Chapter 1 - Darkness

I couldn't see anything but darkness. "What is this?" I mumbled to myself, but I couldn't hear my voice. I tried to move. It was as if I was trapped in concrete. No matter how much I tried, my body wouldn't move. I started to panic. "Did I hit my head?", as soon as I had that thought it was replaced with a different one, "Did I die?". I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. I needed to calm down and think rationally. "What is the last thing I did? Think, come on, think!"

My efforts were in vain. I couldn't even remember my name. I soon felt tired. Something urging me to rest. "Am I falling asleep", I tried to speak but I lost consciousness before I even finished the thought.

I don't know how much time has passed, but I was awake again. Something was different this time. "I could move!" I yelled in excitement. But I couldn't hear my voice. Worse yet it felt like I was drowning. A weird filling, or maybe it is better to call it an instinct came over me. I had a strong urge to try and break out of whatever I was inside of.

As I tried to make a fist for a punch something felt off. "Where are my fingers?", I cried out in shock. I only noticed now but my whole body felt different, as if it didn't belong to me. But I didn't have time to delve into those thoughts. I needed to focus on escaping whatever was holding me.

I tried punching, but it proved useless. I stopped to think before I exhausted all my energy. I needed a better approach. If I couldn't break out punching maybe i should try throwing my whole body at the problem.

I prepared to ram my body with all my strength. "Nothing left but to do it", I said trying to encourage myself. I rushed forward. Moments before impact a thought crossed my mind, "Won't this hurt?". But as I anticipated the pain it never came. Instead after I collided it felt like everything around me was moving. To be more precise it felt like everything was falling over. The movement stopped quickly with a thud. And then I saw it. I wasn't stuck in darkness anymore. Even though there was barely any light it gave me the motivation I needed to keep going.

I threw punches one after another. The hole was slowly getting bigger.

When I finally felt like the hole was big enough for me to fit through I slowly crawled out. At least I tried to, in the end it was closer to a tumble than anything.
