Many would call the Sommers patriarch a dull man and unlike his wife, he didn't have a problem with it. After all, he was uneducated, wasn't terribly fond of books and even his own daughter thought he didn't have any interesting things to talk about.
He may be dull and boorish and he might not be partially bright but he wasn't an idiot so when that evening Ronan Sommers came back from his workshop and was greeted with the sight of his wife smiling charmingly at him he was suspicious.
Aline was in a pale yellow-green dress his mother had sewed for her nearly a decade ago and that always made his hand itch to reach out towards her more than normal (which he was sure his intelligent wife knew), her red silky locks freely tumbled over her shoulders.
Indeed, after nearly three decades of marriage, if he didn't realize something was up he must really be stupid.
He sighed and let Aline usher him to the dining table which was full of his favourites.
He decided to not think about what his beloved wife might want to talk about and just enjoy the delicious food his wife had worked hard to make.
There was many a thing he didn't know and cared to learn but his family, his wife and daughters weren't in that majority.
Considering even Aline was trying to butter him up rather than telling him directly meant it was something even his smart and charming wife wasn't sure how he would react and seeing as Jenna didn't come down for dinner it was about his little daughter.
He really didn't want to know if his little girl had forgiven that scum and was going to marry him as Miranda had done with that other liar.
He really really didn't want to know one moment sooner if his baby daughter too, believes in the lias of another wealthy bastard so he listened to his wife and eat the delicious food as slowly as possible.
"So," well it seems there is no more waiting "You know how Jenna and Logan had broken up," it was the decision Jenna made he was most proud of " somethings happened and now Jenna is pregnant."
"Cough…cough…cough…"
"Easy dear easy, have some water."
He shouldn't have eaten that slowly.
"Cough…Jenna… Jenna is having… cough… a child…cough… cough… with that Fell?"
After the coughing finally stopped I looked at Aline's worried visage.
"Of course not dear, Jenna is pregnant from Mason, not Logan."
"What? When did she start dating the Lockwood boy?" now he was confused. It hadn't been that long since Jenna broke up with logan and the last he knew his daughter was still single.
But looking at his wife's face which showed how reluctant she was to answer, he was sure he didn't want to know that answer too.
There were some things about his children he didn't want any information about.
Jenna hadn't gotten together with the Fell boy again which was a plus, for the other matter "Does she want to keep the baby?"
Aline lightly hummed in confirmation. "The Lockwood boy doesn't believe the child to be his and even if he believed it he probably won't want anything with the child."
He didn't know what to feel about his baby daughter having her own baby out of wedlock but there was a high chance he would end up at the police station for violence should he was to see Mason Lockwood anytime soon.
He wasn't sure exactly how he was feeling right now or how he should react so he returned back to his carpentry shop and worked on some of the commissions.
Working always calmed him and helped detangle his mind and emotions so Ronan Sommers worked at his carpentry shop for three days without returning home or answering his phone. After completing two nearly-finished works he made a small carving and returned home to his crying daughter and an angry wife.
He gave the carved mother and baby figure as a peace offering first "I'm a simple man. I don't have high education like your mother to help you and Miranda nor do I have a big wealth to leave behind like your friends from founders. I never had high ambition so I don't have the power to stop gossip from spreading once your pregnancy becomes known but Jenna-love as your father I will always be behind you with whatever little I can do."
I looked at my daughter, my little daughter, my baby girl, (wasn't just yesterday she was learning to ride her bicycle or coming to me with oh-so-big news to share? Wasn't it just yesterday my pretty tomboy daughter running after street cats to tame them, climbing trees or getting into fights with boys?) who had grown up without waiting for her old father to realise and now was going to become a mother.
"You will always be my little daughter and I will always be here but Jenna-love I'm old and slow so please don't be too disappointed when it takes time for me to catch up to your news. "
"Dady!" Jenna rushed towards him with a choked-up voice.
When he had an armful of his crying daughter Ronan sucked a deep breath trying to control his own tears. (Ah, however much his daughter might gown she still smelled like that first time he hold her in the hospital room).
"You are not so slow dad." hearing his daughter's hoarse voice Ronan's brows rose and his lips twitched. "There is no comment on the old part?"
Jenna looked up at him with a tear-stained face and a mischievous little smile." Well you are a little bit old now aren't you?" then she buried her face back in his arms.
Aline caught his eyes and her mouth silently moved in "Good job!"
