Chapter 6 - Anger

Siti replied with repeated nods where she was well aware that if other people saw her while eavesdropping, they would end up being fired. Moreover, she also realized that what she heard just now was bad news. Feeling that there was no need anymore, Wati finally left Siti, while Imam was still there and looked at her intently. This was realized by Siti who was still wearing a sorry face followed by Imam's voice finally being heard.

"Siti ... Siti ... I told you not to interfere in the employer's affairs, but you are still stubborn. Mr. Yosef doesn't like it when people interfere or spread his family's affairs. You keep looking for cases and luckily Wati sees you. If it's someone else, you must be finished because you already know about this family matter!" Imam said in a long sentence which made Siti's eyes widen as she replied.

"So you also know the problem that's happening right now? I was so shocked when I heard that. It's all canceled because the future son-in-law turns out to be infertile."

"Enough, Siti! Shut your mouth or I'll stuff it with a kitchen mat if you keep on babbling!" With a quick movement, Imam covered Siti's mouth, which continued to chatter, where her eyes glanced around and hoped that no one would hear. Imam felt annoyed and immediately let go of the restraints.

"Hurry up and make some coffee and deliver it to the front post! One more time I warn you to be quiet or we will watch you get fired without any defense!"

Siti was silent and a little tense because she forgot to control her mouth which had chattered just now. She smacked her mouth and rushed to comply with what he asked. In silence, Siti promised to fix everything so she would not be fired and obey what Wati and Imam said for her good.

While in the room finally, Yosef calmed down a bit after letting out his emotions and telling what he had done at Reynold's house. Maria's right hand was stroking Yosef's back just trying to calm himself, who was burning with emotion due to the disappointment he felt. The two of them sat side by side on the edge of the bed with chaotic thoughts after learning that their future son-in-law was declared infertile by the doctor. This truth shocked and devastated Yosef and Maria because they did not expect that a healthy man like Frans would not be able to bear children.

They could not hide their disappointment and instead felt cheated because the truth had been tightly closed between Frans and Paola. Unfortunately, the plan was uncovered also a week before the wedding was held. This became the reason for Yosef's anger because he felt that he had been tricked by Frans, who was known to have deliberately covered up the truth and forced Paola to accept that he was considered disabled. As a parent, Yosef did not accept that his daughter was treated like that.

"So, what should we do now, Pa?" Maria's voice sounded low and looked intently at Yosef who was still catching his breath because he was still chasing after his emotions.

"Of course bear the shame because the wedding was canceled!" said Yosef curtly and turned to Mary who was on the left. The decision must be made and it is impossible to continue the marriage because the desired offspring is only a dream if you have a son-in-law like Frans. The embarrassment is inevitable and you have to explain to their family the reasons for the cancellation.

"Is it wrong for us to be embarrassed like this, Pa? The invitations have already been sent out and the event has been canceled. It must be the subject of gossip!" Maria had imagined that she would be ridiculed by her surroundings.

What Mary said was of course justified by Yosef at this time because he had already thought about the further impact. Two hands clenched as a result of being ignited by emotion when remembering what Frans has done. Of course, what happened at this time was considered Frans' fault and made Yosef hate him very much.

"It's all because of Frans. If he doesn't cover up the truth, nothing will happen. We can't possibly distribute the invitations and there's no need to be embarrassed. It's unlucky!" That was the complaint that came out of Yosef's mouth while massaging his temples at this time because of a sudden headache. Seeing him like that, Maria felt anxious because an exploding emotion could endanger Yosef's health. She quickly drew closer to him and spoke.

"All right, now you rest first. Calm down and I will go downstairs first to make some tea!" said Maria in the softest voice possible and tried to calm Yosef down.

Full of patience she helped Yosef to lie down on the bed and did not forget to cover him up to his waist. After that, she decided to leave the room to make a glass of tea. However, she was surprised when the door opened and found someone standing.

"What are you doing here?"

The figure of a woman standing in front of the door didn't show any surprise after Maria appeared suddenly and asked her something. The woman was Wati, who deliberately stood in front of the door where previously Siti was eavesdropping. Wati looked so calm, even though she found a look of disapproval from Maria because she was curious about what was being done in front of her bedroom door. Moreover, Maria was well aware that just now she was talking about serious matters about her family and did not expect such a big disgrace to hurt them.

"Sorry if I'm being presumptuous, Mrs. I stood there on purpose because earlier I found Siti eavesdropping on what Mr and Mrs were talking about inside." The acknowledgment was given by Wati and immediately made Maria's eyes widen as if she wanted to fall off. She even stepped foot to look at the first floor which leads to the kitchen because at this moment Siti must be there. Maria remembered perfectly well that she had closed the door, but was immediately startled because there was another possibility if Yosef had not been in a meeting when he entered with the emotions that had been spilled earlier.

"Are you serious, Wati?" The reply that came out of Maria's mouth seemed to confirm that what she said was the truth.

"That's right, Ma'am. That's why I immediately took Siti to the kitchen and threatened her that she would be fired if she did the same thing. It seems she had heard what you were talking about earlier." This explanation was heard very carefully by Maria, who was suddenly irritated because no one should have heard this conversation except those who wanted to. As for Maria, of course, she knew very well about Siti's nature, who often wanted to know other people's affairs, including the matters of her employer.

"My God, how could she have eavesdropped on our conversation? Yosef must not have closed the door!" said Maria feeling annoyed with Siti's actions, followed by a rough sigh and continuing the previous sentence. Maria's expression suddenly became lethargic when she remembered what her family was going through and this made Wati feel curious.

"What's wrong, Mom? Why are you suddenly sad?" asked Wati just to be brave usually Maria did not hesitate to share stories, although so far she tended to talk about fun things. Maria slowly raised her head and looked at Wati who looked both curious and confused.

"So you don't know what we were talking about in there?" Only a shake was given by Wati. This head movement made Maria understand that Wati had not heard what they were talking about a few moments ago. Slowly Maria looked at the closed door where Yosef's voice could no longer be heard, a sign that he was asleep.

"We had to cancel Paola's wedding!"
