Chereads / What are we? | Mikaela Hyakuya / Chapter 11 - RETROSPECTION

Chapter 11 - RETROSPECTION

"It's alright, he won't hurt you, so try not to be too frightened," he said reassuringly. "I'll be right here!" You nodded, formulating a plan in your mind. Just moments later, Ferid appeared outside Mika's bedroom door.

He looked incredibly thirsty, and for a brief moment, you feared you might not make it out alive. You and Mika both stood up as Ferid entered the room. "Well, well, what do we have here?" the vampire Ferid said with a seductive tone.

"Nothing," you replied, frowning. "What do you want?!" you shouted, your voice rising. In an instant, he grabbed you and pinned you against Mika's closet, his grip so tight that you gasped in pain. "Oh, don't say a word, little one... I know you crave the marks of my fangs on your neck, don't you?" he whispered, his voice low and menacing.

"N-no..." you sobbed, trying to pull away. "Then let Mika take my place... What do you say, Mika-kun?" Ferid taunted. "W-what!? No!" Mika protested, his face filled with concern. "Mika-kun, are you really going to protect her?" Ferid asked, his tone incredulous.

"I-I'm not... protecting her," Mika stammered, beads of sweat forming on his brow. "Good... then bite her now!" Ferid commanded, his voice rising.

Mika stood frozen, torn between his thirst and his reluctance to hurt you again. Just then, Krul entered the room, her expression icy as she surveyed the scene. "Ah, my queen! Please, come in!" Ferid greeted her as she stepped into Mika's room.

What was Mika supposed to do now? He quickly reached for his sword, positioning you safely to his left so that Ferid and Krul couldn't reach you. Your eyes widened in fear as your heart raced. In a swift motion, Mika plunged the sword into Ferid. Surprisingly, Ferid remained partially unharmed, though the pain was evident. Krul rushed to assist Ferid, and as she did, Mika shouted urgently, "RUN!"

The worry in his eyes, the sweat glistening on his brow, and his frantic movements filled you with anxiety and dread. "M-mika..." you whispered, your voice barely audible. "I SAID, RUN, NOW! RUN (Y/N)!" he shouted, his gaze locked onto yours, trembling with urgency. Fear gripped you, and instead of fleeing, you took a hesitant step back. As you lingered in his room, he glanced at you, a faint smile crossing his lips, as if he understood the fate that awaited him.

You bolted from the house, tears streaming down your face as you screamed. Miraculously, you slipped past the imposing vampire soldiers, who were oblivious to your escape on the other side of the house. Mika stood by the window, watching you leave. In that moment, Krul stormed in and slapped him hard across the face. "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!! HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING, MIKA?!" Tepes yelled, her voice filled with anger and disbelief as she confronted him.

Ferid smirked at Krul Tepes and said, "It's alright, my queen. I'll take care of this." You had managed to leave their property entirely. As you passed through the gate, you turned left to run, only to find Ferid laughing as he appeared before you. You thought to yourself, "This can't be happening. H-How?!". "Hey there, little bitchy-chan, you're coming with me now," he said, grabbing your shirt and pulling you closer.

Before long, you found yourself back in their house, on the second floor in Mika's bedroom. Krul stared at you with an intensity that felt almost ghostly, as if she had been waiting to confront you for ages. "What do you want from me?!" you shouted, looking at them in desperation. "We want your BLOOD!" Krul shouted back, her voice echoing with the last word. "Is it really that IMPORTANT to you?!" you cried out, tears beginning to flow. "YES!" Krul responded, her gaze fixed on your every move. "THEN YOU, UGLY VAMPIRES, WILL HAVE MY BLOOD!" you declared, your voice trembling but resolute.

In a flash, Ferid rushed up behind you, tearing off your shirt as he prepared to bite your shoulder.

"Ghh," you sobbed as he sank his teeth into you. Mika stood frozen, unsure of what to do, tears streaming down his face as he watched. Just as he moved to help you, Krul yanked him down, biting him as well. He let out a heart-wrenching sob, "Aghh!" You tried to reach out to him, desperate to assist, but Ferid held your wrist tightly, preventing your escape. "S-stop!" you pleaded through your tears.

After what felt like an eternity, both Ferid and Krul finally released you and Mika. You found yourself barely sitting on the floor, struggling to maintain your composure and not collapse.

Mika's voice trembled as he spoke, tears streaming down his face. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you!" He hung his head low, overwhelmed with guilt. You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself, and reassured him, "It's not your fault." You leaned against the nightstand, eyes closed, feeling the weight of the moment. Despite the distance between you, Mika reached out, closing the gap of five meters, and wrapped his arms around you. His hands were warm yet cold, igniting a flicker of warmth in your heart. You couldn't deny the feelings stirring within you, but the pain of losing your family to him still lingered. "I'm really sorry... (Y/N)," he murmured again, his voice filled with regret. "Let's... let's run away together," he suggested, his breath brushing against your cheek. "O... okay," you replied, resigning yourself to the reality of being with a vampire.

As the clock struck 10 PM, you both drifted off to sleep. Mika stirred around 1 AM, gently moving you to his bed, watching you as you slept peacefully, like an angel.

He lay beside you, his mind racing with plans.

At 6 AM, the sun's rays streamed through the window, warming Mika's face. He opened his eyes to find you still asleep, completely still. Downstairs, Ferid and Krul were busy, while Mika prepared for the day ahead and thought about his plans. When he accidentally slammed his bedroom door, the noise jolted you awake, your body craving food and water. He quickly offered you his glass of water and a plate of food that some vampire soldiers had brought him. "No, it's fine. You should eat!" you protested, still half-asleep. "No, really! Here, eat," he insisted, his voice soft and a smile lighting up his face. "Thank you," you said, managing a small smile. "You're welcome," he replied, warmth radiating from him.

After a while, he finally shared his plan with you. It was quite a challenging one. "Alright, I've come up with a strategy! Please let me know if you have any thoughts or if you disagree so we can improve it together. Here's what I'm thinking: Krul, Ferid, and most of the soldiers will be heading to their other palace soon. Once they leave, we can take on the remaining soldiers!" He spoke with a lot of confidence. "Um..."

"What's wrong?!" He asked, puzzled by your hesitation.

"I just don't think I can take on the vampires..." you replied, feeling disheartened.

"No, no, no! You can do this! I believe in you! If you managed to escape from me, you can definitely get away from those vampires. Trust me!" He reassured you, showing his faith in your abilities. "When are we doing this?" you inquired.

"Tonight!" he exclaimed, a bit too loudly.

"TONIGHT!?" you echoed, taken aback.

"Yes, tonight... Trust me, you'll be able to handle them! I'll have your back, and you'll have mine, alright? :)"

He shared some valuable tips and tricks for fighting effectively. You felt prepared, and as the clock struck 9 PM, Krul leaped into his room. Just before she entered, Mika mentioned that he was certain either Krul or Ferid would check on the two of you, so he needed to demonstrate his loyalty to them. It was clear to you that he would need to drink your blood, and you agreed to his plan.

He first pressed you against the wall by the window, where he could keep an eye on everything happening outside. To make his point clear, he removed your shirt, explaining that vampires typically didn't seek romantic relationships, so he wasn't "interested in your body." Then, he warned you in a menacing tone that if you tried to move, he would harm you, claiming he knew your true identity. Deep down, he didn't mean any of it; it was all an act to make it believable. Suddenly, he gripped your thigh and bit down hard, causing you to scream. You pleaded, "Mika... please stop!" but your words fell on deaf ears.

At that moment, Krul peeked through the door, watching Mika with a satisfied smile as he played his part. Despite knowing it was all a performance for the vampires, the pain was real, as he fully embraced his role. You clung to his shoulders, trembling, trying to steady yourself against the overwhelming sensation of blood loss. Tears streamed down your face as you gasped for breath, the bite was excruciating. You could feel his fangs drawing your blood, savoring it. When Krul, Barthory, and a few soldiers left for their car to head to another "palace," Mika abruptly stopped, his expression shifting to one of concern. He quickly apologized, his voice filled with urgency, "I'm so sorry! I didn't realize she would be watching us for so long." You managed a smile, reassuring him, "It's okay... it was part of the plan anyway :)"

You felt a rush of joy at the thought of finally stepping outside after being cooped up for two weeks. "Hey, I noticed you're in my clothes. Maybe it would be more comfortable for you to change into your own?" he suggested, a hint of concern in his voice. "I mean, it's fine if you wear mine, but I thought it might be better for you, especially since other vampires might see you..."

"Of course! I'll change," you replied, heading to the bathroom to switch into your own clothes—or rather, his.

After a little while, you both prepared to face the soldiers, or at least you were almost ready.

"Mika, I don't think I can do this!"

"Why not?!" he asked, looking puzzled.

"I'm just... scared! What if they find out we're trying to escape? What will they do to us?!" you exclaimed, your voice rising with panic.

"Shh! Keep your voice down. They won't harm you; they'll come after me instead. But don't worry, we've got this. Just stick to the plan: our moves, the guns, the classic sword—it's you and me, alright?"

"Okay, I guess," you replied, your fear evident as you felt your hands tremble.

Sweat began to bead on your forehead. The night was dark, illuminated only by the moon and stars as you and Mika quietly made your way down the stairs. He wasn't any braver than you, but he was doing his best to keep you calm.
