On the road back, Thalia was understandably quiet. It was a scary and unfamiliar version of Thalia who was in the car with Charles that day, and he was very worried about her. Nonetheless, he could also understand why she was like that. He would have literally broken into an emotional mess if his mother ever gave him that treatment.
Mrs Monic Thebes was a strange woman, in his opinion. She had turned her back on her only daughter because of her association with her boyfriend. Nothing could be done, though, for the pregnancy had invariably tied them together … for life.
