Chapter 6 - The powers reaction

While the noble council was gathering for an impromptu meeting other forces across Plymouth were already taking action

The centre of Plymouth is the most busiest district after the merchant district due to being where the grand castle of the city lord resides.

The castle has large walls with magic runes that regulate the castles environment. Stepping through the main gate is truly like stepping into a different world as all the smells and noise of the run down city centre disappears. A pebbled path leads across a large garden with a few birds singing in the trees.

Colourful flowers grow neatly around a natural looking artificial lake. A cool breeze lifts across the garden but it isn't chilly just refreshing.

The size of this garden alone tells how wealthy and important the owner is.

The size of Plymouth is a lot larger than cities we usually see. In Alderney cities have to have a population of over 1 million to be called a city, Plymouth just reaches the mark with 1.12 million residents.

Inside, a banquet hall that is only used for major events if not its used as the main board room of the city. There sits many powerhouses all across the city including Head of security Walt Anderson of the Anderson family, James Helios of Helio's house of commerce and of course James Olden the city lord of Plymouth.

Oldens spies who were sent to check on the cities noble council has just informed him of what has happened to baron Flicks son.

He knew what the nobles planned to do to the Flicks but in all honesty he did not care. He had met the prince once and knew that although he may seem generous he is extremely forgetful. He most likely have completely forgotten about the Flicks months ago and the nobles were already about to pounce.

What did it mean to him if some short lived lesser noble dies.

But now... everything has changed.

"Next on the agenda is how do we approach Jacob Flicks, son of Baron Flicks?"

"..."

Everyone looks at the city lord wondering who?

Well except Walt, who also had a few sweats running down his side as the city lord stares at him.

"Baron Flicks only son Jacob Flicks completed his woodwork advancement task this morning, although it's a shocker for a six year old to pass the test, it generally would not be needing such a debate.

However Jacob not only passed the task but had a platinum grade completion."

As the last word was uttered a serious of gasps and looks of disbelief spread throughout the hall. However the ones who looked the most interested were the two aforementioned, the merchant and head security.

James had a look of excitement planted on his face that quickly disappeared. The talent of a merchant too sniff out profit and to hide their true intentions was indeed impressive. Only the city lord was able to see through it.

On the other hand Walt was a series of chaotic emotions from worry that the city lord knows about his families assassination plans to worry if his uncle is getting in too deep. But ultimately he settled on anger, anger that this common brat is getting in the way of his plans.

Walts uncle had made a deal with him that he could not turn away from if he helped the nobles cover up the assassination, to make it seem as the Flicks died falling down the stairs or of food poisoning or something.

Now some little kid is getting in his way.

In another part of the city that is far quieter than the central district sits a large cathedral that shows glory but silence as ever. Opposite, in the little church, was another story.

Led by the head priest and priests of noticeable achievements were discussing the news they just gained from the noble district.

This was just shocking for them to see a platinum 6 year old carpenter.

but what worries them the most is the almost forgotten story of the boy being a priest to some unknown deity.

If word got out that the genius is priest of another god despite coming from a city controlled by Arsenia, it would be a slap in the face.

With the boy seen as a genius now, doing anything to the boy would get on the city lords bad-side.

Although it is well known that the church of Arsenia and the Catalan kingdom get along behind the scenes there is a major power struggle between the two founders of the kingdom.

Over 1000 years ago the land of Catalan was then ruled by the Lynic empire. The Lynic empire consisted of many races with the imperial family being from the Neko race.

The area, now known as Catalan, was known for being a human prominent area of the empire However some forces weren't happy with being under the control of a non-human. So long story short they revolted forming the Catalan kingdom.

The main three forces of the revolt were the church of Arsenia, The human nobles of Lynic and a strong warrior who proclaimed himself as the new king.

The 1st king of Catalan had many wives and even more children in his long life and becoming king did not stop the marriages and pregnancies. After 300 years of a somewhat peaceful reign he died in the bed of one of his many mistresses of old age.

The 1st king had a very promiscuous life banging anyone he could and died with over 2000 heirs that he never spoke to.

He didn't care about any of his children and believing he would forever be king he never proclaimed who would be next in line for the throne.

For the next 20 years the kingdom was going tooth and nail on which of his descendants should win.

In the end the church lost and all their chosen heirs died, they have never recovered from the blow of being against the current king despite it being almost 600 years ago.

As a result they do not wish to anger the city lord who has the backing of the royal family.

But the most infuriating part of this is that they can't convert Jacob.

The Catalan kingdom is very large containing over 50 cities under its control. the smallest of which has a population of just over a million with the largest with a population in the billions.

Despite this about a third of the population lived in small towns and villages scattered around the cities. In such a large area if you think Arsenia is the only go then you would be daft.

There are hundreds if not thousands of gods in Catalan mostly consisting of deities, fallen gods and demonic gods, but there are still hundreds of deities out there. Touching a believer of a deity without the backing of a strong god is like touching a hive of wasps.

To deities who are starved for believers trying to convert a follower can be seen as attacking a god. Many deities whose followers live in the territory of a higher god instead form a pantheon under the higher god for protection.

So if the church tries to convert Jacob without his gods permission he could be starting a divine war.

Despite all this, to the church it's just an annoyance. They know that if they observe Jacob and learn more about this deity they could proclaim him to be a demonic god and start a crusade against a nearby village, if Jacob dies in the conflict, oh well, accidents happen.

This wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.

On the bright side they knew the temple of Abraxes won't make any moves. The only time they heard the temple take an initiative was when they found a believer with saint potential, although that's just rumours.

In an underground cellar hidden somewhere in Plymouth a council of noble families are having their meeting.

At the head of the table sat Earl Richard Anderson, the noble with the highest authority in Plymouth. The man is old in his 120s even for most lower nobles this is old but for an earl he would be considered middle aged.

However Earl Anderson had only left Plymouth once before returning as such he lacks the healthcare and experience the other earls have so he is only suspected to live for another decade or two if he's lucky.

The reason why Earl Anderson returned to this backward city had been circulating the noble community in hushed gossip for the past 50 years.

Some say he Angered someone he shouldn't have, while others say he preferred the quiet life in his older years.

However they would never have guessed the truth, and that is, under his tough exterior lies fear.

Fear of change and the outer world, he grew up under his Mother the previous Earl never knowing his father only knows that he passed away leaving nothing but his title to his wife and enough money for them to live lavish lives in this run down city.

He always inspired to leave this city and find out how his father died and that's what he did when his mother passed on leaving him the sole heir.

He spent 5 years outside of Plymouth but came back in fear that he hides.

"Cough!... cough!"

"Enough with the chit-chat, let the meeting commence."
