Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Unofficial Spy

The morning sun was all, "Yo, check out this epic golden glow," as it blasted through the curtains, making the kitchen feel hella warm and snug. I was whipping up a bomb breakfast for my hubby, feeling all giddy 'cause we were reconnecting and stuff.

I shouted, "Damn, babe, the aroma is out of this world!" while flipping the bacon in the pan with a huge grin on my face. "You're in for a real treat today!"

He chuckled. "No doubt about it. Keep working your magic in the kitchen. I'll be waiting patiently."

The mouthwatering scent of the bacon mixed with the rich smell of freshly brewed coffee, creating this epic fusion of flavors in the air that was impossible to resist. Each crackle and pop of the bacon was like a duet with my pounding heart, creating a symphony of awesomeness.

I took my time, making sure everything looked perfect as I arranged the plates with love. Today was the start of something new, a chance to bring back the fire that had been dwindling in our relationship. I craved his laughter, the gentle touch of his fingers on my skin, and those passionate hugs that made me weak in the knees.

"Breakfast is served," I said, shooting him a glance as I added the last slice of bacon to his plate. "Let's dig in and enjoy this moment together."

"Thanks. This meal means so much more than just food. It's a reminder of the love we share."

We sat down together, relishing the simple joy of sharing a meal. Our conversation was all whispers of love and promises to rediscover what we had lost. We talked about the dreams we had pushed aside and the moments we had missed out on.

When breakfast came to an end, Baby reluctantly got up from the table, his departure filled with a hint of sadness. He leaned over, giving me a bittersweet kiss.

"I'll be back soon," he whispered. "Today is just the beginning. I promise."

Hope and uncertainty mingled inside me as I watched him head towards the door, ready to face whatever challenges the day brought. Lost in a whirlwind of emotions, I absentmindedly wandered through the house, feeling the gentle breeze on my face as I passed the window overlooking our street.

Then, out of nowhere, I spotted something that shattered the peace of the morning. His car, the sleek ride that had taken him away so many times before, was suddenly parked, like, right there.

Confusion took hold of me as I tried to make sense of what was going down. Some random chick, a total stranger, came up to his car. Something gripped my gut, and my heart raced. Who the heck was she? What the hell was happening?

She hopped into the passenger's seat, moving with purpose. The engine roared to life, sounding all ominous and stuff, and they sped off into the distance, leaving behind a cloud of uncertainty. The morning that had been filled with hope suddenly felt empty.

"How could this crap be happening?" I whispered to myself.

My mind was all over the place, drowning in confusion and curiosity. I couldn't stand by and let it slide.

"Hell no," I said. "I'm gonna find out what the heck is really going on."

The peaceful morning was shattered, replaced by a storm of uncertainty that threatened to wreck everything I held dear.

So there I was, burdened by a heavy heart and a sense of foreboding, ready to embark on a journey to uncover the truth. It was like entering a twisted maze, determined to solve the mystery and discover what the hell happened to the progress I felt we were making.

I quickly dolled myself up and hopped into my sleek black sedan, gripping the steering wheel like my life depended on it. My mind was racing, and I had no clue how the hell I managed to drive to St. Jude's Hospital.

I stormed through the front door, my face contorted with frustration, and was totally caught off guard when I spotted the chick he rode with behind the reception desk. So, she's the receptionist, huh? She flashed me a warm smile, completely oblivious to the rage burning in my eyes. I didn't bother returning the gesture, keeping my jaw clenched tight.

"Good morning, ma'am. How can I help you today?" she asked.

Letting out an exasperated sigh and rolling my eyes, I snapped back, "Enough with the formalities. Just tell me where the hell Baby is."

Her smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and continued, "Of course, ma'am. Can I have Baby's full name, please?"

"Baby Corrigan."

She typed away on her computer, going through the standard hospital procedures like a pro, not even fazed by my crappy attitude.

"And you are…"

"Keisha."

"Alright, Keisha. I just need you to fill out this form and provide some basic info," she said, sliding a clipboard my way.

I snatched the form, scribbled down my responses, and handed it back without uttering a word. She took it gracefully, her smile never wavering.

"Thanks. Now, if you could kindly take a seat, I'll inform the doctor that you're here," she said, gesturing towards the waiting area.

I huffed in annoyance but reluctantly plopped myself down in one of the seats. As I sat there, simmering with anger, she made her way over to me again.

"Sorry to bother you, Keisha, but can I ask what your full name is?"

Suspicion crept over me as I eyed her, wondering if this was some sick game she was playing. "Lakeisha Corrigan," I muttered.

Her eyes widened, and to my surprise, she got all excited, stretching out her hands to shake mine. Confused as hell, I reluctantly took it.

"Mrs. Corrigan! It's seriously an honor to finally meet you," she exclaimed, genuine enthusiasm bubbling out of her.

I furrowed my brows, totally thrown off by her unexpected reaction. "What the heck are you talking about?" I demanded, my voice laced with confusion and apprehension.

The receptionist—her name was Mia—started pouring out all these heartfelt words, like she couldn't contain her emotions any longer. "Oh my gosh, Baby Corrigan talks about you nonstop! He's head over heels for you, Mrs. Corrigan. He always tells me how much you mean the world to him. It's such a pleasant surprise to finally meet you!"

Before I could even process what she was saying, I heard a familiar deep voice in the background. "Lakeisha?"

My gut dropped, and I turned slowly to face the man standing there—the man who was supposed to be in his office. Baby, my husband, was staring at me with a mix of confusion and surprise in his eyes.
