"Mej, I'm sorry" Mathéo whispered as they sat awaiting their impending doom.
It would only take a few minutes for the enforcers to get to them. By that time, it wouldn't matter anymore if they struggle or not. This building only had one entrance or exit. They're basically caged in.
It was amazing that he had been able to resist and keep them both safe these past two weeks. He was at his wits end and didn't have enough energy to start thinking of a new escape plan.
The Enforcers early arrival had destroyed his escape plans and even the backup plans that he had put in place. He really had nothin up his sleeve anymore.
"it's better to just accept the inevitable....." Mathéo started but stopped and looked at Meijia's terrified face. Even if not for himself but for her he had to make sure that she got out safely. Maybe that would offset the kindness her father showed him by a little. Yes he had to make sure that she survived somehow, but how?.
Now with a new goal in mind, Mathéo squeezed out whatever energy he had left to observe around him and think up a plan last minute. Slowly a plan began to formulate in his mind. He ran through the plan one last time and and got to action immediately.
With no time to waste, he moved to where Meijia was crouched and pulled her up. Looking around the room once again he moved her towards the other end of the room where the air vents are located. Hopefully, this plan should buy them a few minutes at least to escape.
'First things first...' He exhaled after making sure that she would be safe and shielde her from any impact. Turning back towards the door, he sprinted around the room picking up anything he deemed capable of inflicting enough pain on an adult. Piling them up above the front door, he secured them with a stick and wire. While doing that, something caught his eye.
On an inconspicuous shelf in the room sat two containers with the words 'POTASSIUM' and 'MAGNESIUM' written boldly on them. Immediately another devilish idea came up in his mind. Being born in a family of military officers, the idea of flash bangs was not a foreign concept to Mathéo. He'd played with them a lot to not know how to make one.
Quickly working on his make shift flash bang, Mathéo did a mental calculation of how much time he had left.
"This should be enough..." he muttered after making his third flash bang. He was not able to celebrate his work because of the loud thumping comimg from the hallway, reminding him that he is very close to losing his life.
With no time to waste he attached two flash bangs to wires and further connected them to the door. Finally feeling prepared, he backed away and positioned himself to the side the door would open to.
Seconds felt like years crawling by as he waited for the soldiers to come in. It was the moment of truth.
'Click'
The door slid open and two enforcers came into the room, slowly. Thankfully they weren't wearing any googles. So without a moment to waste he uncorked and threw his roughly made flash bang at them while turning away to protect himself from the coming brightness. The two enforcers, unprepared and unsuspecting looked down when they heard a gentle thud beside their feet.
Big mistake...
'Bang '
Even with the greatest reflexes it would have been impossible for a human to turn quickly before it exploded. Even Mathéo was not quick enough to fully protect himself.
"Ahhh. Fuck..."
"Shit... my eyes..."
The two enforcer dropped their guns and and clasped their eyes seemingly trying to clear off the stìnging sensation they were feeling.
'Chance' Mathéo thought and sprang into action. In one swift motion he'd jumped from behind the door and kneeled the first soldier in the temple, knocking him out cold. Just when he thought to celebrate that feat, the wind was knocked out of him. He'd completely forgot that they were two soldiers.
The other enforcer though not fully out of his situation was able to deliver a big punch to Mathéo's stomach, lifting him a few inches in the air. Mathéo dropped on the floor gasping for air while the man tried to clear his eyes while reaching for the intercom attached to his waist.
"This is Omega 4, male suspect have been apprehended and will soon be brought in. No sign of female suspect, please advice on next course of action over." He immediately brought it to his mouth and reported after depressing a button by the side.
-buzz- 'keep searching. She must be close. Make sure the boy is detained' -buzz-
"Roge...ough "
Clatter
The intercom fell from his hands as he buckled under pain. Mathéo had somehow gotten back up, picked a metal tube and whacked him hard across the face. While this had successfully stunned his opponent, his swing had been a little too forceful. As a result they both fell to the floor. Mathéo was the first to get back up. Rushing up to the enforcer with the metal tube in his hands, he kept hitting the enforcer till he was unable to stand back up again. At that moment relief and exhaustion washed over him as he fell on his butt. He breathed in slowly and exhaled, in an attempt to regulate his furiously pounding heart. After a few seconds at best he looked around and noticed the guns both enforcers brought laying a few meters away from the door. Somehow during their short fight they had kicked both guns away. He got up groaning from pain. With slow and unsteady steps he walked to where both enforcers had dropped their weapons, and picked them up.
With these two bad boy's he was sure they could get out of this building alive. Any further from that he had no plan or tricks to rely on. But first things first. They had to leave the building. Alive.
Mathéo went to where he had hidden Meijia and helped her out in preparation for their exit when he suddenly realised something. The intercom. It had fallen from the enforcer's hands while he was speaking. Although that was not enough to cause concern, he was smart enough to know that whoever this soldier was speaking to did not hear him finish. Putting two and two togethrr was not hard. They no longer had time to a slow exit. They had to be as quick as possible if they want to get out of this situation.
Getting out quick was easy, if he was alone. He had Meijia to look after too and he wasn't sure she could follow his speed if he decided to go fast.
"Well shit..." he muttered. He could feel a migraine coming. This wasn't the time to be out of it. He needed her to get herself together.
"Mej?" He called tentatively as he turned to face her. "Mej look at me" he demanded after he recieved no reply from her. This must have shaken her awake because she looked up to meet his gaze. "I know how you feel about everything that's happening right now... trust me i do... believe me when i say i want to get revenge for what happened to my family." He paused to let what he said sink and took two steps forward to stand right in front of her. "I know you want that too deep down...But the bitter truth is i can't... we can't. Hell as it stands we can't even protect ourselves well enough. I want to leave this place Mej. I really do. But i can't do this without you. So please get your act together and let's live so we can have our revenge. Please" he pleaded while sweeping a lock of hair from her face.
Revenge
The word was the last thing Meijia needed to bring her to reality. Her hollowed out eyes instantly came to life with a vigor that Mathéo had never seen before in her. He handed her one of the guns he picked up and was internally patting himself for the times he spent teaching her how to use a weapon.
After looting the enforcers from all their ammo, they both stepped out of the small storeroom into an uncertain future. Looking at the suddenly serious Meijia, Mathéo felt for the first time that maybe, just maybe, no matter how crazy it sounded.
Revenge was possible.
It might just be possible.
