Chapter Six: Satisfied?

Matthew got up very early in the morning and did all his house chores. He went to the workshop as well and did all that was required to be done. He wanted to see Laura as soon as possible as she has been on his mind overnight. Today, he was going to take her on a date, though he didn't have much to do in mind; he promised himself to make her happy.

When he finished at the workshop which was just beside the house, he went inside the house to have his bath and head out to Laura's house. It was still pretty early but he couldn't hold back… he missed her badly.

'Matthew… why are you up so early?' Mark creased his brows as he gulped down the water in his hand. He got up few minutes ago, and saw that all the chores had been done. He knew Matthew had done them… but still why did he wake up so early.

Or could it be that…? Mark grinned internally at the realization.

'Uhm… nothing much. I just felt like it.' He made his way into the kitchen to wash his hands.

'I see…. So are you going out?' Mark asked.

'Yes uncle.' Matt gulped.

'Where are you going by the way?' Mark wanted to tease his nephew a little bit.

'Eh? I…I don't know… wherever my feet takes me.' Matt turned away from his uncle. 'Why is this man questioning me so early in the morning?' Matt thought.

'Hmm perhaps your feet could take you to Laura's house.' Mark chuckled as he saw the young man become tense. 'But don't you think it's a little bit early… everyone needs to sleep you know.' He added as he patted his nephew's shoulder.

'Okay.' Matt mumbled. His uncle sure has a way to always make him flustered.

'Good. I'm going back to sleep.' Mark exited the kitchen.

When Matthew finished in the kitchen, he went into the bathroom and got himself ready. He picked out his favorite clothes and styled his hair. When he was sure that he was ready, he looked at the clock and saw it was remaining a few minutes to seven.

'I'd go by seven… she should be awake by then.' He sank on his bed and waited. 'Why is the time so slow?' He grumbled to himself. Oh! He suddenly remembered.

'Oh goodness me! How could I have forgotten?' He stood up and reached under his bed. After a few struggles, he brought out a wooden container and forced it open. It was his piggy bank.

His uncle had forced him to start saving when he turned eight years old. Of course, the money was a lot.

He intended to spend some on Laura to get her anything she wanted so he took half of the money he had saved up.

Finally, it was time to go.

'Bye uncle. I'd be back by sunset!' Matt yelled as he dashed out of the house and made his way to Laura's. Normally, it would take fifteen minutes to get to Laura's from Matt's house but he made it in ten minutes.

Knock… knock… knock

Matt knocked on Laura's front door after he dressed himself again. After the second set of knocks, the door opened.

'Oh Matthew?' Terra; Laura's mother spoke.

'Good morning ma'am.' Matt bowed slightly.

'Good morning son. What brought you here so early?' She asked.

'Uhm… nothing much. Is Laura in?' He asked, peeking behind her.

'Yes, she is. Come on in.' Terra made way for him. 'By the way Matthew, you look good today.' She added.

'Thanks.' He smiled from ear to ear.

He went inside the house and sat on the couch.

'What would you like to have?' Terra asked.

'Oh thank you ma'am. I'm okay.' Matt declined politely.

'Okay then. Laura is in her room.' Terra said as she walked towards the dining table.

'Oh alright.' Matthew was surprised Terra allowed him go into her daughter's room. Did she know about them? Or maybe not?

'Okay ma'am.' He stood from his seat and walked towards Laura's room.

'Knock before going in Matthew.' Terra spoke and exited.

Knock.. knock.. knock…

'Come in.' He heard Laura's voice from inside and proceeded in.

'Hey.' Matt greeted as soon as he got in. Laura who was organizing her clothes heard the voice. Is Matthew here…? She asked herself and when she turned to look, she was caught off guard.

'Oh my! You startled me.' She breathed.

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.' He smiled.

'What are you doing here? And why are you all dressed up?' Laura asked as she walked towards him.

'No good morning hugs? Or kisses?' He teased.

'Come on stop it. How did you get in?'

'Your mom told me to go in. Does she know about us?' Matt asked

'No she doesn't.' Laura replied.

'Why are you looking at me like that?' Matt asked after a few moments of silence.

'You look so handsome.' Laura replied as she moved closer and brushed his shoulders lightly.

'Thank you.' He smiled. 'You're beautiful too.'

'Oh please!' She blushed.

'I'm serious. You've always looked so beautiful… I'm so lucky.'

'Really?' She blushed hard.

'Yeah. Can I have my morning kiss now?' Matt grinned.

'Oh, was that why you complimented me?' Laura glared teasingly.

'Eh? No not at all. I… ' Matthew's words were cut short by Laura's kiss.

'There…satisfied?' she bit her lips when she drew away.

'Not yet.' Matt grinned and drew her in for another kiss. It lasted longer than the previous and Matt only pulled away to help Laura catch her breath. 'I missed you Laura. I couldn't stop thinking about you.' Matt confessed.

'I missed you too, Matthew.' Laura said and Matthew pulled her in for a hug.

'You still haven't told me why you're here though.' Laura asked when she pulled away.

'Uhm… we're going on a date.' Matt made his way to the little sofa at her bedside.

'A date?' Laura asked wide eyed.

'Yes.' Matthew replied. 'So I need you to go dress up now so we can leave.'

'But…but what are we going to tell my mom?' Laura bit her lip anxiously.

'An excuse? She won't be that strict on us.' Matt shrugged.

'What if she suspects?'

'This is not the first time I'm coming to pick you up from your house, Laura.' Matt reminded.

'But still….' Laura was reluctant.

Matthew walked up to her when he noticed her uneasiness.

'What is it, Laura?' He asked.

'I just don't feel good about this.' She lowered her head. She knew Matt couldn't hold back from seeing her and she couldn't also but something kept telling her not to go. She didn't even have plans to step out of her house that day.

'I see. It's okay if you don't feel like going out with me today, whatever makes you comfortable… I'd do it.' Matt spoke. He wouldn't deny that he felt disappointed and a bit embarrassed. He had woken up early and looked his good just to get here and be turned down.

'I'm sorry Matthew.' Laura was truly apologetic. She knew Matthew loved her so much but… this feeling was just hard to ignore.

It's frustrating and even more annoying that she didn't know why it was happening.

'It's fine.' He bent and kissed her on the forehead. 'I'll see you later.' Matthew spoke and exited the room.

Laura sighed deeply.

'I'd be going now ma.' Matt said to Terra when he saw her in the lobby.

'Oh why? I thought you and Laura were supposed to go somewhere.' Terra asked.

'Yeah, but she said she was not feeling too good. We'd go next time… thanks ma. Bye.' Matt bowed slightly and left the house.

Terra walked into Laura's room.

'Laura? What happened between you and Matthew?' Terra asked her daughter.

'Huh? Nothing happened between us.' Laura panicked.

'Then why did he look so sullen? He's always a happy child.' Terra spoke off handedly and Laura couldn't help but feel her heart hurting. She had hurt him…. badly.

'Mom, did he say anything to you?' She asked.

'No he did not.'
