Chapter 22 - Village Head

The chatters of the evening meal had subsided, and the dinner table was cleared, leaving behind a comforting silence in its wake.

Craving the calm of the night, Sam decided to leave the warmth of his home and step out into the chilly breeze outside.

His footsteps were directed towards a familiar destination, the home of Mr. Patel, the respected village head.

The issues that needed addressing in his hometown had been on Sam's mind for a while, and now he was determined to do something about it.

As Sam walked down the familiar path leading to Mr. Patel's house, the soft rustling of the leaves and the cool touch of the wind reminded him of his childhood.

His heart swelled with affection for the place he had always called home. He yearned to see his village grow and prosper.

The simple houses, the narrow roads, and the friendly faces hadn't changed much over the years.

But Sam envisioned a future where this quaint village could keep its charm yet advance with time.

The cool evening air carried the faint smell of blooming flowers as Sam made his way toward Mr. Patel's home, the soft glow of the porch light guiding him.

The older man was comfortably settled in his usual spot on the porch, a worn newspaper spread out before him.

As Sam approached, he looked up, his face wrinkling into a warm smile as he recognized the visitor.

"Sam, my boy! What a surprise!" Mr. Patel exclaimed, the newspaper forgotten on his lap.

"To what do I owe this late-night visit?" His voice echoed in the silent night, a note of affectionate curiosity lacing his words.

Sam settled himself on a chair across from Mr. Patel, a friendly smile on his face.

He didn't want to rush into his main motive behind the visit.

Instead, he eased into a casual conversation, asking Mr. Patel about his health, the latest news in the village, the crops, and even his thoughts on the recent sports match.

The small talk continued, laughter and anecdotes filling the air, as Sam skillfully steered the conversation towards the more serious matter at hand.

After a while, Sam's tone took a more serious turn.

He spoke with sincerity, his voice thick with emotion as he brought up the subject of the village's development.

He unfolded his dreams for their hometown, his vision of enhanced infrastructure, improved connectivity to the neighboring Town B, more efficient transportation of goods, a new storage facility, and blocks installed throughout the village.

His enthusiasm was palpable as he spoke, and it was hard not to get swept up in his excitement.

Sam wasn't merely talking as an outsider looking in; he was a part of this village, a community member who had grown up on these very streets.

His childhood was intertwined with the life of this village, and now, he wanted to give something back to it.

His words painted a picture of hope and progress, a future where their quaint village flourished without losing its charm.

Sam voiced his proposal to fund all the required improvements except for the two-lane road connectivity, but a stunned silence fell over Mr. Patel.

He blinked at Sam, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion and disbelief. His gaze was sharp, probing as he tilted his head, "What's the bait here, Sam?"

His voice was cautious, "And why this sudden interest in the development of our village?"

His skepticism was not unwarranted.

After all, this was not something that happened every day. But Sam was prepared for this reaction.

He knew he had some explaining to do, and he was ready.

After all, his intentions were sincere, and he was hopeful that Mr. Patel would see that too.

Sam took a deep breath, preparing for the revelation he was about to share.

He felt a strange mix of excitement and nervousness bubble up inside him as he began, "Mr. Patel, you know Orion Enterprise, don't you? The IT company that's been making a splash in the news lately?"

Mr. Patel nodded, his interest piqued.

"Yes, yes. I've heard of it, although I can't say I understand much about these IT businesses." He gave a small, dismissive hand wave, but his gaze remained focused on Sam.

With a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, Sam confessed, "Well, I have a bit of a personal connection to Orion Enterprise, Mr. Patel. In fact, I'm the one who started it. I'm the man behind Orion Enterprise."

The revelation took a moment to sink in.

When it did, Mr. Patel's eyes widened in surprise, the newspaper slipping from his grasp.

He had heard about Orion Enterprises, and even if he wasn't entirely familiar with the world of IT, he knew that it was a big deal.

It was known for its translation app, garnering worldwide attention.

The news of Sam's involvement with such a company was nothing short of astounding.

Mr. Patel was silent for a moment, processing the information.

Then, he nodded slowly, the initial shock fading into a sense of respect and admiration.

"That's quite an achievement, Sam," he said, his voice filled with pride.

Sam's heartbeat seemed to echo in the quiet evening as he prepared to share his next revelation.

His voice resonated with a newfound confidence, a determination that echoed the sincerity in his eyes.

"Mr. Patel," he began, taking a moment to gather his thoughts, "I'd like to use my resources to help our village, our home."

He could see the spark of interest in Mr. Patel's eyes, so he pushed on. "You see, I've been thinking about improving the quality of life here. I have a few ideas, like concreting the village roads to ensure smoother transportation."

Mr. Patel looked at him, intrigued. "Go on," he encouraged, his curiosity clearly piqued.

Feeling encouraged, Sam delved into his plans, his words painting a picture of a future he was keen to bring to fruition.

"And I believe a sewage processing plant would vastly improve our sanitation. It would keep our village clean and reduce health risks."

Nodding thoughtfully, Mr. Patel seemed to agree, but Sam wasn't finished.

"In addition, I think it's high time we had access to clean, drinkable water. I propose we set up a system to filter groundwater and provide it free of charge to the villagers."

A moment of silence followed as Mr. Patel took in the enormity of what Sam was proposing.

But Sam had one more idea. "And finally, Mr. Patel, we should install underground electrical wiring. It's safer and more efficient. Plus, it would make our village look tidier. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention...free internet for everyone. I understand that it's essential for everyone to be connected in today's world."

By now, Mr. Patel was staring at Sam in awe, clearly taken aback by the grandeur of Sam's vision.

After a moment, he regained his composure and nodded in agreement.

"I'll arrange for a village meeting tomorrow, Sam. Your ideas are worth discussing with the entire village."

Relieved and excited, Sam thanked Mr. Patel, a hopeful glint in his eyes.

Just as he was about to turn away, another question popped into his mind, bringing a wave of nostalgia.

"Mr. Patel," he asked, his voice softer, "Do you happen to know where Riya is now?"

The mention of Riya seemed to fill the air with memories of a time when the three of them - Sam, Jay, and Riya - were inseparable.

Their laughter and shared stories were a part of this very village.

The trio that once had been the heartbeat of this place.

Mr. Patel took a moment before answering, his expression softening as he recalled the spirited young girl.

"Riya... she moved to City S with her family. Her father started some business there, but from what I've heard, they've been facing some difficulties lately."

His heart ached at the news.

Riya, their childhood friend, the one who used to light up any room she walked into, was now living in a different city, facing struggles.

Not to mention Jay, who was always so fond of Riya, even if he never said it out loud. Sam made up his mind - he would help them, just like he planned to help his village.

Armed with this new information, Sam thanked Mr. Patel and went home.

His mind was buzzing with ideas and plans.

He resolved to visit Town B to assess the situation for the road connectivity and then make a trip to City S.

The thought of his old friend Riya battling difficulties troubled him, and he wondered if he could lend a helping hand.

As he crawled into bed that night, his heart was heavy with determination, his mind abuzz with plans.

The road ahead was challenging, but Sam was ready to take it on, willing to give back to his roots.

He was excited about what the next day held for him, eager to see his plans come to life and make a difference in his village's life.

The dawn of the following day marked not just a new sunrise but also the commencement of Sam's journey to transform his beloved village.
