Chapter 18 - Insanity?

Emma, who was reading her book excitedly, was suddenly startled by a knock on the door. She stood up and took off her square glasses rushing forward.

From the frosted glass of the door, you can see the silhouettes of three men standing at the door. Emma didn't delay and opened the door curiously.

Outside, a figure dressed in gray and black eyes and slightly dark skin stood staring at Emma who opened the door for a moment before raising her right hand and pointing inside the house.

Two other people wearing special police uniforms rushed into the house without Emma's approval.

"Excuse me, is there a problem? Sir, this is my house" Emma who couldn't stop the three men from entering the house could only try to convince.

Then after a few moments a tall male figure with a frown on his face stepped out of the house. He wore a black robe and a tall, round hat. His hair is black with a little gray around the edges.

As the three men left and were seen making a mess of the house, the gray man took off his hat and approached Emma.

"Mrs Alfred?"

she nodded. She knew that figure, He was the high priest of the Church of the light of wisdom, Jack Miller. After thinking about what had happened, Emma remembered that her husband had gone to church this afternoon and still hadn't returned.

With the arrival of the high priest to her house, Emma can think that Zach is in trouble.

Emma nodded while paying her respects with a slight bow. After that she raised her eyes as she stared at the man, "Does my husband have a problem?"

"Excuse our impoliteness, but we have to search this house. Your husband, Mr. Alfred seems to be a suspect in the prayer church massacre." Jack's tone dropped slightly as he spoke his words.

Emma couldn't help but be shocked. Not knowing what to say, he turned around to see the entire house was almost a complete mess.

...

On Light of Wisdom Street, the local police station.

Zach was handcuffed directly to the iron table in front of him. He sat with his hands on the table, he was still sweating and some of his clothes had visible splatters of blood.

He was no longer wearing his hat and his messy hair was more obvious.

"The number of victims inside the church were four priests and six ordinary citizens praying... I'm not sure what you were thinking. After slaughtering them, you said nonsense like this..." a slightly short man with a decidedly teenage face said while tapping on the table with his finger.

It was Leon Gillet. One of the detectives that Zach knew when he was interrogated at the gate. But it was very clear that right now He didn't recognize Zach.

"Shadow beings?…Well, most people who are mentally disturbed will often have hallucinations like that. They will say that they were forced to kill because they were ordered by a shadow creature or something…"

At this time Zach was silent, this made his head feel like it was going to explode. This all contradicts what he knows. All the police and even the detectives in front of him couldn't believe anything related to shadow creatures.

It was as if they had never dealt with shadow creatures. "Obviously, Mr. Gillet was one of the people who witnessed the sea of corpses at the gate... why does he doubt the existence of shadow creatures now?" New questions began to appear in his brain, coalescing and making his head throb.

Zach turned and saw several policemen standing as if they were guarding the door.

"...As I thought, He has a mental disorder" Leon stood up and got up, took his hat and walked out of the room.

"The church will take care of this, take him to the church's safety association, May the sun be able to forgive his sins" Leon glanced at Zach with a concerned look.

"Okay!" The three policemen said in unison.

...

Emma who couldn't hold back her surprised expression could only sit up. "There must be a mistake. My husband is a good person. He is a Gate Keeper, so there must be something wrong about this" Emma seemed to be trying to calm down.

Jack sighed and explained what was happening from his perspective. Well, that includes what the police found when they entered the church. Besides there was no evidence of the presence of anyone else in the church apart from the victims and Zach, Zach who was holding a revolver with one bullet left which meant it had been used became a strong impetus for him to be made a suspect.

Ten of the victims died after being shot by a firearm, and it was confirmed that the bullet matched the revolver held by Zach.

After explaining, Emma cut in and said with teary eyes, "Can I see my husband? I'm sure this isn't the truth, and I'm sure He will tell me what happened exactly"

When Emma said that, The three policemen had already came back, and brought some stuff. It was an empty book, a small wooden chest, and a piece of paper with a small note on it.

As well as several boxes of bullets and one revolver with an old model. The model commonly used by Gate Keepers.

The three cops pointed that out to Jack.

Jack gaped a few seconds after surveying the items. Then returned his expression back to normal and got up from where he was sitting.

"Is that all?" Said Jack whose expression looked strange and suspicious.

The three cops nodded simultaneously. Jack, turned towards Emma and said quietly, "To arrange the meeting will be difficult, you have to ask permission from the chief of police and take care of some paperwork, of course without ruling out the possibility of being rejected by the higher ups"

"Your husband is a suspect in the massacre case, the Church... it's not a case that will be tolerated easily. Um, but I'm sure you will be reunited with him, at the last moment" Jack stopped talking and said goodbye and left from there carrying some things .

Emma's expressionless and barely focused eyes were silent for a few moments. Then without waiting any longer, he got up and left the house without taking his hat.

On the main Milton street.

Franciss Residence.

Emma ran over in a hurry and knocked on the door of the modest house with an old-fashioned feel in front of it. It was a large house with a large yard. After a few seconds of silence, the door finally opened.

Inside apparently there were several people wearing priestly attire, and there was also one woman who was the high priestess.

...

The Church Security Association dungeon.

Night fell quickly. Zach was placed in a relatively narrow room with only the floor where he lay expressionless.

"What really happened? I didn't see and realized what was happening in the church... Mental disorder?..." Zach started to doubt himself. His memories of the life he lived before his several deaths stuck in his brain.

"Was it an illusion? a hallucination? Madness?" Zach smiled a little with trembling lips.

Right now he could only doubt his sanity. The environment and what the people around him did said that He was an abnormal person here.

At that moment, the sound of the door sliding was heard and the figure of a tall man in a black robe and a round hat entered the room. That's Jack Miller.

He closed the door and crouched down in front of Zach. He pushed a small wooden crate with a metal handle towards him.

An inverted triangle symbol with three circles engraved on it as if it hadn't changed since the chest was made.

"Did you carve this?" Jack's question made Zach stop shaking.
