And the rumors that have been flowing around recently, coupled with what they had witnessed.
'Someone really got Miss Makima?!'
But the two got into the car that was waiting for them, without knowing what the people who saw them thought. They made their way to a big clothing store in the heart of Tokyo—one that was empty.
"Did you reserve the place or what?" Adam asked looking around the empty aisles. There was no one here aside from a few employees who were busily running around to get a few things, and even they didn't approach the two.
"Something like that, I didn't want others to interrupt us here. So, we can take our time looking through the clothes." Makima said while picking up a black turtleneck from the shelf, "Do you want to try this on?"
"Hmm, it is in my size, so no problem," Adam walked towards the changing room after taking it from Makima who waited for him outside, and walked out after putting it on quickly.
"The quality seems rather nice… like they washed it already?" He muttered it appeared like this shop didn't follow the normal procedure, or it could be that someone interfered.
"It looks good on you, black suits you, and fitting clothes do show your muscles more naturally," Makima said while tapping her chin, her eyes were looking at his body, examining every small detail.
"It does suit me a little, but because of my hair I go with lighter tones on top," Adam said while looking in the full-body mirror outside, he did like the look but had his reservations.
"This seems more natural to me, also how about you try this on?" Makima came back with a brown overcoat and pants.
"Isn't this too formal for a drinking party?" Adam asked and she shook her head.
"Most of us will be dressed in our work clothes, so it is not a problem. Also If you don't like this, it is fine to wear what you want, and I think this will suit you well. If it doesn't we can look through more options." She had the same smile on her face, so it wasn't easy to read her intentions. But at least she seemed genuine about her approach, that is why he didn't question it.
"I'll just wear this," Adam took the clothes from her hands and walked inside the changing room to try it on.
But as soon as he entered the changing room, he noticed something.
"How does she know my body measurements?" It was a curious thought since not only the clothes in his hand. All of the clothes in this shop were of his size.
This indeed gave rise to many questions, but it was something Makima would do without batting an eye. As for the question as to why she knew his size? Adam decided to not think about it too deeply. After all, they weren't exactly normal people so such a simple level of observation was normal, and even expected.
'It does look good on me, so I am not complaining,' Adam stared at his reflection before walking out.
"Hmm, it looks better than I thought it would," Makima also appeared pleased, she straightened the coat a little and circled him a few times just for good measure.
"That settles this then," Adam was happy that he wouldn't have to spend too much time trying out clothes. But even if the outfit for today was chosen, Makima didn't intend on stopping.
'The party must've already started…' Adam sighed.
Makima ended up making him try several clothes of her choice from all over the shop. All of them were bought without any sense of reservation, and they were being delivered to her house as of this moment to be placed in his wardrobe.
Currently, they were in a car that was taking them to the bar where the party would be held. And Adam was looking out of the window to see the colorful evening atmosphere of Tokyo. It seemed way more vibrant when compared to the modern times somehow, with signs of various established gleaming at night inviting the passersby inside.
"Let's go, Adam, we have arrived," Makima tapped on his shoulder to get his attention when the car stopped, they had arrived at their destination.
Makima was wearing her normal white collared shirt and black formal pants, but today the overcoat was different. It was similar to the one Adam was wearing right now, and she looked very pleased with how it turned out.
"Hopefully they don't make too much of a fuss," Makima said while looking at the bar, but she knew that it would surely happen once they went in. There were some people inside who just loved to make a fuss.
"Hmm, you did tell them that I was coming right?" Adam asked stepping out of the car.
"I was supposed to? They will be thankful that I decided to drop by, so I don't need to tell them about it." Makima said. There was no reason for her to tell them. After all, they'll accept it without any questions since it was her.
"Can't argue with that," Adam sighed, she was the higher up and that came with privileges. So, there was no doubt that the people inside would not even question, and it was true for the most part…
"Ah, Makima-san you came… and hello?" As soon as they entered the booked room, some of the guys looked at Adam in confusion. It was because they had never seen him before, and the fact that he came in with Makima only increased their confusion.
'Is he like a higher-up or an important guest?' If that was true then they'd need to be more careful with their behaviour, especially since…
"He is my guest. Do you have a problem with that?" Makima asked in her usual tone.
"Oh, not really, if he is Makima-san's guest then we have no problem," And the other went back to drinking again, as she had said they weren't bothered by his presence and just accepted the situation.
"Let me grab your coat, Adam," Makima who already removed her attention from them, took off Adam's coat alongside hers and hung them on the rack. This action went unnoticed by most of the people in the room because they were trying to ignore it.
'Well, some of them look more curious than others,' Adam thought noticing four of them gawking at him, they were looking at him with such intensity that it could hurt. The first three continued to stare.
"Another horse sashimi!!" While the fourth one noticed that her food was gone and became focused on that like the rest were with alcohol.
"Who are you? Why are you with Makima? Why did she take your coat? I want her to do that for me as well." As soon as Adam sat down, a barrage of questions was thrown at him by the boy with blonde hair.
"I dunno, maybe wear a coat next time? but I doubt that'll help," Adam said and the boy looked at his own body then frowned.
"I don't have a coat, and why will it now work? You picking a fight?" He looked so focused on this that it was almost funny to Adam.
"Not really," Adam shrugged, but it seemed that the boy was not done with his questions.
"Hey, don't distract me, answer the questions wh-" But before he could ask them Makima turned to look at him, and there was no trace of attention she had for him before.
"What are you doing Denji?" She asked causing him to freeze in place.
"M-Makima… I was just…" Denji's words didn't come out because he was still on the receiving end of the stare.
"Miss Makima, I do not like to say something twice, so do not get it wrong again."
