"You have set the stage for me."
Isla turned her eyes away from the man.
"Did you make sure to evacuate everyone that doesn't need to die?"
She snuggled on his shoulder, wrapped in his arms, but she didn't answer.
"Have you made sure to cut all the rotten branches?"
She didn't know why, but his voice was weirdly patient and calm.
"Do you really not want to answer me?"
Isla sighed.
"It is impossible to cut all of the rotten branches," Isla said. "Not all women, children, and old that are evacuated are pure-hearted either."
The seed of corruption, arrogance, and greed was there, and it would never be eliminated as long as there were creatures in this world.
But saving them was the right thing to do.
"That's why I kill them all indiscriminately, so I don't have to worry about anything like that."
Isla raised her head, finally trying to see what kind of face he made. He was looking at her with an unfamiliar gentleness in his eyes.
