The next day
Tanjiro went to the police station and tried hard to convince the police officers that Karasuma would never do such a thing ever again, but...
Cope: Sorry, it's too late for that now. If he had surrendered himself years ago, he would have had a chance. The government originally planned on just sending him to jail. But he didn't turn himself in. So when both the crime and the years he didn't surrender got added, the ministry just got fed up and decided to end this once and for all. I can't help you with this.
As he was about to leave, he spotted Karasuma, hands cuffed and in criminal attire. He didn't have the guts to speak to him, but as he was about to leave,
Karasuma: Thank you for trying, though I knew it wouldn't work.
Tanjiro: We know you didn't mean any of this.
Karasuma: A father's love is priceless, my child. And I loved my daughter more than anything in the world, not knowing that her absence would drive me crazy.
Karasuma shed a few tears with those words.
Karasuma: There is no point in crying now, though. I should be happy that I am finally going to see my daughter again.
Tanjiro turns around to leave when Karasuma suddenly grabs his hand. Tanjiro turns around to face Karasuma.
Karasuma: This letter is for the both of you. I have a few things to say so that my soul can rest in peace.
Tanjiro takes the letter and goes to Sol's home. He knocks on the door, which is soon opened by Sol.
Sol: What happened? Did they allow him to leave? Why are you just standing there? Say something!
But Tanjiro remains silent. Trying hard to suppress his tears, he hands Sol the letter and leaves. Sol didn't wait for even a second before tearing open the letter and reading it.
Letter:
Dear Sol and Tanjiro,
Are you both angry with me? I know you are. I am sincerely sorry for everything I have done. My daughter was everything to me. She was the only one I had. Even though I couldn't give her the ideal life a girl would hope for, she has showered me with all the love she had in her.
She was my strength, my happiness, and my world. I couldn't bear the thought that my daughter would be killed all of a sudden one day, just because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I couldn't bear to see the murderers of my daughter living a happy life after killing her and making my life a living hell.
The competition was my only hope for revenge. That's why, even though Sol had seen my true identity, I didn't kill her. I just had to make sure she wouldn't tell anyone. Even though I saw her escape free that day, I let her go. You might wonder why I kidnapped her this time.
It's because I thought Tanjiro was after me. I thought to blackmail him with her, but it didn't end well. You might wonder what I have been doing these past few years. After Mitsuha's death, I realized that most influential people use their power for their own selfish benefits.
So I started to do a little 'cleaning' for the country. I was not alone; I had people, or, should I say, a person working for me since I was unstable myself. Even if it isn't completely clean, I am quite satisfied with what I have done so far. To be honest, I am extremely happy that my due date has finally come.
I hope my daughter is finally at peace in heaven. I want to see her.
Once again, I am terribly sorry. I mean it.
Yours sincerely
Karasuma
