Chapter 1 - The Day the World Ended

'Everything went wrong in only what was a few seconds.

I witnessed the now previous period of my life… Die right in front of me.'

Kadyn's mother reaching out her hand, screaming his name. At first, she pleaded for help. Her words became muddied as sobs exited her mouth.

He was only a few feet away. The 17 year old boy watched the little hope that she had disappear from her eyes. His older brother run over to her, trying to lift the debris off of her crushed legs.

'But it was hopeless.'

Both of them were crying and their sobs joined together, mourning and fearing the near future. However, they weren't the only ones.

Screams joined them, and they all became an orchestra of fear—frustration—sorrow.

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE HERE!" A voice shrieked.

"PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!" Another screamed.

However, Kadyn's family remained silent only occasionally letting out grunts.

"Help me lift the debris, Kadyn!"But Kadyn only stood there, staring at his mother slowly lose consciousness from the pain.

'I can't.'

"KADYN!"

"I can't do this…" He mumbled to himself.

"PLEASE."

'I don't remember how it happened, but all I remember is my mother…'

"Keon, take your brother and get out of here before the monster targets us."

"But—"

"Keon!" She yelled.

The both of them made eye contact—A last look at each other's faces.

Never again could they return to those peaceful days.

The daily routine of their mother coming home late from her hard day at work, and both Kadyn and Keon returning from their schools. They'd get together and eat dinner—even if it was late, the two brothers both waited for their mother to come to eat the meal the two made for them all.

There were times when their mother was later than usual, and Kadyn had the slightest fear she might never return. But he couldn't imagine that that would become true.

'Keon ran over and grabbed me. He didn't look back, but I did. I turned my head to see my mother staring at us—watching us run… To a future without her—To a future she could not join.
