Chapter 1 - Chapter: Does it end here?

Everyone desires to be special. To have that one thing only for them. All my life, I was never given that one thing, until one day, the world I knew changed. All of a sudden, I was at the center of it all. I can't start this story from the beginning because I am not important in the beginning. I, therefore, will start it from where I matter.

As I ran barefooted on the cold ground, I realized that I would probably not survive. But I wanted to. I wanted to live as I desired. But so long as I had the system, I most likely would not survive.

I had made a mistake and everyone found out. The moment the world lost its power I gained mine. A power which I could never use no matter how hard I tried. And yet these people wouldn't believe me. They had chased me for at least a year now. And although I had successfully postponed it, the inevitable happened.

"Over here!" A voice shouted from behind me. It was followed by the sound of several feet running on the same ground I was running on. An arrow pierced my shoulder and something I didn't recognize struck my leg. I gritted my teeth and didn't stop running. These bastards were already launching magic attacks.

I could here the footsteps getting closer.

"Damn it!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

"Leave me alone!"

I wished I could kill all of them. I wished they would just leave me be. Leave me to live with my useless system. Their system was lost three years ago. They still had their powers so what was the point of all this.

No one took notice of my pain. It was easy to understand but they just didn't care. For them it was the mere thought of having a system that mattered. 'Shit, I hate everything.' I thought. The steps had gotten closer. Something hit me in the head and I fell down. I could feel the blood flowing from the wound. Crawling on the ground, I tried desperately to get away. If it wasn't for the trees nearby I probably would be dead. I crawled a bit and stopped. It had dawned on me finally. I wasn't going to survive. I was definitely going to die. I turned around and looked at the beautiful sky with several stars glowing. It really was beautiful when you stopped to look at it. Very soon, the mages with detection magic would find me.

I decided to try 'that' one last time and called the system. A blue interface appeared on my retina and yet I could still see the sky. I smiled. It was still the same.

[System Interface]

Name: Chad Simmons

Skill: Inherent talent (Currently sealed)

"I found him!" Someone shouted. It was the same person who found me initially. I heard steps coming closer but didn't look. I was way too concussed to care. Soon a figure was standing over me. He was young. A little younger than I was, probably in his early twenties and yet, he was about to murder me. A slight cackle escaped my lips. He was holding a sword to my chest with a determined look.

I was then saw it. It was barely noticeable but his hands were shaking. It somehow gave me a bit of solace. The sword was raised up. I closed my eyes and awaited the split second pain that would end it all. After what seemed like ages, the pain didn't come. In fact, all the pain in my body was gone. I slowly opened my eyes. I was in complete darkness. I even thought I hadn't opened my eyes yet.

"Wait, am I dead?" I asked myself. Could it be that he had killed me that quickly. I stood up in the darkness. I didn't know if this was the afterlife or something else.

[Took you long enough]

A heavy sort of metallic voice spoke taking me by surprise. I looked around but didn't see anyone.

"Who or what are you?" I asked.

[Now now, is that a way to treat your only friend]

The voice spoke again. It seemed to be coming from everywhere and yet nowhere.

"If you are my friend then show yourself!"

I felt something standing behind me and turned around to find something looking exactly like me standing there. I was bewildered. The only difference was that 'its' whole body was glowing.

"Are you me?" I asked, dumbfounded.

"Idiot, how can I be you if you are standing there." 'It' spoke in a normal but harsh voice.

"What are you, then." I asked feeling offended.

It grinned "I am your skill."

I almost burst out into laughter but decided against it. "If you are my skill then what's your name?"

'Well on the system I'm Inherent talent, so." It said now in a cheeky voice. This bastard was seriously beginning to annoy me. I thought for a while and decided to just go along with it.

"So, why am I here?" I asked.

"Because I wanted you here." 'It' said picking 'its' nose. "You were going to die, you know?"

I frowned. "Aren't I dead already?"

'It' shook 'its' head. The space distorted and I was standing beside the man with the sword about to enter the chest of my body on the ground. Time seemed to have frozen.

"Wow, so cool!" I exclaimed as it got dark again.

"I'll cut to the chase, you're here because you're ready to use me."

"That sounded extremely weird." I said.

'It' snapped its fingers. "Our time is up."

I was about to say something but a sort of force pulled me away. The system interface appeared in front of me.

[Skill 'Inherent talent' wishes to live]

[Will you accept skill's wish]

I couldn't say anything but the system seemed to know what I was thinking.

[Skill 'Inherent talent' has been unsealed]

I seemed to get lighter and felt an overflowing power within me.

[You have comprehended 'Final act']

When I opened my eyes I was standing and all around me was a bloody mess of dead bodies.
