"It's a lot of people in there. How do you suppose we head in unnoticed?" Mira whispered to Lucian.
She breathed heavily, perhaps scared. Lucian on the other hand was trying his hardest to maintain his composure. It dawned on him then and there that it was indeed a risky quest.
They could hear voices and movements. Their eyes rolled around as they tried to come up with something. Mira adjusted her blonde wig while shutting her eyes.
She was terrified of the negative outcome of it all. Judging from Lucian's face, she realized his plan was about to end in disarray.
"We should just leave." She whispered again.
"No. We get what we came here for then we go." He whispered back.
'So stubborn.' She breathed.
"The emergency switch. Find it. "Go that way, I go this way." He told her.
She nodded her head in affirmation but with a disapproving look on her face and ran as fast and carefully as she could. She heard voices and footsteps approaching which caused her to turn left. It was a long corridor with doors. Thanks to the white lights she could see clearly.
She closed her eyes again, praying that she wouldn't get caught. The voices and footsteps faded. She sighed in relief looking to her left and right and lowered her body to take her red shoes off. She kept moving forward with her shoes in both hands as she muttered repeatedly,
"This is crazy."
Till she paused and took three steps backwards. She saw the red alarm button hidden behind a mini glass on the wall.
She opened it quickly and pressed hard on it. The alarm sounded all over the building. She quickly took another turn knowing there would be a crowd exiting the building any time soon.
At the sound of the alarm, Lucian lifted his head. It seemed he hadn't run very far. All the while he was behind one of the trucks in the garage.
He moved with his body still lowered to the other side of the truck. He climbed up and broke the right front window with the fire extinguisher he had picked up on his way.
He reached his hand into his trouser pocket and pulled out a lighter. As soon as he ignited it, he threw it in. He jumped down and walked away as quickly as he could afterwards to avoid getting caught or burned.
He sneakily hurried back to the operating room. He could see the crowd rushing out through the window of the room he had hidden in. His eyes caught a glance of the safe he presumed the Sci-tech was hidden in.
It was being carried by a nerd wearing a lab coat. At this point, he saw Mira. She had disguised herself as one of them, dressed in a lab coat and followed the line.
He turned his head and noticed a spare lab coat. He wasted no time sliding into it as he confidently exited to join the line faking a panic look. He got in front of Mira who was startled a bit.
"He has the safe. The one in front." He whispered to her.
"I will cause a distraction, get it and get to the car. I will meet you there at five." He added.
"Fuck it, this place is going to blow up!" He faked a rather less masculine voice while running ahead of the others to get to the one with the safe and intentionally bumped into the safe carrier.
The line had dissolved and everyone ran for their lives. Mira had gotten to the safe and mixed with the crowd so much that it became less obvious that she was heading in a different direction.
He walked along with the crowd and once they came to a point, he turned and quickened his steps. He had almost reached the shortcut he planned to take to the back door through which they had come. However, suddenly he dragged his feet to a stop.
He could see through the window that his car was empty.
"Fuck… Mira…." he muttered in a disappointed tone.
He had to go back but heard his car's engine turn on. He ran back towards it and saw it was her. She had begun driving it out of the premises.
He ran as fast as he could wondering what she was doing. He ran in the opposite direction and appeared in front of the car.
She stepped on the brakes and he rushed into the passenger seat.
"The fuck?? You were just going to leave me here?" He questioned her angrily.
"The fuck yes I was going to leave you, you forgot to tell me the part where you were intending to set a fuckn truck on fire with me inside the building!" She vented, reversing the car.
"Just get us the hell out of here and where is the safe?" He questioned in an upset tone.
She gave him no reply. He turned to see it in the back seat and rolled his eyes in relief while catching his breath.
"Unbelievable! Un-fuckn-believable! I put myself in a position to let you be the end of me! The moment we get out of here, you had better call your replacement for me!" She said.
"Oh relax, we didn't kill anyone and we are alive. We got the safe. You should be proud." He said.
"No more words. I do not want to hear another word from you or else I am driving straight into a tree!" She said while speeding as fast as she could.
She heard the boom from behind and felt the ground shake beneath the car. At that moment she blinked her eyes. Her vision had become blurry and his response to her words sounded heavy on the ears and slow to understand. Everything stopped, even time. She turned her face to him and even he was too blurry to see. Her mind tried to process what was taking place on but her body already gave in to whatever it was as it slowly shut down.
