Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: A little holier for a cup of tea

Lucas was called by Lucy to come and visit the usual tea spot. She didn't tell Lucas why, but said it was important that he comes. Sensing something important was about to happen, Lucas went to the usual spot without complaining.

There Lucy was sitting next to the table, Amari was nowhere to be seen and there were four seats instead of the usual two. Lucas was a bit worried, but sat down in his usual chair.

Before he could say anything to Lucy, Lucas felt a powerful aura appearing behind him. He didn't sense any hostility, so he didn't take any action. A tall man walked to Lucas' left and said with a gentle voice "Your tea, mister Legul." The tall man was the one with the powerful aura, and after Lucas observed a little deeper, he sensed a holy aura as well.

The tall man then walked to Lucy's side and now Lucas got a better view of the tall man. He had long golden white hair and also a dragon tail. His eyes were also golden yellow and his face was an embodiment of calmness. He also had four horns coming from his sides pointing 40 degrees backwards. The tips of the four side horns had golden tips, but otherwise they were somewhere between white and grey. Lucas also noticed a singular horn coming from a little higher than his forehead. The singular horn looked more like a yellowish gem than a horn.

After the tall man gives the tea to Lucy, he pours down some tea to the cup of the still empty seat on Lucas' right. After that, the tall man pours some tea to the last cup of tea and then sits to the chair left of Lucas. Now there is only one seat empty.

The man says "Come on now Naga. Why don't you take a seat like a civilized person." Then moments later, Naga appears on the seat to the right of Lucas. She has her arms crossed and doesn't wear any clothes as per usual.

The man says "Come on now Naga. While we are guests this time, we shouldn't make other participants feel awkward around the table." For a while Naga does nothing, then she asks "Luciana. Lucas. Neither of you have any problems with how I am, right?" Lucas answers "Not at all" and Lucy answers "A bit".

Then Naga looks at Lucy with daggers in her eyes, and Lucy then continues "But I think I can tolerate it." Then Naga stops looking at Lucy and closes her eyes while still having her arms crossed.

The man gives a small sigh before starting to speak. "I gathered us here together to make it clear how things are expected to go going forward. While miss Tyrp and Naga knows who I am, that leaves mister Lucas. As such I will introduce myself. My name is Luga, the god of creation and the chief deity amongst the gods. Rest of you know who each other is, so we can leave the introductions there."

Lucas asks "Why would a god want to meet up with the little old me?" Luga answers "You are the pinnacle of what a mortal can do without becoming a deity themselves. We have estimated that you could easily take down any god below the god rank A, so implying that you are just nobody would be a great mistake for anyone to make. As for why I needed you specifically here, well it has to do with how the god of fate Sors has foreseen your fate. As for why miss Tyrp is also here, we wished her to be here as a witness to what is discussed here."

Lucas says "And why is Naga here?" Luga is silent for a moment until he spouts "Well… She has said that any god who has to deal with you has to have to go through her first. To which she agreed to meet mister Lucas on the condition that she will, and I quote "I will watch your sorry ass so that you won't do any finicky shenanigans on my darling"."

Lucas then asks "So what is so important about my fate that you must come and see me?" Luga says "It's about miss Inertia's, your wife's so-called grand plan." Lucas says "I know you are a god and all that, but don't you dare undermine her intellect." Luga says "That was not my intention. I apologize if I made it sound like I don't see her true intellect. On the contrary, I believe she is perhaps the single most intelligent mortal to "walk" this mortal world. While I don't know how much I should disclose, I can guarantee you that the original objective of her plan will succeed. The secondary objective however… Well, fate has a twisted sense of humor sometimes."

Lucas says "If her plan will succeed, then I'm all the more happy to follow her every instruction to my grave." Luga says "It would be nice if it were as simple as that. I mean you should only look at…" Luga's comment is interrupted by a sudden killing intent coming from Naga. She says "I dare you to finish that sentence, brother." Luga remained silent for a while. Then Naga says "Smart man" and drops her killing intent.

Then Luga goes to a different topic and says "So about your fate mister Legul. Say, how would you fare if someone told you the date of your death? Nothing more, nothing less." Lucas says "I wouldn't change a thing. Is that what all this is about? My incoming death? If that's the case, then spill it out."

Luga says "Twelve days from now, you will die thanks to your values." Lucas says "So eleventh day of next month. A shame. I have much I have to teach to those youngsters. Especially Roland."

Then Lucas looks at Lucy and says "Sorry. I guess you'll have to find another teacher in my place since I won't be around next school year." Lucy says "A shame indeed. While they might not say this out loud, I believe you have done a great deal for people in this academy. I will prepare to find your replacement. And don't worry about Roland. I'll take care of him in your absence."

Then Lucas nods and says "In any case, why did you, a chief god Luga, need to come all the way over to the mortal realm and tell me my fated death? You could have just used some priest or something to send the message." Luga answers "The way I see it, it would tarnish the image of gods if we would never have acknowledged your feats. Hence, it is only proper for one to come and tell you themselves. And as for why it had to be me, well I feel that you deserve the honor to witness the chief god themself. There was also the matter of fright amongst the gods who I thought should meet you first, so I had no choice but to come here myself."

Then Naga says "The latter is the real reason why you came yourself. You wanted to raise the admiration that other gods have for you." Luga says "I have no comment on that."

Then Lucas says "I assume the fright is about my mimicking skill?" Luga says "Yes, that is the case." Lucas says "And you think that I can't just try to mimic the chief god themself?"

Luga, as calmly as ever, states that "While you may certainly try and mimic me, the reason why I'm not worried has to do with the scope of which you can mimic me or Naga. The matter of your ego staying intact, should you try to use your "Beyond mimicry" skill. It takes a strong mind to try and become a god with only the sheer force of will."

Lucas then smirks and says "So I have your permission to try, I take?" Luga says "Go on ahead."

Lucas starts to use his normal mimic skill to mimic the powers of the top entity of the world. He manages to make the first step, which increases his power level quite significantly. In arrogance, he tries to use his special skill "Beyond mimicry" to become a true doppelganger with all the powers that the target possesses without weakening any of them. At first, he manages to hold out the form for a while, but then Lucas starts to have problems controlling his own ego. If he loses his ego in the process, he will cease to exist.

Perhaps it was because of what Luga said about his fated death that made him take a huge risk and continue to use his skill. His ego was suffering and he started to lose his sense of self as the alien ego was fighting his own ego.

It was like two suns trying to absorb each other's power moment after moment. Both gravitational fields would absorb the mass of the other, but since Lucas' sun wasn't even half the size of the sun he was trying to absorb, he was fighting a losing battle. So before his own sun would be absorbed by the alien sun, he stopped the use of his skill and witnessed his first defeat over egos.

If Lucas was a human, he would be sweating profusely after the battle. But even though he had to give up the battle over ego, he still managed to grow during the process. This meant that he was even stronger than he was before this meeting. The battle over ego was solely made between Lucas' ego and the image of Luga's ego. Luga didn't have to lift a finger during the process, since the skill that Lucas used was solely dependent on Lucas himself.

Luga asks "So? How was it, mister Legul?" Lucas, while still catching his breath, says "I admit that I can't fully become you, but perhaps if I had a little more time to grow, then who knows what would happen."

Luga nods and says to Naga "See? I told you that he knows his limits." Naga says "I never said that I didn't believe he wouldn't make it." Luga gave a small smile as he said "But you were worried, weren't you?" Naga stayed silent.

Luga then drank the rest of his tea and said "Now then. I suppose it is time for us two to leave. Don't you agree, Naga?" Naga says "Fine. I leave Lucas be for now."

Luga then says to Naga telepathically "I recommend you don't try to pull anything to alter mister Legul's fate." Naga says with telepathy "I won't make any promises."

Luga then mutters to himself "She is a rule breaker through and through." Then he says "Now then, mister Legul, miss Tyrp, I wish you two a pleasant day. Oh, and mister Legul?" Lucas asks "What is it?" Luga then says "Remember, not all in life is obtained without sacrifice."

Then Luga walks away until no one can see him anymore.

Then Naga says "Darling, come to the cathedral of Proto apotypoma on the eleventh. No matter what, you must come there on that day. Do you understand?" Lucas says "Got it." Then Naga says "Good. That's a promise then. See you there." And then Naga disappears as well.

During all that talk, Lucas couldn't even take a sip of the tea that Luga poured for him. He took a sip, paused for a moment, then took another sip and then said "Yep. This tastes awful."
