Bruce found some humor in what he overheard. Perhaps the leader of this camp did have better equipment and leadership skills, but Bruce wasn't about to let anyone demand anything from him. He'd fought hard for his survival, enduring immense hardships and pain.
If he was that amazing, he should have protected people from other cities as well aside from his own. He probably fought and then saved some people and didn't have to let others fight, but he wasn't going to take that option from Bruce's hands.
Yet, beneath the surface, the camp leader had a point. In a world where humans were vastly outnumbered and surrounded by relentless monsters, infighting was senseless. Bruce had no intention of letting others die due to his stubbornness. Luckily, this was a problem with a straightforward solution, and he was willing to find one to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
