Dear Inspector
I'm sorry it took a while for me to reply to your letter.
Whilst I was on my way to the place you told me to investigate, my hands were stolen by a demon.
I spent the last two weeks recovering at the lighthouse, but as you know, it's hard to communicate with people when you're stranded in the Devil's Sea.
Anyway, I know you're not interested in my excuses, so I'll get to the point of this letter.
After the world went into its unfortunate decay, filled with degenerate human beings and ruled by the Devils of the ancient days, I came upon some information on some vagabonds who were once considered the protectors of peace.
And I must say, they did a poor job.
I mean, look at us!
You have a missing eye, and yet you think that's normal. Well, my dear friend, it is not.
I remember the history classes we took on these people, and everything we were taught was completely false! They didn't abandon us; they didn't ruin the Peaceful Period with their alleged deals with the unknown.
Instead, they came to an unfortunate demise, one I am determined to uncover.
I know the priests will confiscate my letters and probably banish you to the Rings of Hades, but please, promise you'll keep this secret and read them with the utmost care.
I pray night and day to learn the truth of our world.
And only the Good Lord knows what happened for things to go back into the darkest period of time.
I wish you well, and hope your wife recovers from her illness.
And even without my hands, I'll keep writing to you, so that you may know what happened and whether it was worth all of us losing our souls.
Your Dearest Companion
The Inquisitor.
