Chapter 2 - A Spark of rebellion...

Looking down at my still bleeding hand I tried to keep quiet about what was going on. The anxiety of what was going to happen as soon as I got home was welling up in my throat. Then the silence was suddenly broken.

"Son, what were you thinking .... Sneaking out for some party", my father said looking at me through the rear-view window. I couldn't even hold his glance. For once my mother was silent with her disapproval. Mostly because we weren't at home where she could yell her head off. I didn't regret it though. For once in my life, I didn't feel like I was stuck like some prisoner. I finally got to experience what other teenagers get to do normally. I would never change the outcome if I had a second chance. As we pull up into the driveway, I try to make a run for it into the house before things get any more tense than what they are.

"Why would you ever do that?" my mother aggressively whispered at me whilst grabbing my arm. The mixture of emotions forming in the pit of my stomach started to reach my chest. Everything that I wanted to say to them started to pour out violently.

"You know why I did this. I'm tired of being locked up in this house with you guys. I'm sick of hiding from things that you guys are scared of." I said pulling my arm away storming into the house. I know I left my mother in shock by everything that I said because she stood in the doorway looking surprised. I doubt that she understands my point of view on this. My father on the other hand i feel like i could sense the guilt coming from him, but i could have just been seeing what i wanted to. I ran up the stairs slamming my door behind me for good measure, not even caring about the vague whispers I heard from downstairs.

." I don't get it…why can all my other friends have fun, but not me," i say changing into more comfortable clothing while nala watches. "Why do they always treat me like I'm a child. Like I'm so incapable of taking care of myself." My ranting stops as I hear the heavy footsteps of my father's shoes hitting the stairs. Dashing, I turn off the light and hop into my bed trying not to look suspicious. His long shadow reached under my door just standing there. I go over in my mind exactly what I would say if he opened that door, but after a few short seconds, the shadow moves away, and I'm met with a mix of relief and disappointment. A sigh leaves my mouth as I turn over and try to get comfortable to go to bed.

"Goodnight Nala." I say as I stare at the wall next to me drifting off to sleep after some time.

"Everette this way!! Quickly" an all too familiar voice shouts to me. Suddenly I'm engulfed in a nightmare. Running through a forest full of fire, the heat became too much for me. Turn after turn I see that shadow of a person ahead of me, staying out of reach every time I get too close. Then I hear a fatal snap, looking up I see an immensely large branch start to fall on top of me. Then suddenly darkness fills my sight until my body jolts back into reality. Checking the time on the clock I got out of the bed with a small huff. Seeing that I still have time to spare, I sit at my trusty desk and pull out my notebook. I start writing down the events that happened last night getting to a certain point the frustration starts to come back. I grip my pen and the cut on my finger starts to bleed again. Undenounced to me the heat from the night before came back but there was a spark. Putting the pen down I jumped up startled but brushed it off as a tired mind playing tricks on me. Checking the time again I notice I'm going to be late for school, so I rush to get some clothes on and feed nala before rushing downstairs and past my parents without saying a word. Still thinking about that spark, I walked to school wondering if it was real or if I was truly losing my mind. Suddenly I felt an arm around my shoulder, looking over I saw it was my friend Kaden.

"Hey sorry I didn't come to the party last night… my folks weren't very keen on me going out so late at night… Did you get in trouble?" he said with a more caring look in his eyes. I simply nodded, still thinking about what had happened this morning. Kaden must have noticed my mind was in another place right now and left the subject alone inviting me over to his place after school. Of course, I accepted not really wanting to go home right after school. As we reached the school, I knew that day was going to be the same as usual, though at least now I have something to look forward to. After classes I felt relieved as I thought about hanging out with Kaden. As I opened the door to the front of the school, I saw my parent's car out front, I guess I'm not even allowed to walk to and from school anymore? I decide to take the back exit to where the bikes are, given that Kaden does not live very far, I can walk to his place. So, after getting past my parents and making it to Kaden's place. I guess he understood what was going on, so he didn't even bat an eye.

"So, if you don't mind me asking…what's been going on with you today... You seem more quiet than usual." he said as we both dropped our backpacks near the door making a tripping hazard for anyone who comes in after us.

"Just got in trouble with my parents for sneaking out… then something else happened this morning". He gave me a look full of sympathy.

"I get it…my parents can be a bit overbearing too..come on we can go upstairs and take our minds off of it with videogames," he said, while ushering me
