Sarell's eyes widened, he hadn't intended to ask something so forward but he didn't regret it, even if the outcome had been negative, he wouldn't have hesitated to take the risk and ask again.
It was easy to try to convince himself that he was just Reqiel's personal attendant but personal attendants didn't raise their charges like their own children. He wasn't going to return to Prince Velia's chambers and resume being an ornament when Reqiel needed him.
"Thank you, Your Highness," He mumbled, still unsure of how to handle such an unexpected freedom.
"Be back by sundown," Velia tossed at him, turning around to leave.
Sarell watched his retreating back until the lavender-painted door closed behind him, refocusing on Reqiel. Without an audience, the tension in his shoulders bled out - it was just him and Reqiel like it always used to be.
