Rhoda sighed helplessly but still said,
"I can see your mind is made up, but you must promise me one thing, if not I won't allow you take the test."
Benita didn't say anything she just stared at her mother. Rhoda took it as a cue for her to state her requirements.
"You must promise me that whatever the result is you will not do anything stupid to hurt yourself again. I can't bear to lose you."
"It's best she takes the test to keep everyone's mind at rest," Randy said, afraid that Rhoda would make Benita change her mind.
The "everyone's mind" he spoke about wasn't just referring to the Dawson family, but also himself.
He needed to find out if Killian was right about his subordinates character.
The rugged confidence with which he defended them at his office was still too much to the extent that he was almost swayed himself, but hearing Benita's side of the story he began to doubt again.
