Chereads / The Counselor / Chapter 12 - 11

Chapter 12 - 11

MADDISON BENNETT.

"You may have your seat"

A weak smile had taken my lips at the sight of the girl drawing into the space, with hands soon reaching out to the chair opposite my desk.

Eyes soft, they rested on me, taking in every bit of my profile. The silence which fell, only caused our gazes shifting through each other's, eyes observing the other.

"What is your name?" I began, cracking the tensity which had befallen the room.

"You called me in here without knowing my name?" She followed at once.

"I called you in here to ask just a few questions, I won't take much of your time" I assured the girl, but she had pulled a brow up, eyes narrowed at my form.

"You already are" She stated.

She turned silent for a moment, eyes only watching me, and in a second, a low chuckle poured out her lips.

"I'm usually like this, don't take it too serious"

"I'm Maddison by the way" She had called in a second, form relaxing back in that seat.

Maddison.

She was even prettier than I expected, with warm blue eyes peering on at me, those were enough to hold anyone's gaze.

"How was your relationship with Logan like?"

"How do you know we dated?" She called at once, eyes narrowed at my form.

"He spoke about it" I followed.

"He spoke of me?" Her gaze lingered on my form, eyes searching through mine. "Yet he acts a stranger whenever he runs into me in the halls" She followed.

"Logan's in a tight corner, you do know that?"

"Of course I know that, I was there when his brother died. I saw it all" She revealed.

"You did?"

"I owe you no explanation" She followed at once, shutting me up. The silence made its arrival yet again, with our gazes only watching each other's, we made sure to linger there.

"How was your relationship with Logan like?" I called.

"It was better than every" Her voice had fallen soft, eyes bent low.

"We were happy. We both were" She added. "And all of a sudden, he barely knew who I was"

"Knew who you were?" I was lost.

"He no longer called, barely spoke, and whenever we met, it would end up in arguments. I just had to call it off" I caught the sigh that poured out her lips.

"Did it ever occur to you that he was grieving, Maddison?"

My voice had snapped her gaze up at me at once, questioning eyes peering on at me.

"You should have walked him through it, perhaps, it could have made you guys even closer" My voice was low, eyes fixed on her.

"What are you now, a relationship expert?" She scoffed.

"He sought distance, and that, I gave him" She turned away.

"Do you still feel a thing for him?"

When no response came from the girl, I turned to the dispenser machine, getting up to fetch a glass of water.

She remained staring at me, watching as I pushed the glass on to her. And with probing eyes, she accepted it, soon downing it at a go.

"Do you still have feelings for Mister Marshall?" I called, getting to my seat.

"Yes" That voice of hers was low, eyes refusing to meet mine.

"Then perhaps, you could work things out with him"

"I've tried! I swear I have" She cried. "After breaking up with him, I tried speaking to him, to see if we could fix what we had between us, but Logan was done" She let out.

"Done with everything" The sigh escaped her lips.

"Perhaps you could talk to him" She followed at once, eyes soon lighting up.

The silence which emitted from me was one that had me baffled, if anything. Eyes remained watching her, and at the weak smile I gave, I caught the delight which had filled her gaze.

"You're a lovely girl, Maddison, you do know that?"

"Logan used to say that to me" She grinned.

"Of course, he did"

"Thank you very much, Maddison. That will be all for now" I called.

She had taken to her feet, turning to leave, but paused mid-way, eyes soon shifting to my figure.

"It would mean a lot if we get back the Logan we all used to know"

"I miss him"

"Everyday"

That voice was edged with pain, eyes crossed with a shadow of sadness, and in a moment, she had turned around making her way out.
