Chapter 40 - THE UNKNOWN VARIABLE

Karna closes the holographic screen on which he is watching the live launch and smiles, pleased with the public's response. He then asks the driver, "How much longer will it take?"

The driver replies, "Sir, just five more minutes. The captain said that due to the launch event, many people have gathered around the stadium, and it will take time to make a way."

"Okay." Karna places the laptop aside and looks out of the window. He sees the towering building of Maya standing proudly among the others. He smiles, but his gaze suddenly falls on a soldier who is looking in his direction. As soon as their eyes meet, the soldier averts his gaze.

Karna laughs at the soldier's reaction, reflecting on how times have changed. Once, no one even respected his presence. Now, no one dares to meet his eyes, out of sheer respect.

Lost in his thoughts, Karna sips his coffee and waits for the car to arrive at its destination. After five minutes, the car pulls up in front of the stadium. He can now hear the loud cheering of the crowd, a testament to his newfound fame as the most famous person on the planet, thanks to his game. Suddenly, he hears two knocks on the car door. Knowing it's his guards appointed by the army, he says in a low voice, "I am ready."

The car door opens, and flashes from countless cameras blind him momentarily. Grateful for his black sunglasses, he mutters to himself, "No wonder those stars wore these black glasses. I used to think it was just for fashion." He steps out and waves at the crowd. Still new to fame, Karna doesn't shy away from the overwhelming attention.

As he waves, the two soldiers assigned to him exchange glances and blink twice. They sneakily move their hands inside their coats in a manner that seems normal to others. Karna and the guards begin walking toward the stadium door. Inside the stadium, an announcement rings out, audible to the crowd outside:

"THAT WAS SOME SHOCKING NEWS...

GIVEN BY GOD PARBRAHMA... BUT IF YOU THINK THAT'S THE END OF THE SURPRISES, YOU'RE WRONG. BECAUSE ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE MADE BY NONE OTHER THAN THE CREATOR OF THE MYTH... THE OWNER OF MAYA COMPANY... AND THE CREATOR OF THE CREATION PLATFORM... SIR KARNA KHURANAAAAAAAAAA!"

Karna, still outside, smiles at the cheers erupting from both inside and outside the stadium. As he approaches the path lined with media personnel and soldiers, the two men nod to each other and shout, "Let this sacrifice of ours be seen by God!" With that, they throw off their coats, revealing bombs strapped to their bodies, and press the detonators.

(Time slows down. Everything unfolds in slow motion.)

Karna's eyes widen in shock and fear as he sees the bombs. The soldiers and crowd react similarly, frozen in terror with no time to act. No one notices the faint glow from Karna's bracelet, which dims as quickly as it appeared. Karna shuts his eyes tightly, thinking, "Why, God? Why? My life had just begun in this new world, and now you're taking it away from me."

He curses himself for not increasing the reality level of the manifestation and for neglecting precautions. As the terrorists press the buttons, a figure clad in black suddenly appears in front of Karna.

Before anyone can fully process the scene, the figure snaps its fingers. Two large bubbles materialize, encapsulating the terrorists. With another flick of the figure's hand, the bubbles shoot into the sky. A final snap follows, and the bombs detonate mid-air.

Before disappearing, the figure meets Karna's eyes, instilling fear in him. Then, as quickly as it came, the figure vanishes without leaving any trace.

(Time returns to normal.)

Pieces of flesh and blood rain down on the crowd, breaking the shocked silence. Soldiers quickly rush Karna back into the car, and the driver speeds away to a safe location. Chaos erupts as the panicked crowd starts running in all directions. Many people faint, leading to a stampede that claims numerous lives.

As the situation worsens, the army and police fire warning shots into the air to control the crowd. However, this only fuels the panic, as people mistakenly believe the authorities are battling more terrorists. In their desperation to escape, many trample over others, with small children among the casualties.

(Inside the VIP room)

As Chris updates everyone on the situation, Arjun and the others panic, hurrying toward the exit. Soldiers attempt to calm them, but they refuse to listen. Suddenly, a man named Rahul shouts, "Sir Arjun, please calm down! You can't go down there. The situation is already bad. Please don't make it worse!"

Arjun's wife, maintaining her composure, asks, "What is happening out there? Is Karna safe?"

"Yes, ma'am," Rahul replies. "Sir Karna has been saved by an unknown figure and is being taken to a safe house, along with other important leaders. We've also been ordered to escort you to a secure location. Please, sir, cooperate with us—it will make our job easier."

Looking into the eyes of the army captain, Arjun sighs and relents. "Thank you for saving his life. We'll discuss this later. For now, do you have any plans to stop the stampede?"

The soldiers exchange worried looks. Rahul hesitates before admitting, "Unfortunately, no. Everything happened so fast. The crowd is panicked and fearful, and they won't stop unless they feel secure in their hearts and minds."

Arjun turns to Priya and says, "I think she can help us. Her skill, 'Calm-Dream,' might work here."

Confusion spreads among the soldiers. Shaurya, Rama, Priya, and Kashyap nod in agreement. Priya speaks up, "Yes, that's a great idea!"

Rahul asks, "Sir, what skill are you talking about? And who is this person? Can they really stop the crowd?"

Arjun meets Rahul's questioning gaze and responds, "Don't worry—you'll meet her soon. Let's hurry before more lives are lost."

The soldiers, though skeptical, decide to follow Arjun's team, hoping they can achieve the impossible.

As they reach the stadium door, the scene is harrowing. People are running in every direction, some trampling over the bodies of those who've fallen. Priya gasps in horror, covering her face as she spots the lifeless body of a young girl, barely ten years old.

Arjun gently consoles her. "Hurry, Priya. Summon Vandevi."
