Chapter 12 - Breaking in

A giant building that got Casement windows along the wall. It was tall enough that none could see the roofing of the square building. A steel gate linked to a tall stone wall stands between it and the road. This building is the Establishment-headquarters.

A night without the moon to light it up, the thick clouds covering the sky. Flora stood to the left of the gate, assessing the situation. She looks up at the wall towering over her. She takes a deep breath to calm her nerves.

Having calmed down, she creates vines in her hand, which shoot up toward the top of the wall, grabbing onto a metal spike. It pulls her up fast and over the wall before the spike snaps, and she falls into a bush on the other side. Near the main door to the building are two guards. One of the guards looks at the bush Flora fell in but doesn't see her. Flora had been covered in twigs and leaves, hiding her from their gaze.

"Hey, I think I heard something from over there." The guard said, pointing at the bush. The other guard lets out a sigh so large it feels exaggerated.

"Would you calm the fuck down already? It's probably just a squirrel." The other god said while lighting a smoke.

Despite the other guard's annoyance, he walks towards the bush but is stopped by the smoking one.

"It's just a squirrel. There has never been any break-in, and there never will." The smoking guard says in a stern voice. He's annoyed and tired. "If it weren't for the tribal meetings, we wouldn't even be here. All because that Wulgrim is a fucking worrywart."

An argument breaks out between them. The first guard felt anger towards the other, hearing his scornful comment on Wulgrim. They yell and get noisier, The perfect opportunity for Flora to sneak in.

Flora sneaks along the wall, passing the arguing guards. Other guards hearing the commotion, rush over there to stop them, leaving the front door unprotected.

"How can the guards be so lax." The thought came to Flora as she rushed to the door and snuck inside.

The room has three doors. One to the front, one to the left, and one to the right, all having two soldiers standing guard. Four smooth carved pillars are standing near the walls. A fancy ornate blue rug covers the floor.

Flora's hiding behind one of the pillars. She is looking around, trying to figure out any way past them. Finally, she finds an air vent near the door in the front. There it is, she thought as she made a seed in her hand. She tosses the seed, and it goes through the vent.

"Control it. Bring it through." She closes her eyes, trying to focus on the mana. She feels the cold steel of the vent as she moves it further through. Suddenly she feels a draft to its right indicating an opening. She moves her hand to the right in a fast movement, and with it, the seed blasts out of the vent and into the room, where it hits a table and bounces to strike a window going through it.

The glass pane shatters, making a sound. The guards standing outside the door rush to open the door while calling other guards to check for intruders. This was her chance. Flora runs to the left door while the guards are distracted and make her way into a long hall.

"The commotion is coming from the front," Flora heard coming further from within. Flora reacts quickly, shooting seeds at the ceiling that stick to it. They grew vines that go down and pull Flora upwards. Two guards run straight past Flora, not noticing her presence at all.

"Wait!" a guard in the far back yells. The two guards turn around and ask's what wrong.

"There is mana residue here. Someone has used magic here." Flora is sweating bullets. Has she been found out? But to her luck, the other guards turn it down, saying there are multiple sorcerers in the building. The last guard having his suspicions turned down, reluctantly goes along with the others.

The vines let Flora back down, and she runs along the hall. Finally, she sees it. The File-hall. A giant library of files that hold information on every sorcerer that has ever lived. If any place would have information on the NewGods, it's here.

Flora catches her breath. And decide to check Khuno first. She walks over to K and looks at every file that starts with Khu. But she didn't find him.

"What. That can't be right. Maybe I missed it." She said as she took a second look, but again she found nothing.

"This can't be right. What about Helios." She makes her way over the H. She Checks this time more frantically and found nothing.

"Vulcan then," she checks, V, and again she couldn't find anything.

"Kali!" Flora's voice got louder in frustration, almost yelling. She checks K, this time looking for Kali, anyone with a name even close. But she never found anyone with that name.

"This can,t be right. Have their files been removed? It's like they don't even exist. But they do."

Flora holds herself by the head, her frustration coming to a boiling point. Her eyes were getting teary from pure frustration. And she screams.

"Then why are they not here!"

The scream echo throughout the building. Guards ran into the halls where they saw Flora, their guns aimed straight at her. They yell at Flora to put her hands in the air. She screams in panic, the shock of the guards giving her grip back to reality. In a panic, she quickly shoots out vines from her hands which shoot past the guards. They Smash the window and grab onto the windowsill before pulling Flora towards it, tossing her through the garden and into a bush.

"What did I just do?"
