Zachery examined the insect carefully as he took a defensive stance to protect his daughter.
"Is it that-" Zachery kept his trepidation at bay as he attempted to ask Alexa a question. But Alexa abruptly cut him off.
[Yes, Devourers, that is one of the Beyond Race.] Alexa expressed her concern as she observed the bug. Not for herself, but for the sake of her host.
"Sigh," Zachery muttered, his gaze fixed on the bug.
CLICK
As he heard the clicking sound, Zachery squinted his eyes. That click sound was all too familiar to him. Despite the fact that the click sound was scarcely discernible at 30 to 35 Hz. Because of his trauma, Zachery could hear the clicking sound clearly.
Zachery kept an eye on the cockroach's trembling. He noticed something creeping inside the cockroach as it tortured the 'cockroach' from the inside out. The cockroach strained, trembling all over and attempting to clutch the wall.
The crawling inside became increasingly noticeable as the skin shuddered in front of the naked sight. The shuddering then abruptly stopped.
Then... even Zachery, who had seen all kinds of strange things, trembled.
The 'cockroach' abruptly had six spindly legs emerge from its body.
Its brutal but efficient evolution made Zachery wince. Zachery breathed a sigh of relief seeing that this devourer was at its evolutionary end.
Zachery knew he couldn't leave that 'thing' alone, even if it was reaching the end of its evolutionary cycle. The Devourers were one of the most terrible races in the Mother System.
Because, first and foremost, these Devourers could be born from nothing. Yes, devourers did not have an infant stage. They are only born with one directive.
Devour.
Zachery stood up and told Edda that he needed to use the loo immediately. He proceeded on when he noticed a couple of adolescents celebrating the Bloomsday of one of their peers.
Bloomsday was a day of celebration for those who had managed to awaken their powers.
Zachery went quickly towards them after 'accidentally' colliding with one of them. Zachery apologized to the teenagers who looked over at him. They simply laughed and moved on.
They all shifted their attention to the bloomed boy, a lovely young man with brown hair and blue eyes. The bloom guy returned his attention to his cake as he tried to cut his cake again, but...
"Hey, where did the knife go?"
Zachery moved as he swirled the knife in his hands and looked at the devourer with a hint of bloodlust.
Zachery's feet moved faster and faster and at the same time, he looked at his surroundings, nodding his head as he confirmed that no one was paying attention to him.
Zachery clamped his hands around the knife. He kept his mana under control and ignored the discomfort as the devourer approached the vent quickly.
If the cockroach had passed through the vent. The devourer would go away.
That would not be acceptable to him.
Mana rushed through his veins as Zachery hurled his knife with pinpoint accuracy in a single fluid second.
Zachery's hand moved so quickly that the throw was like a whip.
The cockroach used its blade-like legs to sprint towards the vent as rapidly as it could.
[Mana: 100%-->80%]
*SHRING*
The knife hit the cockroach in the middle just as it was about to enter the vent, ending its life.
[A beyond race killed.]
[Your level is not enough complex to rise beyond race. So it is compensated by XP
[50 XP Earned]
Zachery sighed as he realized the cockroach was no longer alive, and he smiled as he realized how his Legacy operated.
He didn't kill this Devourer just to be nice. No, for all he cared, he'd grab his daughter and flee as soon as possible. However, he desired to put this Legacy to the test.
Even though he was a wonderful guy, he was looking for something else when he decided to kill this creature.
He wanted to see if this Legacy worked as he believed it would, and it did.
He took a step forward, leaped a little, and took the knife that was stuck in the wall, which led to the critter's corpse falling down to the ground. Zachery opened the door to the washroom and kicked the cockroach's corpse inside.

Zachery nodded and willed his mind to use 10 EXP into the level bar, filling the EXP bar.
[Level 0 --> Level 1]
There was no stark difference between levels 0 and 1, but Zachery could feel that his body and soul had a very small difference of improvement from before, but the difference was so negligible that it was hard to notice.
He again pulled up the status screen to see the EXP needed for the next level.
[Level 1(EXP:- 0/50)]
Zachery nodded his head as he moved out of the washroom, confirming that the corpse of the Devourer was really dead.
He smiled when he saw Edda anxiously waiting for him to take a spoon of the chocolate cake. His heart warmed when she smiled spotting Zachery coming out of the washroom.
----------------------
"Hey, do you want to do anything else, birthday girl?" Zachery had left Edda on top of his shoulders as Zachery walked slowly toward his house.
"Haaaa, No, I just want to sleep," Night was coming and Edda was feeling tired. Zachery also understood her, today, it had been a roller coaster ride for Edda due to his partial incarnation.
So, she was emotionally spent. And the day was nearing night, closing in at 8:30 PM. So, it was understandable that Edda was tired and wanted to sleep.
She had already started dozing off using Zachery's head as a pillow. Zachery chuckled as he looked at Edda sleeping on his head.
He picked up his pace and reached his home without any shenanigans happening. He tucked Edda into his bed because he only had one and sat beside her.
'Alexa, where is the blue artifact that I gave to you.'
