Chapter 23 - A wild wolf appeared!

"Sorry for interrupting your sleep," Bruce said. "But I would like your help with something. I don't know how many people are there with you, but I need your help and the help of the other two. Don't worry. Neither of you will have to leave your room; they just have to see me."

The woman didn't like the least those words and the situation she was in. However, she relaxed a little when she confirmed that the weapons of those three were on their backs. Before they could try anything, she would have enough time to lock it. After locking behind for a single moment, the woman gave the sign to the people inside the room to approach, revealing two little girls who were no older than five. Bruce sighed… he was enjoying the magical apocalypse. Still, at moments like that, he couldn't help but feel like something pointy was passing through his heart. During wars and events of gigantic proportions that happen and cause a lot of destruction, kids are those who suffer the most.

"… This may sound weird, but I want to think with all your might that you want to join my group," Bruce said. "Just wish for it, and then I will leave you alone."

The woman looked at him as if Bruce was some kind of lunatic, but then again, she quickly followed his words in order to get rid of him. Although the kids were scared, they didn't make much of a fuss. In the next moment, Bruce's party became full, and then he received some notifications, and then finally, some chainmail fell right in front of them.

Chainmail (Common) (+0)

A common piece of armor that possess no significant capabilities or effects. Forged by an average blacksmith.

Physical Defense: + 5

Durability: 20/20

Requirements: 10 Strength

Weirdly enough, the chainmail had varied sizes. Some were big enough for Diane, while others were small enough for the kids. Despite that, they would have a hard time keeping that equipped. Bruce picked up his new item and ten immediately equipped. He heard that normal chainmail weighed ten kilograms, but that one had only half of that amount. Still, it would be difficult for kids to use them.

"Well, this is. Thank you for your cooperation," Bruce said and then faced Diane and Chris. "Smell ya later."

For a second, Chris thought of stopping Bruce. Although he was weird and was having too much of an excellent time killing monsters, he wasn't a bad person. If anything, having his company to defend the building would really come in handy. However, he gave up on the idea when he saw Bruce leaving without a hint of hesitation.

"I wonder if we did the right thing," Chris said.

Diane looked at him and, for the first time, didn't know what to say. Bruce was an oddball; he was insane enough to fight with a smile on his face while the monster's blood rained over him. However, he didn't demonstrate that madness outside the battles, not all that much, at least.

"I don't know if we did the right thing," Diane said. "But it is too dangerous to keep moving at night. Who knows how many of those Stone Golems are out there? Besides, I don't think that we will be able to take down another one. Bruce doesn't want to stop to rest, so we didn't have any other choice."

Diane was tired; she was a volleyball player at the peak of her age and physical condition, but the tension he felt during those battles wore her out much more than any game could have done. Chris felt fine, but the moment he began to relax, he felt his limbs getting heavier. That is what happens when the adrenaline disappears after a long physical activity.

When Bruce left the hotel, he noticed that something had changed. His social status had leveled up, and some of his attributes increased without him receiving a single notification.

"Charisma and presence went up by two points, and perception increased by one point?" Bruce asked while he was rubbing his chin. "I wonder why only those attributes increased… ah, I obtained three more allies. Is it thanks to that woman and her kids?"

In any case, Bruce couldn't tell how much he had changed thanks to all that. If anything, he didn't feel different than before. If that status only affected his interaction with others, he didn't notice any change with Diane and Chris. That woman and her kids also looked fearfully at him, only at the end, they seemed confused and surprised, but that was probably due to the chainmail that appeared out of nowhere.

"Whatever," Bruce shrugged. "Time to move on… I need to confirm how my parents are before midnight."

Although Bruce was a lazy gamer, he knew well how to motivate himself. Define a goal that is a bit hard to achieve. Judging by his biological clock, it was already 23:30. Running five kilometers in that time was a bit too much for him. At the same time, he still had to be careful of monsters.

"I ended up forgetting about the backpack," Bruce sighed. "I have to look for one while I walk."

"Oooooooooooooooowhoo!!"

Suddenly, Bruce felt a shiver when he heard that howl. He was pretty sure that wolves weren't supposed to exist in that region. So, that only means one thing: a new monster appeared.

"Wolves, huh…" Bruce said. "Somehow, they scare me more than goblins…"

It was probably a mutation of the wolves Bruce knew. However, Bruce decided to think that this new kind of enemy would have all of the strengths of the animal from Earth and none of its weaknesses. Their sense of smell will be a powerful weapon against Bruce, even in that darkness. Still, since Bruce would have to put more effort into dealing with them, he would welcome the problems they might cause to him, and also the experience points and the spiritual coins they carry with them.
