Chapter 3 - 3

Mother once said to me, "life isn't as scary as one thinks it, it is us who place the meaning in fear, letting it get the most of us"

I was terrified. Frightened to the bone, left pleading to be swept off the face of the earth, perhaps that would put an end to the troubles.

My heart pounded, tears streaming down my cheeks.

With staggering feet, I tried making my way through the area which I had now found myself in, the cry of nocturnal animals, leaving my all but weak heart shaken to its base.

The distant call of a crow got my skin jumping, breaths getting faster.

My eyes not for once took a stop, they were on full alert, averting from one direction to another, with part of me praying this could end.

It could only but last for this moment, for surely, the night would pass. Those were the words I tried assuring myself with.

Overhead in the sky, flew past a flock of birds, their cries traveling afar, into the depths of the woods.

There came another flight of birds, except this time they were closer to the ground, their approach, getting me frightened, but in an instant, they were all gone, the flaps of their wings all to be made out, and then the silence followed.

I could hear my own heartbeat.

"H-hello?"

"Is someone out there?" My voice croaked, heart racing.

Something fluttered in the bushes away, my breaths pouring out faster, and next followed, the snap of a branch.

Only then did I spin around, ready to make run, but was caught first with the silhouettes of five forms blocking my path.

One, two, three, four, five.

My jaw dropped at what my eyes beheld. This time, I was certain, this was no hallucination.

Beast-like figures stood right before me, all ready to come at me any second.

My ears caught onto the heavy huffs pouring out, strong breaths they gave, followed with low growls, that got my figure receding each second, hoping to evade this nightmare before me.

Here, these pugnacious beings stood, towering over my profile, with glowing eyes peering on at me.

Their arms, or what it appeared to be, had hairs covering the entirety of their skin, with claws sticking out at the end.

Long, protruding claws, visible, out to strike.

My eyes shifted from one to another, and for a moment, I paused at the third profile, gaze staring on.

Those eyes appeared very familiar. They gazed back at me, meeting my fear-clouded ones.

A low growl got me jolting, my gaze shifting to the figure stood in the middle, his eyes were sharp, locked on my form, rage evident in that gaze.

In a moment, he had let out a very loud growl, mouth widely opened, revealing a set of sharp fangs.

And right at that sight, I fell to the ground, darkness soon englobing me.
