The steam curtain dissipated and the enemies saw Bruce taking a few steps backward. He was still unscathed, but he was completely serious about the task at hand. He had a lot of enemies to kill, after all, so he had to pace himself.

Bruce knew that he had to pace himself, but he couldn't help but taunt the enemies. Even when he was serious, he couldn't help but act like a moron. It was like asking water to stop being wet, it was impossible for Bruce to stop with his antics.
The next enemies aren't fazed by the first few deaths. If anything, in what they lacked for brain, they made up for it in courage. The beasts learned that they could only attack two at once and began to charge in pairs.
