Chapter 34 - Shattered

The chatter continued into the afternoon. Occasionally it will take care of issues regarding people entering and exiting the gate. Sometimes taking turns to play chess.

Because time is running fast, Zach and his friends realize three Gate Keepers are heading to the gate. They are the Gate Keepers currently on duty.

That also means, Zach's Shift is over.

Ramius tidied up the chessboard while wearing his black coat. So did Santos, who eagerly drank his last cup of coffee before jumping out of the post.

"Mr Clourfuss how about we have a drink first" Santos offered.

Hearing that, Ramius also gave a small nod. Zach held his chin for a few seconds before replying "I don't think I can today. I have to get my firearms license in the office"

Without a license, someone not even a Gatekeeper is allowed to carry a firearm. This is the reason on his first day at work he did not carry a firearm.

Santos was enlightened as he widened his smile again, "Okay, tomorrow then!"

Zach nodded in agreement.

...

When the sun was level with Zach's straight gaze, he arrived at the Gatekeeper's office. The reason it doesn't tackle the licensing issue in the first place is because it takes time for it to be issued.

With Allen's help, Zach gets his license and even gets a new revolver. Zach was no longer surprised by this and instead felt it was natural.

After taking care of everything, he walked back to his house. Passed several turns until arriving at Green Grass Street. It was the complex he lived in.

Zach knocked softly on his door before slowly opening it. As usual, Ilya would swiftly pick him up and tidy up the leather coat he was wearing and his round hat.

At this time, with a smile on his face, Ilya said quietly, "Mr Clourfuss, Previously you told me to act like a normal wife"

Hearing that, Zach slightly recalled the reasonless actions of the previous day and couldn't help but smile.

Then, Ilya continued. "I was taught by my parents to treat my husband as well as possible. This is not something I can give up. I've thought about it, it will be more difficult considering this marriage is not based on love"

"I still have flaws, but I will try to cover all of that. Therefore, my answer is that I can't change my habits. That's how I become a wife..." Ilya said it with great consideration. The turmoil in her heart was gone, and relief swept over her. It was as if everything in her mind had been taken out.

Zach closed his eyes for a moment, then when he opened them he raised the corners of his lips. "I'm sorry. I seem to have gone too far. You can continue on your way. Thank you for letting me know".

Zach stepped forward as he suddenly stopped "Oh, and one thing. In front of strangers... don't call me by my last name. That would sound weird, you have the same last name too"

Ilya nodded, the look of relief on his face unchanged. "yes"

...

After dinner, Zach sat in the living room. Takes out the new revolver he received from the team captain.

Comparing it to the revolver he had brought from the city of Obsidia. There is only one difference, it is the number of bullets in one cylinder. The new revolver only has 5 bullet slots while the old revolver has 6 slots.

"It's definitely better. And it's also more comfortable. It's not that big but it's a bit heavier. And besides that, this model is more comfortable to use" Zach said to himself as he raised his old revolver.

Of course this comparison is not important, considering that in the end Zach can bring both of them.

After being served sweet tea by Ilya. Zach carefully took a sip of his tea before feeling the warmth creep across his expression.

At this time, strange vibrations began to be felt clearly as the tea in the translucent glass slowly rippled until the contents dripped.

"Earthquake?" Zach frowned as he continued to watch without doing anything.

It only lasted for five seconds before it finally stopped. "It's not a small tremor. An earthquake in the summer... I haven't felt that in a long time" Zach was frank.

Even in Obsidia, earthquakes do occur frequently, but summer is the time when an earthquake cannot be felt even if it occurs. The cause is still unsolved, but the theory has been expressed by several different scientists.

But this time the earthquake was clearly felt. "Well it's strong enough. I'm sure it's strong enough to ignore the season difference" Ilya added.

After a while, it was quickly forgotten.

"Mr Clourfuss, tomorrow night there will be a gathering of Clan Boreas members at 28 Lanius Street" Ilya said to Zach.

Zach frowned "Tomorrow night?"

This was something Zach and the Clan heads agreed on. An encounter like this usually only happened when there was something to do with shadow creatures.

But considering that the Astral that had appeared in Vandash City had been sealed, Zach couldn't help asking to confirm the situation.

"Yes, Mr Vanders came in at noon to tell me"

"Looks like some Clan members found a clue regarding the shadow creatures"

"...Could it just be a small clue... no one knows if I managed to seal the astral, does that hint refer to the astral I sealed?" Question after question arose in his mind.

"The meeting will also be attended by several guardians from the orthodox faction" Ilya continued.

Zach nearly coughed at this information. "It's obvious that the Clan head said I shouldn't stand out. And that the orthodox faction doesn't really like the Clourfuss family."

"I now have something that only the Clourfuss have... Well I'm taking this name as a last name after all. Sooner or later they'll find out I'm related to the Clourfuss Family from the Dark Ages"

"Then what's the essence of saying that I shouldn't stand out?" Zach didn't show his annoyed face as he nodded twice.

Zach actually quite understood why there were other Guardians joining the meeting. Zach had absolutely no Astral refinement experience. At least that's what they know.

"And only the Guardians are capable of defeating Astral. Burying everything on a beginner sure isn't the right choice, I'm sure that's the reason why they invited the Guardians of the Orthodox Faction."

"Besides that, I'm quite curious what kind of Guardian is. Until now I have never met or even seen a Guardian figure"

A moment of silence became quite clear. There is no further conversation because there is no topic that needs to be raised.

For nearly ten minutes there was silence. Just then, Zach sighed after finishing his sweet tea. Look at the wall clock which shows almost 9 pm.

After that they changed into home sleeping clothes and immediately fell asleep.

...

At Light Of Wisdom Church Obsidia, Jack Miller and three other high priests. Was witnessing a sinister anomaly.

Jack Miller's gaze was fixed on the giant statue in the center of the hall. It was a statue in the shape of an old man with a long beard and a conical hat. Above his palm was an orb that resembled the sun, a simple outfit that only showed his left back and both palms.

The orb in his palm showed a mysterious reflection of light, but it slowly cracked and shattered in the blink of an eye. The ball that was showing warmth and serenity shattered and the shards of crystal fell to the floor.

It was a statue depicting the Sun God that the majority of Stonefield's population worshiped!
