Chapter 16 - Return To Obsidia

At 9 am, Zach returned to the 7 Rose street area where the inn he rented was located. Entered the inn with various thoughts remaining.

Inside, Leonard was sitting relaxed on the long couch drinking black coffee slowly. In the direction of the kitchen, Emma just appeared carrying a new glass.

"You're home already? is your work done?" Emma asked casually as she drained the black coffee she had actually taken for herself and gave it to Zach.

Zach sat on the sofa right in front of Leonard while taking off his black round hat. He sighed, leaned back and said in a relaxed tone, "I guess so"

...

Zach rested for two hours. and at 11am, start getting ready to head to Dandelion Street, the city's biggest entertainment venue, Amethyst. Just alone with Emma, of course.

Due to some reasons, Leonard and Diana had to return to the city of Obsidia early due to Violet not being well. Seeing that there was no longer any danger in the city of Obsidia, Zach didn't forbid them and let them return.

20 minutes away using the Carriage, Dandelion Street looks very crowded. The street lights that shine with different colors even during the day show how different this area is.

Tall buildings line the main street. There are lots of interesting shops and rides. Until nightfall, Zach and Emma spent their time walking around, occasionally stopping to buy snacks, taking thrilling rides and playing the available games.

When darkness falls, colorful twinkling lights adorn the street view. Having had enough fun and remembering that the next morning they would return to the town of Obsidia, Zach and Emma decided to head back.

On a dark day, boarding the Carriage ridden by the hired man, they arrived at 7 Rose Street. After paying a few bronze coins, they entered the inn with tired and happy faces.

...

On a sunny morning, Zach with a round black top hat walked casually while opening the door with his left hand. In his right hand was a large black suitcase which he was dragging.

Emma walked behind before exiting the inn first. The morning sun was shining on them, making Zach have to squint in the glare. "It's the morning sun, how come it's this hot..." Zach couldn't help and complained instead.

Emma didn't seem too bothered by that, as the wide hat she wore blocked the sun from shining into her eyes.

Less than 5 minutes of waiting, Carriage ridden by Billy was already in front of the inn. "I'm sorry for the delay madam and Mr Alfred" Billy lowered his hat and looked down slowly as he opened the Carriage door carefully.

"It's okay Mr. Frank" Emma smiled cheerfully and got on top of the Carriage.

It took them five hours to finally see the sturdy city gates of Obsidia.

It looked extremely strong, even though it was almost ten meters tall but there was no sign of aging or about to collapse. So sturdy!

They entered the gate and were greeted by the gatekeeper who was of course the gatekeeper from Amethyst and Emerald City. Other people might not find much of a difference, but Zach who is the Gate Keeper of this city knows exactly that subtle difference.

In the middle of the day, they reached the House which lowered its guard due to the familiarity. A house with a romantic feel and an interior made almost entirely of solid wood.

"Thank you Mr. Frank" Zach and Emma thanked Billy, even though basically they could be said to be the same as superiors and subordinates, Emma still showed politeness as a member of a noble family.

After arriving home, Zach didn't immediately rest, instead he decided to go to the Gate Keeper's Office to see what was going on there.

Three-level building with thick dark blue nuances. It had a heavy but ancient iron door. Inside you can see a winding staircase leading to the upper floor.

From the outside it looks normal, Zach who is walking slowly without bringing a special jacket doesn't stop until one of the Gate Keepers stops his steps. It was someone Zach didn't recognize.

It was clearly between Emerald City's Gate Keeper or Amethyst who was the substitute. Zach took out his identification card as Obsidia's Gate Keeper.

The eyes of the Gate keepers who saw them immediately fell when they found out that Zach was one of the city's Gate Keepers. Of course they let Zach in.

Inside, it was quiet even though there were many Gate Keepers. "Maybe that's a normal reaction. They must be a combination of the Gate Keepers of Emerald and Amethyst cities, not knowing each other is normal" Zach muttered to himself while climbing the stairs to the second floor.

Knock on the room door Dellon slowly. "Come in" Dellon's voice is a bit small when heard from outside.

Dellon returns to the city of Obsidia after the conversation and some explanations he gave Zach. It's perfectly normal to see him go right back to work, even if it's on the verge of horror.

Zach entered and closed the door silently. Sit in front of Dellon and lower his top hat.

"Captain, I'll be back to work tomorrow morning. Well, I'd like my Shift to be changed to the morning"

"You know, I'm married. Night shifts are no longer acceptable..." Zach said slowly and remembered the time when he had fun with night shifts with his three colleagues.

Dellon understands that, knows what's important now. Although he was quite surprised to realize that Zach's reaction was not what he expected. He had even thought that Zach would stop being a Gate Keeper. Especially considering that he is already the son-in-law of a merchant with a big name.

"Okay, I'll talk to the others" Dellon accepted Zach's request.

"But, are you sure you start work tomorrow?"

Zach nodded slightly.

"And, captain. I wonder if there is a way for me to talk to the high priest of the Wisdom Light Church?" Zach asked reluctantly.

Dellon's forehead wrinkled when he heard Zach's question, "High priest?..." Dellon thought for a moment.

He felt he understood what Zach would do. Looking for clarity, but that would be difficult considering he himself didn't have the chance to talk to the high priest.

"You can go to the church, but that's if you're lucky. The High Priest is rarely seen. Or you can make a formal request directly to meet the High Priest" Dellon gave a slight answer.

....

On Milton Street to be exact at the Franciss residence.

A large house with a simple and old-fashioned feel. From the outside, it was hard to notice that the owner was a wealthy merchant.

Leonard sat relaxed in his wooden chair, staring straight at a piece of paper with neat handwriting and a yellow envelope beside him.

"Gerard seems to have abandoned his plans to return home. He said that there is a slight problem with the condition of Vandash city" Leonard said with a sigh.

Gerard, Emma's younger brother and the only son of the Franciss family. He is currently working on a business expansion in the city of Vandash. He is two years younger than Emma, but has great skills as a businessman.
