Chapter 15 - TRY OUTS

DIONE'S POV

The tryouts have started. I have been nervous these past few days because of the pressure from our teachers to pass our activities and the practice with Alice. I'm confident but at the same time, scared of it.

"Relax, Dione." Alice comforted me. "We'll do well, okay?" I took a deep breath.

"Alright. It's time." I said and stood up. It's my turn to play.

"Good luck!" Alice cheered. I smiled at her.

I was sweating so hard after the try outs. Alice was still full of energy while I'm already drained. Marco and Chloe also came to watch while I was in the middle of the game.

"You did great Dione!" Chloe cheered on me.

"You were awesome." Marco handed me a bottle of water and a new towel. I gladly accepted it.

"Thank you." I smiled at them. Alice was with Paul, as usual. We're just strolling around the campus when we saw Elijah heading towards us. Chloe immediately linked arms with me while Marco just stayed at my side. I waved at Elijah.

"Hey Eli, what's up?" I greeted. Marco fist bumps Elijah and waved at Chloe.

"Our try outs are coming up. I was wondering if you want to watch." He told me.

"Yes!" Chloe immediately replied without hesitation. Marco and I looked at each other, stopping ourselves from laughing.

"Okay, sure. Take Chloe with you first. I'll call Alice." I said. Elijah nods and Chloe lets go of my arm to follow Elijah.

"Aren't you coming also?" I asked Marco.

"I'll just follow you." He replied. I nodded and called Alice to inform her.

We shortly arrived at the basketball court and saw the players warming up. Marco and I just sat far from the bleachers because it might cause an uproar to see the captain of the rival school here in the try outs.

"Can we also go to your school if you're having try outs?" I asked him.

"Sure, I'll just fetch you." He answered. I pursed my lips and spoke.

"Wow, you look like a principal there than being a student." I joked. He just laughed and ruffled my hair.

"Hey! I just brushed my hair." I pouted. He pinched my cheeks.

"You're too cute." I blushed. I quickly looked away and saw the game had started.

Chloe was on the other side of the court. I saw how she cheered on Elijah.

"Hmm, Chloe really has a huge crush on Elijah." I mumbled. Marco surprisingly heard it.

"Yeah, she actually does." He agreed. I chuckled.

"There you are, I have been looking for you." Alice suddenly pops out of nowhere.

"Where were you?" I asked. She sat down beside me.

"I went to the cafeteria to get some snacks before coming here." She showed me a plastic full of snacks. "Here, have some. Marco, just pick some snacks here."

"Thanks, Alice." Alice just smiled and cheered for Paul. I grab my book.

"I'll just read. I can't really understand how the game works." I told Marco.

"If you want, I can explain it to you." He offered. I shook my head.

"Not now, you can explain to me later, just enjoy watching." I gave him a smile and flip my book to read.

I could clearly hear all the yelling and cheering of the crowd. It's a little annoying but I can sense how much they had fun of doing it. All is going well when a loud gasp and scream from the crowd had heard as if someone had been hurt.

"Paul!" Alice screamed. I looked at her and in front. My eyes widened when I saw Paul lying on the floor. Hurting his feet. He is in pain. The referee immediately called the first aid. Carrying him with a stretcher and went to the hospital clinic. Alice immediately gets her bag and followed Paul.

"What happened?" I worriedly asked. Marco looked at me and patted my head.

"Paul slipped with another player, but he was the one who got injured. The other player is fine, but he will be sub out because he had hit his head." Marco explained to me.

"But the game didn't stop."

"Yeah, that's normal in ball games. The game must go on even if your best player is injured. The only way to avenge is to win the game."

"Does that mean you've experienced it before?" I suddenly asked him. He smiled at me.

"Only sprain injury, nothing more." He answered. I glanced to look at his foot.

"I see." I mumbled. I felt sorry for the players. "What happens if you're badly injured?"

"if it went like that, you might have a risk of losing your basketball career." He replied. I felt sad.

"When will be your try outs?"

" Next week, want to watch?" I nodded.

"But you have to explain to me first what is going on inside the court." He chuckled and nodded in agreement. I smiled at him.

The try outs are done. Marco and I went to the clinic while Elijah and Chloe will follow later because Elijah needs to shower first and Chloe will wait for him. As we went inside the clinic, we saw Alice and Paul chatting. Although Alice's face is written as worried. I waved at her and sat on the sofa. Marco sat beside me.

"What did the doctor say?" I asked.

"The doctor said that it might take 2 weeks to heal, and he is advised not to engage with extreme activities for a while." She sighed and looked at Paul.

"Sorry to make you worry." He stroked her hair. Alice gave him a plain smile.

"Don't make me worry too much. You still need your legs to work." Alice joked. Paul smiled. What a romantic scene. I rolled my eyes and crossed my legs. Elijah and Chloe arrived and asked how is Paul and the answer remained the same.

"So, what are we going to do?" Alice asked.

"Since the try outs are done, I think your college is next, right?" Elijah asked Marco.

"I just got an info that the try outs will be tomorrow. You can all come and watch if you want." Marco replied.

"And since our midterms are coming up, why don't we arrange a study out session? It's more motivating to have people to study with you." Chloe suggests. We all agreed to the idea. I should also focus on the exams rather than playing around.

"I must go first. See you tomorrow." Marco bid goodbye and quickly left. I just saw that someone texted him before he said it. Anyway, it is time for us to go home. There's nothing much to do here.
