Chapter 7 - Vanta Vs Letto (1)

The alley has a narrow space. With only the width of an arm span of an adult, they tried to fight disregarding their unconvinient space

Vanta brought them there to tell them his secret but also to demonstrate his newfound power to his friends.

"There's a lot to explain, it's best just to demonstrate it," he said.

He took a sprinting stance and crouched. "That's why… let's duel!" he declared.

He blasted off with immense speed, springing from his position in an instant and sprinting towards Letto.

With detection magic, Letto was able to sense that the membrane Vanta talked about was also enhancing his physical capabilities, such as strength and speed, allowing him to perform incredible feats. In a single breath, Vanta appeared in front of him.

Letto didn't flinch despite the sudden approach that happened, instead he stayed in his position, stood by in the same place and smiling confidently as he had already cast a defensive buff spell to guard him from physical attack. As he expected, Vanta threw a punch right at his face, and he allowed the fist to hit him. When it was almost making contact with his face, a green layer of barrier that was covering him blocked the attack, preventing it from going any further on his face.

There was a force field protecting Letto's face. he smirks with pride when he knows that Vanta still fairly weak compared when he wasn't able to use magic.

"This is 'Body effulgent of Beryl,' or beryl wall for short. A staple among many cards that are currently used by duelists. Can you break it? What does your membrane thing do better than what I already have in my deck? If you want to become a duelist always rely on their cards. Not some suspicious books from an unknown vendor," Letto said.

Letto's heart raced as he watched his friend Vanta with a mixture of fascination and concern. Vanta had always been the smartest and most clever among them, but this new magic he was using seemed far beyond anything Letto had ever seen before.

"What are you doing?" Letto asked, unable to contain his curiosity.

Vanta's voice trembled with excitement as he replied, "I'm using a new way of magic that I've discovered. It's like nothing you've ever seen before. I just need to show you."

As Vanta focused on the membrane covering his body, Letto couldn't help but be mesmerized by the way it changed shape according to Vanta's will. Suddenly, without warning, Vanta punched Letto in the face. Letto was shocked to see the membrane around Vanta's hand turn rigid and solid upon impact, as hard as a diamond. If Letto hadn't used his own magic to protect himself, he would have been knocked unconscious by the blow.

As he regained his composure, Letto couldn't help but wonder what other incredible feats Vanta's new magic could accomplish.

Letto had always been fascinated by the versatility of magic, but Vanta's latest discovery left him even more intrigued. The membrane, when soft, had the ability to absorb magic, but when hardened, it could be used as a formidable weapon. The simplicity of the magic made it all the more effective.

But what puzzled Letto was the sheer excitement and anticipation that he saw in Vanta's eyes. He knew that Vanta loved powerful magic, but this seemed different. There was a new energy around him now, like a sense of purpose that couldn't be put into a word.

Letto's mind raced as he tried to come up with a solution to counteract the membrane's spell absorption capabilities. But before he could even begin to formulate a plan, Vanta was already on the offensive once again. With a swift hand gesture and an incantation, Vanta conjured a sinister spell known as the "Wicked Tracer".

The air around Letto grew hot as a small, creeping fire fuse came to life and began to slowly advance towards him. The wicked tracer moved like a malevolent serpent, slithering across the ground with deadly intent. Letto could feel his heart rate quicken as he tried to dodge the creeping flames, but the tracer relentlessly followed his every move.

It was a harrowing sight to behold - a tiny, seemingly innocuous firework that was anything but harmless, slowly inching closer to its prey. Letto knew he had to act fast if he wanted to avoid being consumed by the wicked tracer's deadly flames.

Mizar who's watching from the sideline was surprised when he saw this. His eyes widened when he recognized the spell that Vanta had used against Letto. "It's Wicked Tracer!" he exclaimed. "I learned it from Mr. Axel! It's a tier seven fire magic that requires a lot of mana. How can Vanta use it?"

Ridley was also shocked when he heard that statement. He couldn't believe what his ears had heard. "What? Tier seven?! Is it that strong? Why have I never seen it being used before?" such a powerful spell existed could be casted and learned by a beginner mage.

"It is powerful, but it comes with a price. It is extremely slow. Although it does follow its target, the speed at which the spell is moving is far too slow to even reach the opponent. As a result, the spell became useless when used against an opponent due to its extremely slow speed. But I think Vanta has now made it his winning condition - to make Letto touch the

"Wicked Tracer""

"Wait… It can't be!" Mizar came to a realization.

They now realized what Vanta's real plan was. He had lured his friend into coming to this small and narrow alley to challenge them to a duel. In this place, it was easier for him to devise a plan that could defeat a stronger opponent.

Letto also knew this the moment Vanta used the Wicked Tracer. He planned to make this a battle of attrition. They both had seemingly impenetrable defenses and a huge supply of firepower. But Vanta had the advantage of infinite resources. No one knew how long he could hold up the membrane magic, while Letto's cards were almost all single-use and would eventually be depleted once he used them all in this duel.

Vanta's plan was to either win by the Wicked Tracer or by forcing a deck out on Letto. That was a really brilliant plan coming from him. But Letto came prepared. He knew Vanta had some kind of plan, and he also had a strategy of his own to deal with this.

By using ongoing haste, he could continuously increase his speed for a certain period of time - thirty minutes. He was able to do a quick draw from his deck to replace and replenish his empty hand with a new set of cards.

A new set of five cards was placed in his hand. With a quick glance at them, he already planned his next move.

"Is it true that it is limitless?" Letto questioned what Vanta had said.

The alley was too narrow for him to use a bursting and explosive spell. Earth attributes and winds were also not going to be able to be used effectively in such a small place. Perhaps this was also Vanta's plan all along. There must be some weaknesses, a catch to this seemingly too good of a magic.

Vanta wasn't supposed to be able to use magic at all since he lacked the ability to channel mana from his inner core. But now look at him he was going toe-to-toe with a seasoned duelist. This was something Letto wouldn't believe if he didn't see it himself. It was the right decision that Vanta had decided to go for a sparring instead of trying to explain what had happened to him.

Letto's heart raced with excitement as he prepared for the ultimate showdown. The thrill of the duel had consumed him, and he was determined to savor every moment. His palms were slick with sweat as he surveyed the five cards in his hand, each brimming with elemental power.

With a deep breath, he activated all five cards at once, unleashing a barrage of fiery spheres, watery torrents, and spinning winds upon his opponent. But Letto wasn't done yet - he also conjured an orb of pure energy and a bullet made of solid stone, launching them both at Vanta with a fierce determination.

The air crackled with the power of the five elements as Letto watched in satisfaction as his projectiles closed in on Vanta. This duel was far from over, but Letto was ready for whatever his opponent could throw at him. With a grin, he braced himself for the explosive clash that was about to ensue.
