Chapter 1 - Out of time

It is the year 3016, and 16-year-old Nathaniel Richards was walking home when he was attacked by a group of thugs. Luckily for Nathaniel, he was saved from being hospitaalized by a grisly knife wound. However, it was by his time-traveling future-self who wished to be referred to as Kang The Conqueror. Kang then decided to take Nate, his younger self, through time and show him all of his future victories and glory as Kang The Conqueror.

This plan backfired on Kang, and Nate was disgusted with the vile acts and life of evil his future self had revealed to him. Kang then pressed Nate to accept his future by transporting him back to his original time and coercing him to kill the knife-wielding bully who would have hospitalized him. Instead, Nate steals the time-travel equipment loaned to him by Kang and transports himself further into the past, hoping to avoid his sinister destiny.

Being fascinated by the heroes of his Ancestor Reed Richards' time, Nate desperately searched for their aid. Unfortunately, his ancestor's famous team The Fantastic Four was nowhere to be found and even their New York Homestead, The Baxter Building, was now leased by Parker Enterprises. His Ancestor's colleagues, The Avengers were his next logical step in seeking assistance in his endeavours. However, everyone he asked declined to help him. In fact, his personal idol Tony Stark attempted to capture him until he could deliberate a next course of action. When Nate escaped he fled for an abandoned warehouse in stolen Iron Man armor that he personally modified with Kang's futuristic time-travel tech. There he discovered the decommissioned Vision, who had been deactivated after he could not be saved from a mind-control virus installed by Hydra. When he uploaded Visions software into his own armor he also learned of an Avengers Protocol; one in which Vision would gather the most suitable candidates for a response team if the original members of the Avengers had perished.

Nate then activated Vision and they pursued gathering members for a team to prevent the transformation into Kang.

This new team consisted of The Patriot (Elijah Bradley),Iron Lad (Nate Richards), Hulkling (Theodore ), Stature (Cassandra Lang), Wiccan (Billy Kaplan), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and Vision. They would call themselves, The Young Avengers.

It was the summer of 1943. The world was in the grip of a war. Three quarters of the European continent lay in ruin, crushed beneath the heel of a german jack-boot. Neither the sands of Africa nor the steppes of Russia were safe from the nazi scourge. On the other side of the world, the Pacific ran red with blood.

While the valiant allies struggled against seemingly overwhelming odds, the dictators of Berlin, Rome, and Tokyo gleefully divided the world amongst themselves for conquest. As the sun set over Europe, freedom was soon to become more than a fond memory.

That year back in 1943, a time-ship belonging to an extraterrestrial race known as the Orphu crash landed in Berlin. Fortunately for the nazis, there were no survivors, and the time-craft quickly passed into the hands of the German High-command.

Top nazi scientist Baron Zemo labored over the alien vessel for months before finally penetrating a few of its secrets. Zemo and his assistants eventually learned enough about the craft to enable them to construct two additional timeships using spare parts scrounged from the original vessel.

With three working time machines, the Nazis now had power over time and space in their very grasp! Their only remaining task was to determine the most effective way to employ their new weapon in the struggle against the allied powers. It was the devious Red Skull himself who finally came up with the answer: elite nazi commando units were assigned to each of the time-vessels and sent to predesignated points in the future. There, the commando teams would try to get their hands on fantastic futuristic weapons to be brought to bare on the allied forces.

One of the teams was sent to 3126; from which the commandos managed to return with a formidable "super-vehicle" in tow. The other two teams were never heard from again; one was sent to 5758, and the other to 2019!

Cut to…

2019…

Klaus Krupptmann, one of Baron Zemo's original assistants on the nazi time travel project, was still unnaturally alive and well. In the early months of 1945, Krupptmann managed to conceal his former affiliation with the nazis from allier officials, allowing him to defect to the United States and escape Germany before the fall. Since the war, Krupptmann had worked on a number of top secret projects for the US government. Just recently he had been given a position in the research and development branch of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Although Krupptmann's surface allegiances may have changed, his loyalties certainly haven't. To this day, he remained a secret supporter of the nazi party and a frequent contributor to the South American Nazi-backed criminal syndicates. Krupptmann's dream was to restore the glory of the 3rd Reich; a dream he soon hoped would become reality.

Krupptmann took extensive notes on the time travel project back in 1943, including the fact that one of the elite commando units was sent forward into the year 2019. Among his notes, Krupptmann had found the team's projected point of arrival in the future era (what is now the sewer system beneath San Diego), prompting to devise an ingenious scheme.
