Chapter 1 - Into Chaos

Kusanagi Tsurugi was just a normal everyday teenager, he never particularly found himself special in any way. Aside from being born into a family with multiple members who were once or are a part of the military, he himself was just your everyday teenager.

Yet despite his normality, he had somehow found himself here standing at the center in some utterly massive and grand-looking circular room. The room itself was made of some unknown white and gold material, and the roof rose to an undescribable height beyond Tsurugi's vision.

However, the most captivating thing was the people present. Each floor within this room of endless height was filled with countless entities, all of whom were, for whatever reason, all staring down at him with eyes full of intentions he didn't know.

Tsurugi wanted to look around at them all, but soon found himself frozen in place as another entity unlike the others materialized in front of him. Appearing in the form of a humanoid mass of pure endless power, Tsurugi honestly couldn't describe what he was seeing.

〖We welcome you to the Divine Hall, Kusanagi Tsurugi〗

Tsurugi tried to speak up, but found it impossible.

〖My apologies, it slips my mind sometimes how fragile the mortal mind can be〗The being voiced, but held no signs of superiority in their tone despite the nature of the sentence.〖This should allow you to properly speak now〗

The dazzling lumination around the entity seemed to dim ever so slightly, but that minuscule change seemed to be enough to allow Tsurugi to regain control of his body. He breathed heavily for a second before gulping as he looked forward at the entity.

〖I believe you deserve an explanation. But first of all, it is only proper etiquette that I introduce myself. You already know who I am, in fact, I go by many names. Jehovah, Yahweh, Brahman, The Tao, Khaos, and so many more. My actual name is ▇▇▇▇〗

As soon as that final word was heard, Tsurugi winced heavily as a massive spike of pain flashed in his head. It took a few seconds before he shook his head to rid himself of the pain before looking back up.

If it was any other person, they probably would be screaming in doubt right now. However, Tsurugi was a much more accepting person. Given the current situation, he honestly wasn't really surprised this all was due to the works of the gods.

'In any case, so this 'person' is the biblical god himself? Actually, sounds more like Yahweh is a small part of this god...' Tsurugi thought to himself as he stared at the humanoid mass of energy in front of him. Guess the idea that God has no true form is probably true. "... Why am I here exactly, my lord?"

〖As expected of you, Kusanagi Tsurugi. Despite the situation, you are capable of thinking rationally and adapting to the situation. To answer your question, we are all gathered here to make a request... a request for your assistance〗

"My... assistance?" Tsurugi muttered softly before a look of doubt flashed across his face. "I'm sorry for doubting you, my lord. But do you really need the help of someone normal like me? You're all-powerful, if I'm not mistaken. I have nothing to contribute to someone of such status."

〖That very well may be the case usually, but when it comes to the current grand scheme of things, mortals such as yourself are the only ones who can help us. I can understand your confusion, so allow me to explain further〗

Raising their right hand, Tsurugi watched as projections of different screens began hovering in the empty space above the floor of the room. Alternating his gaze between each screen, Tsurugi was able to identify a number of locations each screen depicted.

Aside from the ones he was familiar with, there even appeared to be screens showing outer space and images of entirely other planets altogether. However, there was one thing that seemed to connect them all together...

"Tokyo, London, Sydney, Seoul... these are the recent monster attacks."

While it may sound utterly insane, the world had gone into a temporary state of disarray when strange rifts began to appear around the globe. Monsters only described as horrific fantasies had begun to attack the world.

No one knew why or how it was possible, just that it somehow was. However, the attacks only lasted for an hour at most, before which all of those invaders miraculously disappeared from the world as if they never existed.

The damage they did, however, was just as real as it appeared. Multiple cities had already suffered immeasurable amounts of damage and should currently be in the process of recovery, and not to mention the damage when it came to the population.

〖You are very well aware of the recent invaders. Those creatures breached our existence from another, and they have only been destroyed thanks to the quick reactions of the gods present here around you〗

Tsurugi opted to stay silent, but he did glance around the room at the countless eyes staring down at him. He had been wondering who these silent entities were, and it turns out that they were all other gods.

Soon enough, the hovering screens soon shifted before displaying a number of cities that Tsurugi was not at all familiar with. He was no master of geography, but he was pretty certain he had never seen or heard of cities like the ones on the screen, especially considering how big they looked.

〖What you see is the humanity present in the world neighboring ours. Just like you, they have experienced attacks from those invaders. The difference is that those in that world have been dealing with them for over a century now〗

"Another world...? So, basically another universe or something?"

〖That is one way of thinking about it. To be more accurate, it is better to say that we and that world are separate narratives. Each with its own countless universes, its own people, its own... gods〗

The screens switch once again, this time showing humans who were all wearing their own unique styles of clothing, armor from what he could. They were all fighting back against the monsters, and he even saw some of them shooting things like fire and ice.

〖The gods of that world have blessed a majority of their occupants with special powers, powers that vary depending on the god or goddess that blessed that respective person. However, that is all they have done. They give no guidance, no explanation as to what the mortals have to do to stop the invasions. They simply give their blessings and lie in wait...〗

"...I don't mean to be rude, my lord. But... what does that have to do with us?" Tsurugi looked down a bit as he said these words. "If the gods of that world wish to, in a sense, watch their world crumble away, what business does that have to do with ours?"

〖We can understand your point, Kusanagi Tsurugi. In fact, we all agree with you. Normally, we of this world would pay no mind to another, we have no right or reason to interfere. However, things have changed〗

"You mean the monster attacks in this world? Do they have some relation to the ones happening over there?" Tsurugi asked, though immediately seemed to widen his eyes in a sense of realization. "Unless...!"

〖It seems that you have caught on. Those recent outbreaks of extradimensional invaders are due to entirely because of that other world. Due to that world's deities and their negligence, that world had the weakest vitality and was much easier for those invaders to attack compared to ours〗

Once again, the screens above Tsurugi shifted again to now show the images of what looked to be countless cylindrical shapes scattered around an empty space. Tsurugi was confused by what he was seeing, but thankfully ▇▇▇▇ soon gave an explanation.

〖What you see are the countless worlds out there, ever-expanding. The one at the center of the screen is ours, and the one closest to us is the other world currently under attack. After being under attack for over a century, those invaders have started using the close connection our world has with the other to breach into ours〗

"In other words, the other world is the backdoor of sorts to ours?"

〖Indeed. If left unattended, the number of attacks will only multiply, possibly to the point that it's beyond even our control. That's why we have called you, someone who we can send to the other world and destroy the source of the problems〗

"But why me? That's what I want to know, my lord."

〖And you shall know. Despite being gods, there is a very small influence we can have on entirely different existences. It's an unspoken rule among the divine that one world's affairs have no meaning to another's, thus the influence that even the most powerful of deities have on other worlds is so small〗

▇▇▇▇ then pointed a finger toward Tsurugi.

〖However, there is a loophole of sorts. If the affairs of one world happen to influence another, the one impacted in sequence will have the authority to gain access to the former. While we cannot enter ourselves, we can send an influence of our power, an envoy... and that's what you are〗

"I think I understand everything now..." Tsurugi closed his eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath. Opening his eyes, Tsurugi looked back up at ▇▇▇▇. "I still don't why it's me specifically. There are many others more capable than I am. I am truly honored, but I still don't understand why it's me."

〖Simple, you fit the personality we need the most. Allow me to explain. There are better fighters than you, yes. However, none of them possess the great sense of duty that you do, not even your father. You yourself understand what must and has to be done, you understand that not everything can go smoothly and that actions that go against your morals sometimes must be taken... and most importantly, you can act on them〗

That was when ▇▇▇▇ went silent to allow Tsurugi to digest what he had heard. Despite how calm and serious Tsurugi looked right now, he was actually going through quite a storm of emotions.

He was both happy yet concerned, happy because he had honestly wondered what fighting monsters like that would be like, and concerned because he knew failure was paramount to the world practically going to utter shit.

Not like it wasn't already shit, but you get his point.

"I...accept. I accept to be your envoy!"

〖Then the contract has been decided!〗Immediately after hearing his answer, ▇▇▇▇ raised one arm up as the others who were all watching from above did the same as well.〖From this day forth. You, Kusanagi Tsurugi, will take on the title of the Envoy of Divinity. For that, great power shall be bestowed upon you!〗

Soon after hearing those words, Tsurugi looked down as his body was surrounded by a vast and dense aura of white and gold. While nothing changed about himself, Tsurugi could feel some incredible external force building up inside of him, it was nothing he could describe with words.

〖Listen closely, Kusanagi Tsurugi. Your mission is to prevent the destruction of our world, and the outcome of the other is...〗

"Inconsequential."

〖Indeed〗▇▇▇▇'s voice had a slight sign of approval, Tsurugi was honestly barely able to detect it.〖While a positive outcome would be preferred, just keep in mind that the outcome of that world is only a secondary objective. If the gods of that world wish to remain indolent, then so be it. We, however, will not. With our power by your side, we shall see you to victory〗

"You mean your power is with me? As in the power to control elements and more?"

〖While that isn't incorrect, you do not possess the capability at the moment. As I said before, we cannot influence ourselves much with another world even if given the authority to access it, we can only do so on a small scale and with restrictions. We have given you a great blessing, but it will be up to you to see its potential realised〗

"I understand." Tsurugi nodded his head respectfully before standing as tall as he could. "My lord, I am ready to leave whenever!"

〖Very well, then we shall proceed〗

With a snap of their fingers, ▇▇▇▇ created a rift of sorts that seemed to be cutting through space itself. Walking towards it, Tsurugi could only look at it closely with a look of deep intrigue on his face.

This wasn't the first time he saw rifts like this, but he hadn't ever seen them this close up before. It was understandable as the actual monsters that came out of said rifts were the main focal point of the attacks, not the rifts they came through.

〖This will bring you to the other side. Once you pass through, I myself have managed to utilize my power to, in a sense, rewrite that world's history. My alteration was very limited, however, and have only been able to secure you a place among its society. My apologies.〗

"That's more than fine, my lord. That in itself is already doing me a great favor, I will not disappoint you in this mission. Not you, or any of the other gods here."

〖I don't doubt that. I must warn you though, memories of your new place in that world will be forcefully placed into your existing ones. It will be a painful process, but please do endure〗

"In that case, if you don't mind me asking... why didn't you just send me to the other world and give those memories regarding that new life and the situation here?"

〖We gods prefer to do things properly. Along with that, we want to hear the acceptance of our potential envoy with our ears. Suddenly being transported without prior permission is not desirable. We want someone who was voluntarily willing to assist us, if they weren't we'd accept it and simply look for another〗

"I see... then I shall take my leave. Thank you for everything, my lord."

〖No, it us who must thank you〗▇▇▇▇ spoke as he gestured towards all of the gods gathered around up on the countless floors.〖To carry a heavy burden on your shoulders at such a young age is admirable. For that, we give you our gratitude〗

"Then I shall answer in kind."

Tsurugi smiled before turning to face the portal. He didn't know what truly was in store for him, but he knew that he'd just have to tackle it head-on as best as he could. Taking a deep beath, Tsurugi's eyes hardened before he charged through the rift, which soon closed behind as soon as he entered.

Watching as the rift closed, the deities in the Divine Hall all went silent, which was only broken when ▇▇▇▇ spoke a single sentence.

〖We await your safe return, Envoy of Divinity〗
