A storm stays in Lunapolis, like a living person with resentment to the city. It continues to persist despite having been pouring for the last 24 hours. The streets are becoming flooded even with its best efforts to keep the water flowing elsewhere. Furthermore, the skies shows no sign of stopping, nor is it moving away. Then again, it is as if it is angry.
Tap, tap, tap--
Several leaks have been pouring inside the house of the two children. The young girl, using her powers made portals to throw the drops somewhere, keeping their house dry. The two kids hug each other to keep themselves warm. It was cold, in addition they haven't had any food since the storm began. The market was closed for the whole day, and she is unable to go fetch something for them to eat. The market is simply too far for her to go out without leaving her little sibling for himself.
"I-I should've took more..."
She thought to herself. The young girl starts to feel a tightening sense on her chest, and even more so when she felt her brother's stomach rumbling. Now weakened, his energy starts to fade as he feels his hunger growing. The kid has started to rely on sleep to let time pass by, something his body unconsciously learned by itself.
The young girl continues to ponder and regret her actions, but when she blinked her eyes she sees a familiar man standing before her. It was vivid, and only his figure remained in her memory. His face and his voice are all too blurry for her to remember, yet she remembers his words. She remembers the words what this man would say to her.
"Naomi...since when have you been stealing?"
"Since awhile ago, Dad. I-I can't help it, Nick and I need it..."
Her Dad gently lays his hand on her head and began stroking it like she remembered he would. Gently, and slowly.
Years has passed, something she wasn't able to keep track of when their parents died from an incident. They survived, nobody knew how but it was a miracle for others. Her parents however, their bodies had gashes all over their backs. Perhaps it was luck that the killer didn't notice them, or simply didn't care for them as they were not a threat.
A funeral was held for their parents and the two kids were taken in by their relative. Their aunt wasn't exactly in her mindset to be a parent of two, but she had to take them in. She would get angry when her brother cries, and though there was food, their lives were rougher than what most children in Lunapolis have. One day however, she found her brother crying loudly outside the apartment building, with a luggage of their clothes right beside him.
She didn't hurt the little kid physically, but that was no place for a kid his age to live. She thought to herself, resolving her determination to take it up for herself the role of a mother for his brother. The two kids went back to their old home, it has been ransacked and taken for what it could be taken for. Electricity was cut, and it was cold inside. Once the house that radiated warmth and joy now stands lifeless, like their parents.
First it was a matter of shelter and then food. She first tried begging on the streets for food, hoping that a kind passerby would give them atleast something to fill their stomach for a day. It was harsh, cold and sufferable. There would be days where they would get nothing at all. Next, she tried scavenging for food on trash cans. It would surprise anyone how much food people waste in Lunapolis. It was good for awhile, till health became a problem.
However it is at this way she stumbled upon something life changing. A ring of power. Power to open the path for its wielder. It was perfect for Naomi, a kid that has encountered an insurmountable wall. Not long ago she started to pick up tricks to take food from the market, and little by little, provide what his brother needs, perhaps even indulge him on his toys. Nobody has caught her, and she made sure no one will. She studied how her ability worked and acted with it. Although, only a few days has passed and she has been feeling a presence near her, somewhere in the sky.
"Dad...is the heaven angry with me? I was just doing what I have to do."
The figure kneeled and hugged them both. Naomi could only tear up, she wants to cry but she had to bite her lip to stop herself. Not in front of her brother, not when he needs her to be strong.
"I'm sure they will forgive you. Your guardian angel, they're always with you. Whoever they are, they would understand what you need to do."
A womanly voice uttered. She approached the two kids and sat beside them, and spread her arms around them. It was a figure she remembers vaguely as well, her mom whom have also died. She was warm and knew exactly what to say, just as Naomi remembers.
"M-mom...Dad? I miss you all. I'm sorry, I turned out like this and Nick...he's suffering so much because of what I chose."
Naomi starts to remember every single memory she had with her family. The times they've laughed together while watching a show in TV. It was a comedic quiz show they would always watch when it aired on weekend. The sad ones where she cried and had to be consoled. Her ice cream fell to the ground, it was even her favorite flavor; strawberry. The day she first saw her baby brother and how excited she was to be a big sister. Their time when they were shopping at the mall for clothes, and how their Dad always had a nervous smile whenever they enter a boutique. How she pouts when her Mom doesn't let her win with the game they're playing.
"I'm sorry Naomi, me and your mom had to leave you early. I wish we could be there for you. Please...grow up to be kind and helpful."
Naomi remembers the day everything changed. Her parents, having lost their strength collapsed and fell on their kids. Even so they hugged their kids tight, to protect and leave their warmth to them one last time. Leaving only words of apology and a wish. Her brother, having fainted from the stress woke up with no memory at all of what happened.
"Dad! Mom! I'm sorry, sorry, I'm sorry hic--I! I've...I've been doing bad things! I can't do what you told me to!"
She cried, however she kept her tears suppressed and her voice muffled. Perhaps it was the rain, or the darkness, but she hasn't felt this lonely and hopeless before. One thing is certain, she haven't had the time to feel this way.
As if going along with her emotions, the storm only got stronger. The winds have started to pull the trees slightly, bending its upright body. Such winds have began to chip away what is left in keeping the roof of their house together and with one fell swoop, one section was taken away. Revealing their house to the elements. Interrupted by the sudden destruction of the roof, and the possibility of flooding increased significantly. Naomi was forced to wake up and steeled herself once again.
"I have to keep the water--kyaaa!!"
A loud thunderous roar echoed in the skies, and what was dark had light for a moment. The lightning sparked great feat to her heart and her breathing has ragged. That moment of weakness flooded their floor and now they have nowhere dry to sit onto.
"Excuse me...I'll be barging right in."
A figure appeared out of the sky. First their hood, then his body, and as he taps his foot to the wet flooring he fully manifested. His cloak was all white, and his hood hides his face as if it is being intentionally blurred. She can't make out any noticeable features on his face, but she knows it exists beyond the veil.
"The time for judgement has come. Tell me, what have you done with your power?"
Naomi's expression darkens as she realizes what this figure is. Punishment has come, she thought to herself.
"I...I stole food from the market. I've s-stolen many things. Mr. Angel, are you here to take me away?"
The young girl raised her little brother with all her might towards the figure. Slowly crawling towards the Executioner.
"Please, please let him have a good life. Take him somewhere he can live without me. Please! Before you take me away..."
Naomi begged and No.4 nodded. Relieved, she gently carried her brother in front of her and kissed his forehead.
"I understand, your brother will grow up and will have no need of you. Even so understand that your crime can't go unpunished."
Having seen the source of her power. The siphon of magic that converts that energy to warp reality. No.4 took her hand and took off the ring, before destroying it with the magic of his gauntlet.
"I'm sorry, Mom, Dad...Nick."
Naomi said her last words before fainting. The ring has been keeping her active by sharing the magical energy it has been collecting with her. But now that it has been destroyed, perhaps exhaustion has taken the young girl.
"Magic Revoked."
The Executioner uttered, completing his task.
