Chapter 157 - The last steps

The Capitol Airbase in District 2 stood imposingly under the persistent rain. Lightning illuminated the dark sky, and the sound of rain fell as a constant whisper. The atmosphere was filled with tension and fear as the rebels gathered nearby, prepared for the most important attack yet.

The peacekeepers, with their white uniforms and intimidating masks, moved frantically, aware of the looming threat. The base was bustling with activity, with aircraft ready to take off and soldiers patrolling every corner. However, their movements were not enough to halt the rebel advance.

The rebels, their faces covered and weapons in hand, made their way through the rain, moving with precision and speed. They showed no mercy in their fight against the peacekeepers, whose bodies fell one after another without mercy.

Thunders and lightning provided fleeting moments of visibility, revealing the chaos and violence unleashed in each encounter. The sound of gunfire and the clash of weapons filled the air, blending with the roar of the ship engines and the patter of rain on metal.

Every bullet and blow were a statement of resistance, a fierce denial of Capitol domination. The rebels moved as a cohesive unit, coordinating their attacks and covering each other's weaknesses. They stopped at nothing to achieve their goal: to free District 2 from oppressive rule.

"I had nothing to do with it, I didn't even shoot at them!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"[Two targets on your left!]"

"Katniss, to our left!" Jacob shouted after receiving the alert from his smart assistant.

Katniss, pulling a regular arrow from her quiver, moved to the left and shot an arrow right into the heart of the peacekeeper, eliminating enemies alongside Jacob without hesitation.

She was immersed in battle, feeling no emotion other than the urge to kill and defend her own. They had been given a chance to surrender, but now that their enemies had not accepted it, it was time to fight.

Katniss and Jacob stood side by side, united in their determination to overthrow the Capitol. Together, they formed a formidable duo, combining their skills and experience to fight oppression.

Katniss, with her prowess in archery, moved with grace and precision, while Jacob, wielding his Kusarigama with mastery, demonstrated impressive strength and agility. Their movements were synchronized, as if connected by an invisible thread.

Amidst the chaos of battle, they covered each other, protecting their backs as they advanced. Katniss unleashed accurate arrows that found their targets with deadly precision, while Jacob skillfully swung his weapon, cutting and deflecting any approaching attacks.

Their connection was more than physical; there was mutual understanding and deep trust. Without the need for words, they communicated in the heat of battle, anticipating each other's moves and acting accordingly. They were a lethal team, complementing each other in every movement.

The bravery and shared goals in their eyes were evident. They had witnessed the oppression and suffering of the Capitol and were willing to risk everything for the cause of freedom. Their unity in battle was a symbol of resistance, a reminder that the power of a single individual could challenge the system and change the course of history.

As they advanced through the battlefield, defeating peacekeepers and liberating the oppressed, their presence sparked hope in those who had lost all faith. Katniss and Jacob had become icons of rebellion, symbols of the fight for a better world.

In every move, in every strike, their commitment to not surrendering to adversity was reaffirmed. Their union in battle was not just a display of physical strength but also of the strength of their spirit and conviction. Together, they were an unstoppable force, defying all odds.

"Everyone to the left, there are only a few left, so don't get distracted!"

"[You have enemies on your left and right, master!]"

Despite the continuous reminders from his smart assistant, Jacob couldn't react in time this time. When his smart assistant realized this, it immediately suggested an exit strategy to Jacob.

"[The peacekeeper on the left is injured. If you manage to eliminate the one on the right, the shooter on the left might miss the shot. However, analyzing the trajectory, he must raise his chest higher and expose the protected area to the injured peacekeeper!]"

Jacob did exactly as his smart assistant ordered. Another option was to move to the side and expose Katniss' body, which he was covering from behind, but that was not an option for him.

Raising his weapon towards the better-conditioned peacekeeper, Jacob opened fire, and the bullets reached his enemy before he could even shoot, easily eliminating him. One of the bullets penetrated his helmet, and the others hit his chest, revealing a curtain of blood.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

When Jacob fired, he turned his body towards the next target, but at that moment, he heard a bullet whistling past his ear, and he realized that he was about to die by a small distance.

"Ah!" Jacob's shout of anger and reflex made him shoot. The bullets sped towards his enemy, but at the same moment, he felt a strong pressure in his left chest that knocked him to the ground.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Katniss, who noticed that Jacob had fallen to the ground, turned to the front but saw that the other peacekeeper had been killed. "Jacob!"

She panicked, quickly put her bow on her back, and dragged Jacob, not caring if there were more enemies around. Jacob tried to tell her he was okay, but the words wouldn't come out of his mouth. That shot had generated a choking sensation.

Fortunately, Boggs, who was covering Katniss' back, quickly approached and fired at the enemies emerging from all directions.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"How is he, Katniss?" Boggs was nervous about Jacob's condition. His leadership was so great that it would bring tremendous depression to the soldiers if they found out Jacob had died.

"Just a hit on the bulletproof vest, he's fine!" Katniss shouted after opening Jacob's chest and seeing a red wound around his ribs.

"[Master, his injuries aren't severe. He only has some damaged tissues, no fractures or affected organs. The muscles in his body protected him from any serious harm.]"

Upon hearing the report from his smart assistant, Jacob sighed with relief and then looked at Katniss' worried face and simply breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured.
