Chapter 140 - Close your eyes

"Ah, my leg!"

Jacob, who was covered by the wall of a house, saw a rebel lying in front of him. Upon seeing this, he crawled towards him. "Hold on, come to me!"

Jacob's shout was loud, but immediately after he took the man's hand, a burst of bullets filled the man's body, and he had to retreat quickly.

Bang Bang Bang Bang!

"Damn it, keep the line and cover me!"

Jacob could only hear the air buzzing in his ear, indicating that the bullets were only a few meters away. Considering the deafening situation, it's a miracle to even notice this.

Finnick, beside Jacob, was the most nervous and intense. He felt his heart beating faster than ever before, but he still pressed forward.

"Now, let's move forward!" shouted a man who appeared to be in his fifties. The next moment, he and many others moved forward, but Jacob saw from the upper side that there were several peacekeepers on a structure.

"No!" In a desperate attempt to stop them, Jacob raised his weapon and ran forward just behind those who were rushing forward. Just before the enemy could shoot, he pulled the trigger.

Bang Bang Bang Bang!

In moments like these, Jacob wished he had better aim, but his weapon simply didn't shoot where the target was, and the target managed to hide relatively easily.

"Finnick, go to the left side and attack that sniper up high!" Jacob continued firing, and just when he thought he would have more time, his weapon stopped shooting and made a clicking sound.

He was out of ammunition!

When Jacob realized this problem, his eyes, which were fixed on the sniper up high, noticed that he was about to shoot in his direction, so Jacob, who visualized an escape route, ran at full speed.

Bang Bang Bang!

The bullets penetrated the ground, almost hitting Jacob's body, but fortunately, his body collided with a wooden door, which opened after the force of impact became unsustainable.

Boom!

"Ah, shit..." Jacob's eyes rose and soon narrowed. He saw a figure in a white suit aiming towards a door where it seemed people were hiding. Seeing how this man aimed his weapon towards the room, Jacob became extremely upset.

"You son of a bitch!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

But immediately, this peacekeeper shifted the barrel of his weapon towards Jacob, who quickly rolled to the side, avoiding the bullets for the moment. The space was small, and due to the impact of the bullets, this place was destroyed in no time.

"I'm running out of space!" Jacob knew he couldn't do much, and just as he was about to jump out of a window to escape the deadly attack, he heard a sound coming from the peacekeeper's weapon.

"Come on, it can't be!" The peacekeeper was desperate. He looked at Jacob, who was lying down while trying to shoot again and again in his direction without success.

"It seems you ran out of cartridges..." Jacob said, taking out a knife and looking coldly at the peacekeeper.

"You sound confident..." The peacekeeper threw his weapon to the ground.

Silence hung in the dark room, only interrupted by Jacob's restrained gasps and the dull sound of his footsteps towards the peacekeeper. The tension in the air was palpable as he faced a peacekeeper armed with a rubber baton. The cold and ruthless eyes of the peacekeeper met Jacob's furious gaze, ready to kill him in close combat.

The peacekeeper advanced towards Jacob with a confident step, wielding his makeshift weapon fiercely. The peacekeeper's movements were quick and aggressive, trying to intimidate Jacob. However, Jacob did not falter. Holding his knife firmly, he prepared for the imminent attack.

The peacekeeper struck with a precise blow, but Jacob moved with feline agility, narrowly evading the strike before it could hit his face. Adrenaline coursed through his veins, heightening his focus and reflexes. With each movement, he got closer to his goal: eliminating this man.

The exchange of blows continued, a wild dance of strength and skill. Jacob struggled to find an opening in the peacekeeper's defense, seeking an opportunity to deliver the final blow without risking too much of his own safety. The metallic sound of the knife clashing against the rubber baton echoed in the air, filling the room with a wild and primal energy.

The peacekeeper attempted to strike Jacob once again, but this time it was a fatal mistake. Jacob moved with feline agility, evading the attack and taking advantage of the opening left by his opponent. In a fluid and precise motion, he plunged his knife into the side of the peacekeeper.

"Ahh!"

A muffled groan escaped the peacekeeper's lips, his expression of coldness quickly fading. Jacob held him for a moment, feeling the life fading from the man's eyes.

"That's how it feels to die in the games. You fight for a damn dead regime," Jacob murmured coldly.

The peacekeeper struggled to breathe, his face turned pale, and his muscles weakened. It was the last breath of an enemy, just a man fighting out of fear.

With a mix of relief, Jacob withdrew his knife, letting the body of the peacekeeper fall to the ground. He observed the outcome of his fight, aware that he could have died at the hands of that peacekeeper.

"Don't come out until the gunfire stops. You're safe now." Jacob looked at the eyes peering out of that room, so he took the peacekeeper's weapon and a magazine with bullets.
