Jeffrey's PoV
After receiving my instructions from the young lord, I made my way to my old home on the outskirts of the city.As I approached the familiar house, it appeared just as I had left it.
I knocked on the door, and a weathered voice responded, "Coming." The door opened, revealing the caretaker, Uncle Alfred.A sense of nostalgia washed over me as I entered the house. Uncle Alfred greeted me warmly, saying, "Come inside, master."
We sat down, and he prepared a cup of tea for us. As we sipped our tea, I engaged in a little chat with Uncle Alfred, wanting to catch up with him. I asked, "How has it been going for you, Uncle Alfred?"
He replied with a gentle smile, "It's all fine, master. Everything is good."Curiosity got the better of me, and I inquired further, "When was the last time you paid a visit to your son, Uncle?"
His face turned somber, and he sighed, "It's been more than a year since I last visited them, master." Hearing this, I felt a pang of empathy and decided to suggest something that could be beneficial for me as well as Uncle Alfred.
"Uncle Alfred," I began, "why don't you take this upcoming month to say hello to your family?" Concern filled his eyes as he responded, "But who will take care of the house, master?"
I reassured him, "You don't have to worry about that, Uncle. Here, take some money with you. I think your son could use it, especially as winter is approaching."handed him some funds, hoping it would ease his worries. Then I told him. "Uncle, I have some friends who are heading to the neighboring city this afternoon. They're going on an escort mission for a caravan. I can introduce you to them, and they can ensure your safe travel. Just make sure you return before the snow starts falling heavily."
A mix of gratitude and anticipation shone in Uncle Alfred's eyes as he expressed his thanks, "Thanks, master, for your generosity. I will immediately pack my luggage while you finish the remaining tea." With those words, he headed to his room to prepare for the upcoming journey.
Later, I accompanied him to meet my adventuring friends, who were setting off to the neighboring city, ensuring his safe travel. After ensuring that the house was prepared according to the young duke's plan, I decided to head back to the city center and treat myself to a drink at my favorite pub.
After drinking for a while I bought four bottles of premium whiskey and placed it inside my bag. As the evening approached, I strolled around aimlessly, enjoying the bustling streets, until I found myself standing in front of the adventurer's guild.
I walked inside and approached the receptionist's desk. I inquired, "I had posted a delivery task yesterday under the name Jeffrey. Has it been completed?" The receptionist smiled and replied, "Wait a minute, sir. Let me confirm that for you."Patiently, I stood there as the receptionist sifted through the documents, looking for any information about my task.
Finally, the receptionist looked up and said, "Yes, it has been completed." They gestured towards me, indicating that I needed to provide some identification proof.I reached into my pocket and pulled out the receipt I had received when I initially posted the commission.
I handed it over to the receptionist, who inspected it to verify the details. Satisfied with the confirmation, the receptionist handed me a sealed letter. With the letter safely tucked away in my breast pocket, I made my way toward the knight's headquarters.
As I entered George's cabin at the knight's headquarters, I could sense the frustration in his voice as he spoke.
"Jeffrey, if you've come here to change your post again, then forget it. We don't need to talk anymore.
"No, George, I haven't come to discuss my post. I understand that nothing can be done about it. I'm here to inform you that I've made a decision. I will protect the young lord with my life."
Anticipating George's response, I knew he would question the point of my resolve.
"You know very well that nothing will change, Jeffrey."
"Yeah, george I know that nothing will change, but atleast I will die trying "George couldn't help but burst into laughter, a hearty and genuine expression of approval.
George: "Good, good... That's the spirit, Jeffrey. That's the spirit a knight should possess. As your dying wish, my friend, I will do you a favor and keep this decision from the duke. However, you must still report to me if you come across anything unusual. Is that clear?
"Yes, George, I heard you loud and clear."With that understanding, our conversation concluded, and I left George's cabin.
As the night drew closer, I retrieved the bottles I had purchased earlier in the afternoon. Approaching the guards, I gestured to them, offering a drink.
At first, they hesitated and refused, but with a bit of persuasion, they eventually succumbed to the temptation and joined me in imbibing. As the hours passed and midnight neared, the effects of the alcohol began to take hold.
Most of the guards had consumed more than their fair share and were now sprawled on the ground, deep in the embrace of drunken slumber and soon I also felt asleep.
Arthur's PoV
I was waiting in my room, feeling restless. An hour had passed, and just as I was starting to grow impatient, Agnes entered and said, "Young master, the task is completed. Currently, Beatrice, Eleanor, and Matilda are transporting the assassins to Jeffrey's home outside the city."
Hearing Agnes's report of the successful completion of the mission, relief washed over me.
"Agnes, was there any problem or complications during the mission?"
"Nothing unexpected occurred, young master. However, there was an incident involving the assassin lord. He sustained severe injuries and is currently unconscious. He is expected to regain consciousness tomorrow."
"It's alright Agnes as long as he is alive,All is well"
Saying that I went back to sleep.
