"Is everything okay?"
I'm relieved when Will comes over to check on me.
"What did you think, that I'd harm my daughter?" Simeon sneers, as if that's not exactly what he did a year ago.
Will doesn't dignify that with a response. He simply places his coat on my shoulders. "We're leaving."
I'm happy to. Simeon looks at me meaningfully, a subtle reminder of what we just discussed.
"He didn't try to coerce you into anything, did he?" Will asks, looking like he'd leap back to the backyard and shoot Simeon if my answer is yes.
"I didn't give him the chance."
When we get home, the first thing I want to do is hug Tiana and forget about Simeon's antics for a while. By the time I get to her, however, Esteban already has her in his arms and is spinning circles, making the little girl giggle happily.
"There's my cute daughter. I missed you."
"Daughter?"
