People are different; no one will ever meet someone who shares the exact same thoughts or goals, even if they are in the same discipline or path.
For Jacob, this war is personal. He wanted to make a name for himself in this world, and he owed a lot to Rue and Foxface, who was actually named Finch Crossly. Both women sacrificed their lives so that he could live, and he was determined to eliminate the events that took their lives.
However, others fight for completely different objectives. "I am hungry, so I will fight to ensure I never lack food." Others fight simply because they dislike feeling oppressed or living in fear.
Jacob witnessed many of these things, but he doesn't really care, as all these paths will lead everyone to liberate themselves from the Capitol.
Now, after three days, Jacob has once again united all the districts in the history of Panem. This time, they all have the power to confront the Capitol and win. No one doubts delivering the final blow, but they are all waiting for Jacob.
In some way, a few days ago, Jacob felt observed. Sensing this kind of feeling, he ordered his intelligent assistant to observe the people around him, looking for anyone who was watching him more than usual. And indeed, he found someone.
"Your name is Pollux, isn't it?" At the top of a mountain, Jacob went hunting with the intention of having a conversation with this man who was actually an Avox.
Pollux was a robust man with a thick beard. His intentions in this war were to seek revenge on the Capitol for everything they had done to him. He is a cameraman from the Capitol who films Katniss' propos in District 13.
This great man had been watching Jacob, and the only reason he did so was that he received special orders from Alma Coin, or so Jacob thought.
Without waiting for a response, Jacob admired the landscape and said, "This is a beautiful world, don't you think? There are so many special things that any of us could live comfortably without having to endure these horrendous battles where more than one person dies."
"We don't need a governor who won't grant us this freedom in our lives, do you agree? It's a shame I don't have much time left to live. In a few days, after the war ends, I may die..." Jacob's words were natural, like the wind, as if talking about his own death was something he had already accepted.
Pollux looked at Jacob with a frozen gaze. Would this man die in a few months? Alma Coin, who had sent him a letter with the soldiers who came to reinforce District 5, told him that this man was extremely dangerous, planning to seize power by force and become the next ruler.
These words couldn't sound worse. Jacob Barber, the new ruler of Panem, is what many hope for. But Alma Coin explained that Jacob was corrupted by the war and that once he reached the Capitol, he would kill everyone just to satisfy his thirst for revenge.
Seeing Jacob as a threat, Alma Coin ordered Pollux to eliminate him once the districts were taken and to make it appear that all of this was caused by the Capitol.
Boggs had also received an order, but he simply stood aside, waiting to draw his own conclusions about the decision he would make.
"I suppose you haven't lived long enough in District 13 to know that Alma Coin's treatment of its inhabitants is practically the same as President Snow's treatment of the other districts, with the only difference being that the inhabitants of District 13 think it's the Capitol's fault, ignoring the cold-blooded viper hiding behind them."
Jacob's words struck Bollox's heart hard. He wanted to say something, but his body felt cold as ice and rigid like a dry branch.
"If we want to win, we have to eliminate Alma Coin and all her followers. They owe us that after sending people to kill me, and District 13 itself betrayed the other districts in the dark days."
Jacob walked to Bollox's side and said, "My desire is to avenge Rue and all those who died to save me, all those who have died and will continue to die at the hands of the Capitol. Once that's done, fate will bury me... Katniss, she will be the ruler of all Panem, and if you disagree, take your weapon and shoot."
With these last words, Jacob walked away without looking back at Bollox. Bollox may think that Jacob is unprotected, but in the distance, Katniss was aiming her bow, and right beside her was Boggs, who had made the decision to protect Katniss alone.
After resolving this issue and ensuring that District 1 was taken relatively easily, Jacob will travel to District 13 to take control of it.
...
Alma Coin was lost in her thoughts, surrounded by the growing shadow of love and admiration that Jacob Barber and Katniss Everdeen were receiving amidst the war. Every time she opened her eyes, she saw Jacob's name resonating in every corner of District 13. She felt frustration and desperation growing within her, knowing that she needed to get rid of them in order to seize power in Panem.
However, Alma also knew that eliminating Jacob and Katniss openly would raise suspicions and cause a rebellion against her. She had to be cautious, planning each step precisely to ensure the success of her plan. Her mind devised strategies and dark plans to neutralize the two symbols of rebellion.
Just as she was immersed in her thoughts, someone knocked on the door of her office. Alma rose from her seat and opened the door, finding an agitated messenger. The messenger informed her that four hovercrafts were rapidly approaching District 13, and one of them carried Jacob Barber, a key ally in the fight against the Capitol.
The news caught Alma by surprise. On one hand, she knew that Jacob's presence in District 13 could be an opportunity to discreetly eliminate him, taking advantage of the confusion and darkness of war. But on the other hand, she was aware that Jacob's charisma and bravery had won the hearts of many in Panem, including her own followers.
Alma Coin realized that she had to make a quick and carefully calculated decision. She couldn't afford to show her desperation or desire to openly eliminate Jacob. She had to act cautiously and in a way that wouldn't raise suspicions.
As she weighed the options in her mind, her face remained serene, and her voice became firm. She gave orders to receive the hovercrafts and prepare a friendly welcome. Internally, Alma began to devise a plan to ensure that Jacob's presence in District 13 would be a disguised opportunity.
She knew that the war wasn't only fought on the battlefield but also in the shadows, in strategic decisions and political manipulations. Alma Coin was determined to carry out her plan, even if it meant sacrificing her own morality.
With a heart filled with ambition and malice, Alma prepared to face the arrival of Jacob Barber and the allied hovercrafts. She knew that the future of Panem was at stake, and she was willing to do whatever it took to ensure that she would be in the place she considered rightfully hers.
...
District 13.
"Look, he's Jacob, and he's with the girl on fire!"
"Mama, that's Jacob!"
"I never thought I'd see them again!"
"They say they've united all the districts; it's just a matter of time before we're all free."
Jacob smiled, looked at everyone, and greeted them with great enthusiasm, making no one feel left out. Everyone, even the soldiers of District 13, was happy to see Jacob, who led the war to success. Reports spoke only of pure victories one after another.
Haymitch made his way through the crowd and soon saw Jacob. With a fragile smile, he hugged him tightly. "I'm glad you're alright, kid."
Jacob embraced Haymitch with great affection. This old drunkard had entered his heart and quickly became a man he held in high regard. "You don't smell like alcohol anymore. How did you manage to improve your addiction?"
"We don't have wine here..." Haymitch complained in a low voice. The people who entered behind Jacob soon dispersed. They all had weapons in hand, and at least for Haymitch, this seemed suspicious, but he didn't say anything. However, Jacob whispered to him, "I will take full control of the uprising. The witch of this place was planning to kill me."
Haymitch's eyes widened in shock. He looked around, and all the armed men positioned themselves in almost invisible spots, as if preparing for something.
Soon, the news of Jacob's arrival spread throughout the underground, and many people rushed to the mess hall, filling most of the spaces on the sides, leaving a large space in the center where Jacob was greeting Haymitch.
"I will take care of that..." Jacob looked at Katniss, and she nodded. He walked to the side with Haymitch, creating space for the real spectacle.
"In three days, we will attack the Capitol, take their defenses, and free Panem from their tyranny."
"[Entering systems, taking control of communications, and invading nuclear weapon systems!]"
Jacob's smile grew wider. He raised his hands for everyone to stop talking, and once they fell silent, his intelligent assistant displayed a hologram of some battle scenes.
"Now, with the weapons we obtained from Districts 2 and 1, we were able to arm everyone and regain the security we had lost in the previous battles. Let's not speak of the dead as something sad, but rather with a sense of honor and respect. They gave their lives for a cause that will be fulfilled."
Jacob, who was excited by his words, soon heard numerous footsteps behind him, and Alma Coin arrived with her characteristic smile that everyone could relate to a lady who cared for everyone but hid a darker aura than President Snow himself.
"And I want to introduce to you someone who has trust in me, who supported me, and thanks to her, we are where we are: Alma Coin, the president of District 13."
