Chereads / Nice To See You Again / Chapter 21 - Double-Edged Blade

Chapter 21 - Double-Edged Blade

Garen felt Liliane's despair as it was like his own yet, he never imagine the agony to be deep enough to wish himself to disappear. Garen was relentlessly holding on to life, he never wished to cease from existence, he wish to be with Liliane forever by her side and even if his existence was filled with despair, agony, and missery, Garen is aware that deep down, he wants to live for her.

Garen could finally understand the reason for her soulless eyes, she wanted to disappear from the beginning of her time. Garen continued to listen and let Liliane empty her wrenching heart out. He wished to understand Liliane's pain hidden within her. That was until she was left breathless and unable to work any more word from her lips.

"Lili... I am your mate. This will never change. And I want you to rely on me."

Garen's eyes were filled with heat and his vission was subtly switching to blur. He felt his chest sinking down and it was hard to breath but, he must tell Liliane of his thoughts.

"Lili, you were never at fault. It was the fault of the verse. The adults who forced you to become something for their selfish desires. They are the one to blame."

"You never wished to hurt anyone."

"Lili... You've always cared for me. You would've never wanted that!"

"You didn't knew..."

"I wish... I also knew... I wish I could've saved you back then... I wish to protect you..."

"If only I knew... If only I could go back in time... I would do it and make sure you never had to face such sadness anymore." Garen soft voice was breaking to sobs of helplessness for he knew well that he have no power to heal a damage so big like this.

Liliane's blue eyes glowed and Garen's eyes also shone a golden hue. Garen's pheromones wrapped her being with comfort, care, and love, like the comforting ocean breeze that blows on a passing broken heart.

"You've suffered so much, Lili." He whispered softly with his aching heart.

Garen reached his hand to hold Liliane's, it was comparatively so much tinier than his own. So small yet, so rough, filled with callouses that could be yet another, struggle she have to undergo.

"If you feel bad for me for awakening as an alpha in our sixth grade, feel bad for yourself who awakened as an omega earlier than me."

"People hurt you, degraded you, isolated you... You were never treated as a human and I remeber it as clear as yesterday. I rember how angry I was and how it made my blood boil so much..."

Garen bits his lip with his own helplessness in the past, the taste of rust from his blood is as bitter as his frustrations.

"I wished to protect you back then..."

"I wanted to be strong... Have the power to protect you..." Garen scoffed with irony of yet, another realization.

Garen was given such power and strength when he awakened as an alpha but, in stead of it becoming a something that could protect Liliane, he ended up being the one who hurt her the most.

In the end, they were just helpless children in the past, now, they are teens that are barely finding ways to heal their scars.

One might be pressing the wound too much in hope that the bleeding stops but in stead, it only hurts it even more. The other is hiding alternative medicines in fear of the possible side-effects it could inflict to the patient. What makes it worse is that they continue to inflict even more wounds upon themselves.

"Lili... We used to tell everything with each other." Garen's golden eyes dims to a more humanly... vulnerable state.

Liliane can't help but be reminded of a certain scene back from a field trip they attended when Liliane newly awakened as an omega. In a place where the golden sun have newly sunk down upon the horrizon and, the sky and sea were tinted into these blushing colors that slowly transform everything to darkness that let the stars shine so bright. The night ocean breeze blows on her skin, softly kissing it as Garen softly spoke in spite of the loud cracking noice by the fireworks being set off in the night sky, as if he didn't want to be heard but, Liliane have always been attentive to his every words. At that moment, Garen watched as the sparks from the sky would glow on her eyes.

"You're so beautiful..." Garen's voice blended with the ocean breeze and it softly kissed her heart.

In the time that the world scorned her, Garen brought comfort to her heart with his every little things.

Garen have always been kind to her heart and Liliane doesn't want his own heart to be broken so, she held on things deep within her heart.

"I was hurt... With what happened in the past... And I am really afraid of things that could happen again..."

"I was heart broken when you pushed me away... When you denied me... Over and over again... But... What right do I have to feel that way?..." Liliane scoffs on her own being.

"I always hated you from the deepest corners of my heart. I cursed you endlessly every night. And then..."

"I felt loss... When I figured out that... I was the reason for all of it all along..."

"I didn't know how to face you..."

"I felt bitter, betrayed, yet, also guilty..."

"But... What hurts my heart even more is to see you struggle in pain... When you look hurt... I can't breath..."

Liliane softly stroked the metal collar on her neck and deactivated it. She softly removed it and there it revealed, a deep, horrendous scar that span half of her neck. Garen could feel his breathing being severed when he saw this scar. A red image flashes in his mind and he couldn't help but groan in pain as he felt every vein in his head were like being split apart. Garen unlocks a terrifying memory.

The blood in his hands and the taste of rust in his throat. The pained stare filled with fear in young Liliane's eyes. The memory of a beast that attempted to devour his prey. It was the very instinct of marking one's mate that happened.

The skin at the back of young Liliane's neck was torn by his sharp fangs and her blood drips from its sharp tip. The young girl cried helplessly as she tries to hold her own flesh together, cover it with pressure in attempt to stop her blood.

Young Garen was in ultimate shock when he regained his conscious after going berserk. The last thing he remembers was the sound of sirens and alarms.

Garen felt sick within his stomach, twisted and disgusted with the scenery that was unfolded by his memories. Garen couldn't breath, his chest was so tight and painful as if it stopped in attempt to kill its own body.

Liliane's eyes shone in an even more brilliant blue as she hurried hug the man in comfort, her pheromones immediately embraces Garen's being, calming him down.

"Garen... Please... Breathe... Please..." She begs with her soft voice breaking in sobs.

"Just forget it... Okay?... Please... I'm sorry..."

Garen's thoughts back in the past are all coming back to him now... It's not that he never wished he ceased to exist, it's all because he forgot. He wants to kill himself for the blood of Liliane that was shed because of him...

He thought that he wanted to be with her but, he can no longer hold of such thoughts.

He remembers how many times he lost control. How many times did he have let her tremble in fear, he only hurts everyone that surounds him, specially Liliane. Terror was drowning his mind and heart of what his hands could do to Liliane, to her who desperately tried to protect his heart but, at what cost? Her very own heart.

Garen wanted to take his own life at that very moment but, he could never do it. Not after realizing to the lengths that Liliane is willing to go through for him. He doesn't want to hurt her anymore. Contradicting to his desires, he spoke other words.

"Lili... I'm sorry..." He softly whispered.

In stead of asking permission to die for his guilts, he apologizes to show that he will live for her, even though the mere thought of his existence tortures him so much. Liliane embraced him tightly for his resolve. Her pheromones of sweet flora and citrus brings him innocent nostagia, showing him an old scenery of the two them lying on rhe ground, surrounded by grass and flowers. The leaves of the tree giving shed as a covering, tangerine growing out of the branches when they reached third grade.

Garen embraces Liliane back as if he's trying to hold on to life once more.

"Let's live together..." Garen whispers and it became a new promise for the two, young, hurt, and broken souls.
