"Nightfall Academy is nothing like the old school so we must be careful when we get there," Kelvin said to the boys as they got into Derek's car.
Derek is Kelvin's friend, the man who looks like the typical cold-hearted person whereas he is nice inside.
"Understood!" Alex replied while Raphael nodded.
"Kelvin, you should give them a break. You've been repeating that since they woke up in the morning," Derek said to Kelvin.
"I know but I can't help with, not with the right rules and regulations governing that school," Kelvin replied with a tired expression.
"They will be able to take care of themselves and just like you said, Nightfall Academy isn't like your old school. It'll be fun here, especially for him," Derek said and pointed at Alex. "He'll meet crazy students like him, and those crazier than he can ever imagine," he added with a smirk.
Seeing the smirk on his face, Alex could not help but begin to imagine what Nightfall actually looked like. Well, only time could tell.
------------
After driving for four hours straight, they eventually reached the borders of Nightfall Academy. It was a large old school built in the middle of a thick wood, the wood is filled with a tall canopy of trees and according to Derek, it is inhabited by wild beasts. One of the rules of the school stated that no students are allowed to leave the school premises once it's past 9 pm, failure will be strictly punished by the school authorities.
"We are here," Derek announced as the car came to a stop at the front of the tall black gate.
"This place is creepy," Alex muttered.
"Sure," Kelvin agreed with a slight frown on his face. Even Raphael could not hide his unpleasant expression.
"Creepy or not, you guys can't go back," Derek said and they all turned and glanced at him. He was smiling as he came down from the car. "Anyone who enters the borders of Nightfall can not return until you are allowed to," he added.
"What do you mean?" Kelvin asked him, not able to understand a thing he was saying.
"It's nothing. I'm only kidding," Derek said. This was supposed to calm everyone down but it didn't rather, it made them even more uncomfortable. Seeing how they were staring at him, he chuckled. "Okay okay, fine. I'll tell you... Well, like I said, it's difficult to leave the school once you enter unless you are permitted to do so. For example, me. I can go whenever and wherever I want to but I can not quit entirely. That's how it is."
"You didn't tell me any of these things," Kelvin muttered with a look of disappointment. He wasn't upset because of himself but because of Alex and Raphael.
"That's because you didn't ask," Derek replied with a shrug. "Everything about the school is good and it'll help them become stronger than they currently are. Don't think about the negative aspect of the school but the positive ones."
"You—"
"Kelvin, it's alright," Alex said to Kelvin, not allowing him to argue any further. "It's not like we can leave if we decided to so there is no point arguing with him. We can live here just fine, trust me," he said to him.
"But—"
"Trust me... We can do this! But if eventually, we can no longer continue, we'll find a way to escape," Alex insisted.
"Kid, you are right about anything except the part of you escaping. No one has ever successfully escaped before so what makes you think you can?" Derek said to Alex.
"When the time comes, I'll be the first," Alex replied.
"I'll watch and see then," Derek said with a smile and then proceeded to go to the gate. As they walked to the gate, it opened and they went in. It was a long walk from the gate down to the main side of the school, the road was a small lane covered in dry leaves and tall buildings on both sides. It looked creepy coupled with the fact that the whole place was extremely quiet as if there were no living things around. "Don't worry, the place becomes livelier during school periods but unless that, it is awfully quiet like this," Derek suddenly said to them.
They finally got to the main side of the school and displayed before them were countless buildings of different shapes and sizes. Alex looked around to at least see one student but there was no sight of any around.
"That's the Dean's office," Derek told them and then led them to the building.
Alex had expected to see an old man just like the one in the other school but when they walked into the office, he was surprised to see a Man as young as Kelvin sitting there.
"Sir, there are the ones I mentioned to you during our last conversation," Derek said to him with a bow.
"The three of them don't have good records," the young man said and adjusted the glasses he was putting on while gazing at Alex most especially. "Don't you think they'll create a bad name for my school?" He questioned Derek.
"Sir, since when did bad records matter to you—"
"Are you saying that my school itself is —"
"No, not at all, sir," Derek said immediately. He dared not afford to upset the young man with his words. "I'm suggesting you allow them to stay here, these boys are good," he said to him.
Since they got into the office, the young man's eyes never left Alex for once and the latter had noticed it and was not feeling good about it. He felt the man was trying to look into his soul and he didn't like that feeling.
"Did you tell them that they won't be able to leave unless they are permitted to do so?" The young man asked Derek who nodded in reply. "Very well then, you all can leave, I'll get back to you later at noon but before that, drop your names and age," he said to Kelvin and the boys.
The trio did as they were instructed and when they were done, they got ready to leave the office but the young man stopped them.
"You, stay behind, the rest can leave," he said to Alex. Kelvin and Raphael glanced at him but he gestured for them to go ahead.
When everyone had left the room, Alex turned and faced the young man. "What do you need me for?" He asked him.
The young man removed the glasses he was putting on and Alex could see the man's black eyes. Scared, he backed away immediately causing the man to chuckle.
"Why are you scared?" He asked him.
"I'm not scared just taking precautions," Alex replied, trying to hide the fact that he was actually scared of the man's eyes.
"Don't be scared of them," the man said as if he was able to read Alex's thoughts. "These eyes allow me to see things I shouldn't," he added.
"Things like what?" Alex asked him.
"Should I tell you that there are two souls in your body?" The young man asked Alex who got shocked.
