AN: Sorry I didn't post yesterday, didn't feel good and had a doctors appointment so kinda took a day off to get better.
--------------------------------------------------
Alex had just finished his study hall period and was joined by Claire. Alex just read a book while Claire studied hard due to her never attending school before. After study hall was over, Alex walked to his third period of the day, potion-making class.
As he walked into the room, he saw two familiar faces, the first being the beautiful silver-haired mentor of his, Freya Crawford, and the second being the equally beautiful pink-haired first princess of the Lycian Empire, Seraphina Waltz.
Alex knew he had just stepped into a bad situation. After all, Seraphina had asked Alex to drop Freya as his mentor and choose her earlier in the day.
"Alex! Sit here!" Freya said after she saw Alex walk into the classroom.
However, he noticed something quickly: Seraphina was giving him an angry stare while sitting at a table across the room.
Alex sighed and sat next to Freya like she asked, which made her eyes gleam with excitement.
She had been wanting to get to know Alex better, and this was a good opportunity to do so.
"Good morning, Freya." Alex said.
"Good morning, Alex, how has your first day gone so far?" Freya asked.
"It's been alright; nothing too crazy." Alex said this while sharpening his pencil.
"So is this a mix of first- and second-year students?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, potion-making classes are mandatory at some point in your first two years, and I didn't take them last year." Freya said.
"Oh, I guess that's why Seraphina is here too." Alex asked.
"Oh, have you met the princess already?" Freya asked Alex in return.
"You could say that." Alex responded.
It was shortly afterwards that the teacher walked in and discussed what they were going to learn today.
"Today we are learning a very simple potion, health potions. These are useful tools in any combat situation. Even simple ones will heal most non-lethal wounds in combat; however, if you have an advanced health potion, you can heal even some of the most dangerous wounds. Now pick a partner and take a table for today's class."
"Hey Alex, do you want to team up?" Freya asked Alex.
"Sur-" Alex tried to say until he was interrupted by an all too familiar face.
"Sorry, but I want to team up with him." Seraphina said with a smile.
"And here we go..." Alex thought to himself.
Freya and Seraphina stared at each other, making the tension in the room very awkward.
"Sorry, Princess, but since I'm his mentor, I should be his partner in class." Freya argued.
"Not for long..." Seraphina commented.
"What?" Freya tried to respond, but the teacher quickly got between the two.
"Well, girls, luckily for both of you, we have an odd number of students in class today, so we can make a group of three with all of you." The teacher said.
"Can't I just work alone?" Alex asked, but he was quickly denied by the teacher.
"No, you must have a partner for today's class." The teacher said.
"Worth a shot." Alex thought to himself.
He knew those two would cause drama, especially with Seraphina wanting him to leave Freya's tutelage and become her student. So he prepared to work together with them.
"Hey Alex, after class, can we talk in private up on the roof? It should be just us there." Seraphina asked him.
"Uh sure." Alex responded.
The three started to make the potions according to the teacher's recipe. Freya was actually quite good at potion brewing and made great progress in a short time, while Seraphina was the exact opposite, with the mess around her desk, the potion that should've been green instead being purple, and how genuinely flustered she was.
Seraphina was no potion master, that's for sure.
"Seraphina, if you don't mind, I can help you out." Alex said willing to help Seraphina. Even if she had been rude so far, she hasn't done anything against Alex, so his feelings about her were pretty neutral.
"Uhm...sure." Seraphina let go of her pride in order to get help; even she could admit she was struggling with this topic.
"Here, you're not measuring correctly with the beakers; that's why you're creating... whatever that is." Alex explained before smelling the purple bottle of mystery she had created.
"Smells fucking horrible, but actually..." Alex thought to himself.
Alex took the purple beaker and added some ingredients to it, slowly turning the purple potion into a pink one.
"How did you do that?" Seraphina asked, seeing him change her botched potion.
"Well, actually, this potion, while not a health potion, actually had the potential to make a very raw mana potion. So I mixed in some other ingredients and created this mana potion; it isn't that strong due to the mix of ingredients but would work in a pinch." Alex explained. He then poured the beaker into a small glass and sealed it off with a cap before handing it to Seraphina. "Here, it's yours."
"I couldn't possibly take that; you made it after all." Seraphina said.
"It's not a problem; honestly, it's damn near useless, but you laid the groundwork for it, so it's yours." Alex explained.
Seraphina took the glass from Alex and said, "If you're willing to give it to me, it would be rude to reject it. Thank you, Alex."
"Really, it's no problem." Alex said.
While this was happening, Freya was watching the two with mixed emotions.
"Why do I feel angry seeing him like this..." Freya thought to herself. "I barely know him; it couldn't be...could it?"
Class would proceed as normal, and the teachers would test everyone's potions. She would go around the room and finally reach Alex and the girls.
"Let's examine your three beakers." the teacher said.
All three presented their pink potions. Freya and Alex helped Seraphina make her potion but didn't do it for her; instead, they taught her how to measure and use the right ingredients, and she did the rest herself.
"Let's see, Freya, yours is phenomenal, an A+ for your personal grade; now Alex, yours is also pretty well made, an A for your personal grade. Now Seraphina..." the teacher said before reaching Seraphina's potion.
The teacher was observing the potion while Seraphina was nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
"Decent color, good smell... I'll give you a B." The teacher said.
Seraphina smiled after hearing that. She was never good at potion making, and the fact she got a B today made her feel ecstatic.
Once class was dismissed, Seraphina thanked both Freya and Alex before leaving to go to the roof, where she wanted to meet Alex, but before Alex followed her, Freya stopped him.
"Alex? Is everything okay with us?" Freya asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't it be?" Alex responded.
"Well, Seraphina said something about me not being your mentor for long, so I was just wondering..." Freya said before being interrupted.
"Don't worry about what she said. You are my mentor, and I hope you will be for a long time." Alex said, looking Freya in the eyes.
Freya's cheeks blushed after hearing that, and she said "Oh...okay. Good!"
With that, Alex and Freya said their farewells before Alex walked up to the roof.
As soon as he opened the door to the roof, he was greeted with a stunning sight.
Pink hair flowed beautifully in the wind as Seraphina was looking at the sights from the roof.
"You said you wanted to talk with me, Princess Seraphina?" Alex asked the girl while enjoying the beautiful sight in front of him.
Seraphina turned to Alex and walked towards him.
Alex didn't know what was happening, as it was as if she were walking with a purpose. Alex waited for what she had to say, and once she took a deep breath, it came out.
"I'M SORRY!"
".....What?"
