Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Cross Roads

"What's happening here, Jones?." Lana asked with all seriousness in her tone.

Mr. Jones. sensing this knows it's better to hit the nail on the head than beat around the bush now.

"We have a new manager, Ms. Lana" Jones said and dared to stare at Lana's face while saying it.

Lana's glares at Jones for a few seconds trying to process what she just heard.

"You know Mr. Jones, I appreciate your sense of humour but right now isn't the right time. What's going on in here? Why are there cameras and reporters? Did you schedule to shoot a documentary without informing me? What in the world gave you that authority, Jones? She said being so serious and furious.

"I at least expected that, but this is not a documentary shoot. Our new manager is being unveiled by...

"Cut the crap Jones, you've crossed the boundary. Stop trying to cover up for your mistakes with lies. You know what? We are done. You have been relieved of your duties with immediate effect, I'll call the lawyer and we will work on the termination terms. Have a nice day, Jones and don't bother calling to explain, I won't pick". Lana says and walks towards the conference room where the new manager was still being interviewed by the reporters. Jones looks on in disbelief. She didn't even let him explain a thing. Though, her father might reverse the decision but he's not sure Lana would want to work with him again.

"Enough" Lana interrupted the press immediately she walked into the conference hall. Everyone in the room looks on surprised at the uninvited interruption.

"Ma'am, you're interrupting the interview..." The Press Manager tries to get through Lana but she's not having any of it.

"Excuse me, I run this place, you don't talk to me about interruptions, okay?" She replied as cold as she would in any situation like this one.

"Now..." she turns to the audience. "Someone better explains what the hell is happening here or else, you are all getting a lawsuit in the morning".

Everyone is unsettled with the disruption and threat. They start murmuring.

"Ma'am, you must be Chairman Steve's daughter, I'm Aaron, your new manager." Lana heard the familiar deep and husky voice behind her. She turned to see who and was swept off by the sight of Aaron. He extended his hand for an handshake but was coldly ignored. She walked right past him and straight to the Press Manager.

"What is the meaning of this? Who planned this?

"I'm sorry ma'am if you were not informed, but Chairman Steve planned and organized this event. Don't worry about the costs, he already settled everything". The Media Manager said with a satisfied look.

"What? Did dad do this? Did the Board of Directors organize meeting without me? She thought within herself confused and in need of answers. But the people to get answers from are not here. Her dad and Chairman, Board of Directors is too weak to walk and probably just lying on his bed. The Trustee and her PA, Jones got the sack just under an hour ago and the new manager... Wait, Aaron is not new. She's seen him before, but don't just remember where. "Why did the board hire him?" She thought within herself but soon snaps out of her thoughts.

"Whatever, I wasn't informed about this, and won't let this continue. We will get to do this another time when I've gotten all the details. Thank you, you may all leave". She said in her normal Lana self and walks off to Aaron leaving the press, media and the everyone that was present in complete awe.

"If I'm not mistaken, you're must be the new Manager. I don't remember the name but it doesn't matter, cause your services won't be needed. If you need a ride back home. I'll call one of the drivers and you'll be taken home safely." She said with a wicked smile and walks off leaving Aaron completely shocked and embarrassed. One down, two to go.

AARON'S APARTMENT

Aaron paces back and forth his living room. It's been three hours since he came back from the most regrettable outing of his life. "Never in my life has any woman disrespected and embarrassed me like that wench did earlier". Aaron said to himself and clenched his teeth. He falls to his couch, Close his eyes and hopes when next it opens, things go back to normal and everything that happened is but a dream. Things didn't go back to normal though as Aaron had hoped, he was still stuck in the sad reality. "Damn it, this is so annoying" Aaron remarked. "I'll make her pay for undermining me Infront of the reporters like that"

"Wake up, life doesn't always go as planned, you're not even 10% rich as her. Get a life and stop whining. I told you not to accept that job remember?" Aaron's younger brother, Leo chirped in after hearing enough.

"That old man really called me with sincerity that, that her bratty daughter is changed...'

"He called you so you could get embarrassed by her daughter, ta-da. That's what you get when you don't listen to your brother." Leo said and left Aaron in his thoughts. "If you want to play baseball, I'll be at the Court" He said his last words before closing the door after him.

"I should have listened to Leo this time" Aaron said and picked up his phone from the couch and dialed Mr. Jones' number. "Those old men really owe me an apology".

DOUBLE LAKE HEADQUARTERS

What a day it has been for Lana. She's alone in her office after a very intense day. From the Camera sets scene in the company to Mr. Jones getting sacked to learning her Dad hired a manager she barely knows. "Wow, what next now?" She asks herself hoping answers can be thrown at her from above but she didn't get any. "I'm sure dad have heard about what has happened today either from Mr. Jones, the Press Manager or from both of them. But he hasn't called yet and I'm not calling him too, he will blame me for ruining his arrangements. I'll go and meet him after work" She affirms herself. "I don't want to have that conversation on the phone".

Ever since that tragic car accident that claimed her mother's life but spared her and her father, Lana has always loved and cared for her father. Their bond grew stronger and stronger each year when they remember her late mother. He gave her hope and courage, love and support and everything she ever needed from a parent. "Poor Dad, I can't even get mad at him. He must have been so worried about me" She tries to side her father. "But still, he shouldn't have hired a manager I barely even know without informing me, and what naive mind will accept an offer from an employer without meeting up with all its executives. He really is an opportunist". Lana said, now venting her anger towards Aaron.

"glad I got rid of that gold digger" She said, satisfied with how she treated Aaron.
