Majority of people think about the afterlife atleast once in their entire life. Some stick with that belief and others dismiss it. People commit misconduct, others do good deeds.
What really happens to these people who do things without much consequence? Do they pass on without punishment or is there an explanation deeper for it?
Sheol, a place of rebirth, a time after death. Once a person dies they pass on to Sheol to make mends of their misbehaviors in their previous life. However, they don't carry on the memories from their past. These souls carry on a new name, a new life as a part of the Sidera.
However, being part of Sidera is not as formal and grand as it sounds. Instead, they developed their own culture and tradition. Bringing life to the former barren lands of Sheol.
The people of Sidera are given the responsibility to make mends of the things they did in their past life in order to pass on to the next one.
"O' great creator of Sheol, take me, thine servant, to you at once-" Elpis sighed and reached for the sky above her "-What is the point in all this?" her eyes drooped as she lay on the ground.
The brightness of the sun ran through her wooden mask, disturbing the girl. Elpis was left to her own thoughts under the exposure of the sun. After a while it felt she was not so warm anymore; as if something was giving her shade from the light.
She set aside her arm from her eyes checking to see what this thing was. Not so surprised, she gazed at the figure above her. Another girl leaning towards Elpis with her arms crossed behind her back. The stranger's eyes gave Elpis a shiver down her spine.
"How did you get here?" Elpis asked the stranger.
"This is the entrance to the cave ahead. Is it not?" the strange girl replied in a curious tone- "What are you doing here?"
Elpis paused for a moment, her thoughts rearranging themselves. She was in the first area, Isle of Dawn. It seems that short nap jumbled her thoughts. "Resting." Elpis replied.
The girl's cape drooped from her back, flowing with the wind. She jolted her head to her side taking notice of the things around her. She turned to look at the other person in the ground. How strange.
"Okay- it seems I have to go ahead now. Enjoy your nap, stranger!" The strange girl waved her hand back. Her figure disappeared into the entrance of the cave right ahead.
Elpis gave no reply as she watched the girl enter the cave. She'll probably never see her again anyway. She turned her head back and continued napping. The sun was still glaring at her but she paid no attention.
The days went by like minutes and Elpis hadn't moved a budge. With no goal in mind, she got bored. After a mysteriously long time, she finally got up. She headed towards the cave like the girl before her did.
She jumped down from the small height at the other end of the cave. She went towards the huge temple above the clouds. After walking a medium-lengthed distance, Elpis started to notice a familiar figure ahead.
That stranger appeared to be making slow progress. At this time a newly fallen star would've reached the temple above the clouds.
It was no hard task to catch up with the stranger. Elpis stayed silent while she walked behind the girl. "Are you lost?" she brought up the topic.
The girl infront jerked up surprised by the sudden sound. "Hagh! You scared me," she sighed in relief seeing it was just the girl from before. "And no I am *not* lost."
Elpis quietly nodded and continued to follow the girl. She didn't mind if they were going in circles. After all, she had nothing to do anyway.
"Why are you following me like that?" the girl turned her head back again, facing Elpis.
"You looked lost and even after saying you aren't, we're still going in circles." Elpis stared at the flustered expression on the stranger's face. "No way you're just to embarrassed to admit it." she said in a teasing manner.
One couldn't have noticed the slight change of tone in Elpis's voice but the strange girl surely did. "No. I'm not lost-" she pointed to the ruins ahead-"Just a bit slow."
"What's your name?" Elpis said with no shame of changing the topic.
"Raqia. Why'd you ask?" the girl, who now introduced herself as Raqia, questioned.
Elpis looked at Raqia with a neutrally dumbfounded look. The silence finally popped. "Mine is Elpis. Don't you think it's normal for people to ask their associate's name?"
Raqia seemingly changed her expression as she realized what she had just said a moment ago. "Yes- totally. Are you also heading for the temple up there?" she pointed.
''Well that's the only way out of here." Elpis gave out a bland reply. "You should stopover right there." she indicated a small shrine by the staircase.
"What's that for?" Raqia asked. Subconsciously following Elpis's advice.
"I'll show you since you seem like you have no hope here." Elpis said. She went ahead of Raqia suggesting to follow her instead.
"That's unnecessarily rude." Raqia mumbled. Despite her reluctance, it was obvious Elpis knew more so naturally she followed.
Passing by a small cave, both of them arrived at the small shrine. It was a slim tomb with a few candles around it. Elpis knelt down and pulled out a small flame out of existence. She lit each candle by the tomb carefully. As each flame passed on from each candle to the other, the outline of the tomb seemed to have lit a neon blue.
"Wait. how did you do that?" Raqia asked Elpis about the flame summoning thing. The way Elpis handled the candles seemed to give out a bit importance so Raqia asked about that too.
"You just condense it out of your will." Elpis replied. She waved her hand down telling Raqia to kneel by the tomb. She clasped her hands and the other copied.
"That doesn't make any sense-"
"Sh." Elpis covered Raqia's mouth.
Suddenly, particles of blue light emerged from the tomb flowing upward. The blue light formed scenes one after another. It specifically showed about a man with his family. Only after the all the scenes were showed did the particles fall on the ground and fade away.
"These tombs are from the people who once lived here before us. I advice you pay your respects to the dead." Elpis unclasped her hands. "After lighting these candles, a memory of their life appears before you. While this happens you should pay attention." she pointed to Raqia's core. "Otherwise, you won't receive their blessings of safety and guidance."
"Well you *could've* explained that before you lit the candles." Raqia retorted. She stole a glance at Elpis.
"Why are you suddenly helping me?" She asked.
Elpis stood up and said, "It's customary to help the new ones."
After witnessing the spirit's memories, they both departed up to the staircase leading to the temple. A golden light lay there, shining in all its brilliance.
"Do you see this?" Raqia pointed.
"No. Only you can see it." staring at the large gap that spanned between the stairs and temple, Elpis replied.
Open space divided the temple in the skys and the stairs on the ground from eachother. The temple stood on a seemingly floating island, leaving a dent between the clouds.
"Do you know how to fly?" after a good thought, Elpis asked Raqia if she knew. Of course, Raqia by no means, did not know how to fly. This made Elpis sigh in dumbfounding way.
All they had to do now to get to the next area was to teach Raqia how to fly.
