Chapter 19 - Refuse to Confess (19)

After listening to Bai Xiu's words, Bo Xiyun's expression remained largely unchanged.

He paused for a moment, then asked, "Besides that, is there anything else?"

Bai Xiu seemed a bit surprised by Bo Xiyun's calm demeanor. After thinking for a moment, he replied, "During self-study sessions, Teacher Yi always intentionally sits next to you. Additionally, the other classes also wanted to invite him to help, but he chose to stay only in our class. And during meal times, he often dines with you."

As Bai Xiu continued recounting, he mentioned some earlier events as well. "During a previous family banquet, Teacher Yi accompanied brother back home..."

At this point, Bai Xiu suddenly paused, realizing that he might have touched on a sensitive topic.

He hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—"

"It's alright," Bo Xiyun said calmly, not showing much concern about Bai Xiu's mention of his family.

He didn't mind Bai Xiu's slip of calling him "brother" earlier.

"You may have misunderstood," Bo Xiyun stated directly.

"Teacher Yi does take care of me, but it's just the care an upperclassman shows to a junior."

The phone vibrated, and Bo Xiyun didn't say much. He took out his phone and glanced at it.

It was Yi Zhongshen who sent the message.

Yi Zhongshen had some urgent matters to attend to, so he asked Bo Xiyun to wait at the school gate. He would come to pick him up directly to avoid delaying their mealtime.

Bo Xiyun packed up his belongings and prepared to leave. Bai Xiu accompanied him. As they walked out of the classroom, the entire corridor was empty and deserted.

It seemed like all the other students had already left the building, and the surroundings were quiet, with footsteps faintly echoing.

Bai Xiu called out, "Brother."

Bo Xiyun turned to look at him, finally giving him a reminder, "Brother?"

Bai Xiu let out a soft sigh and immediately corrected himself, "Xiyun."

He said, "Have you ever thought that you might just be giving yourself a suitable reason to like him?"

(Tn: Bai Xiu is doubting if Bo Xiyun is still in denial and he is just misunderstanding his own feelings.)

Bo Xiyun understood what Bai Xiu meant.

But he replied, "I don't feel that way."

Despite their differing views, Bo Xiyun became more certain of how much care Yi Zhongshen showed him, according to the unanimous opinions of his friends.

Then he has an obligation to clarify this matter and prevent misunderstandings.

Bo Xiyun said, "Because I have more than enough reasons for him not to like me."

Bai Xiu looked visibly surprised. "Reasons for him not to like you?"

While they were still talking, clear sounds of chatting suddenly came from not far away on the stairs.

The voices sounded somewhat familiar.

Bo Xiyun turned around and saw Xu Xinyi and another girl walking down the stairs, holding hands.

Xu Xinyi noticed the two of them and also seemed surprised. "Hey."

After exchanging greetings, they went their separate ways.

Once Xu Xinyi and her friend were out of earshot, Bai Xiu asked again, "What reasons did you just mention?"

Bo Xiyun didn't answer.

He realized that the soundproofing here wasn't that great. Although the building seemed empty, and the corridor was quiet, speaking here could easily be overheard by others.

Bo Xiyun had no intention of explaining to Bai Xiu, and now he was even less inclined to say more. He simply said, "It's a personal reason."

Bai Xiu could tell that Bo Xiyun didn't want to elaborate, so he didn't ask further.

After leaving the classroom, Bo Xiyun parted ways with Bai Xiu and went to the school gate alone.

Yi Zhongshen returned quickly and drove them to a place to have dinner.

After finishing their evening self-study session, they returned to the hotel together.

As usual, Bo Xiyun took a shower first and then started working on the competition questions. However, he didn't spend much time on them before setting the questions aside.

He wanted to check on how his senior was doing at the moment.

Even though Yi Zhongshen had already been to the hospital today, the treatment process would be a long one, and considering that he needed rest, the medication might not have an immediate effect.

So, it was only during the night that Bo Xiyun thought of going to see if Yi Zhongshen was sleeping well and if there was anything he could do to help.

However, as soon as Bo Xiyun stepped out of the door, he ran into Gu Sheng who had just returned.

"Hey, are you looking for your senior?" Gu Sheng asked.

Gu Sheng said, "I just saw his car wasn't here, so he's probably busy outside."

Bo Xiyun was surprised, "This late?"

"Yeah, his family has a project in Q city," Gu Sheng explained, "It seems like he was called over to take charge this afternoon. Zhongshen must be busy for a while."

Gu Sheng had only confirmed today that Yi Zhongshen was indeed occupied with his family's project.

He was amazed.

Was this how contemporary students spent their holidays?

Gu Sheng was busy with his own side job, but compared to Yi Zhongshen, he felt completely insignificant and lazy.

He truly deserved the title of a young master.

The young boy seemed a bit worried, so Gu Sheng reassured him, "But he left in the evening, so he should be back tonight. I don't think he'll stay out all night."

Upon hearing this, Bo Xiyun furrowed his brows, "Senior didn't leave in the evening."

Gu Sheng asked, "Huh?"

"He went to school in the evening and was there until the end of the evening self-study," Bo Xiyun explained.

Bo Xiyun and Yi Zhongshen sat together as desk mates for the whole evening, so it was unlikely that he remembered incorrectly.

"When we returned to the hotel just now, he was the one who brought me back," Bo Xiyun said, realizing something, "Did he stay back because he wanted to make sure I got back safely?"

"It's possible. The weather has been so cold these days, and since you finish self-study late, there's a chance you could catch a cold if you walked back alone," Gu Sheng replied, not seeing anything unusual about it.

"If it were me, I would have done the same, making sure you got back safely," Gu Sheng added.

Fortunately, Bo Xiyun's condition had improved these days, and he didn't experience much motion sickness anymore. After thanking Gu Sheng, he went back to his room.

However, once Gu Sheng tried to use his room card to open the door, he suddenly thought of something.

Why didn't Zhongshen have one of his bodyguard escort him back?

At the very least, he could have taken a taxi, right?

The confusion of young master Gu was something Bo Xiyun would never know about.

Back in his room, Bo Xiyun completed the remaining half of the competition questions. When he picked up his phone again, he saw several unread messages.

The message was from Xu Xinyi.

[In the evening, in the corridor, were you and Bai Xiu chatting?]

Xu Xinyi indeed heard their conversation.

[Is it about Yi Shen (Yi Zhongshen)? Does Bai Xiu also think that Yi Shen likes you?]

Bo Xiyun didn't deny it to Xu Xinyi.

[En.]

As soon as the response appeared in the chat box, Xu Xinyi sent a voice message directly.

"Xiyun, can you pick up the call?"

After receiving a positive answer, Xu Xinyi continued, "See, I told you so. Even our friends think he likes you."

Bo Xiyun chuckled, feeling a bit helpless.

Before he could say anything, Xu Xinyi asked again, "By the way, did you mention that Yi Shen has reasons not to like you?"

"What does that mean? Why did you say that?" Xu Xinyi asked in confusion.

"You see, if you could hear my words just now, it means the soundproofing in the teaching building is really bad. So, when we were in the B City competition team, Senior should have heard what I said as well," Bo Xiyun explained.

"Yeah," Xu Xinyi still seemed puzzled, "so what's the point?"

This was the conclusion Bo Xiyun arrived at earlier.

"So, since Senior knows my thoughts and that I might have a one-sided crush," Bo Xiyun explained, "if he really likes me, he wouldn't have this attitude towards me."

Xu Xinyi didn't quite understand, "What attitude are you talking about?"

"Let's just assume," Bo Xiyun said, "if he knows that I have a one-sided crush on him, what should he do?"

After their previous conversation, Bo Xiyun had also looked up information about one-sided crushes.

Although he didn't completely fit the profile, he did share some similarities.

One-sided crushes involve feelings and infatuation. But once the object of their affection shows interest in them, individuals with one-sided crushes tend to become disgusted and repelled, distancing themselves from the other person.

Bo Xiyun might not have developed explicit feelings for anyone, but he did dislike being influenced too much.

If someone truly has the potential to constantly affect his emotions and change his life, then no matter how outstanding or gentle they are, Bo Xiyun feels he would still reject and refuse them.

With this premise in mind, Bo Xiyun patiently analyzed the situation.

"There are probably only two ways to approach this. Either give up on liking him, or adopt actions tailored to the characteristics of a one-sided crush," Bo Xiyun explained.

Xu Xinyi listened with a puzzled expression, "...Huh? Actions tailored to the characteristics?"

"Since individuals with one-sided crushes don't like it when the other person shows interest, the pursuer should hide their feelings, deliberately maintaining some distance from the one-sided crush," Bo Xiyun said.

"At least appear indifferent on the surface, so they won't get fed up and will continue to like you," he added.

"You mean..." Xu Xinyi hesitated and asked, "deliberately baiting them?"

"Seems like it," Bo Xiyun replied.

"Otherwise, if the pursuer shows their affection, wouldn't that just drive the one-sided crush away?" he explained.

Xu Xinyi murmured, "It sounds reasonable..."

"But you see, during our time in B City, Senior already knew that I have a one-sided crush on him. However, during these days at the winter camp, he hasn't suddenly changed his attitude towards me, nor has he deliberately ignored me or baited me," Bo Xiyun analyzed his conclusion with sound reasoning.

"That's why I said he doesn't like me."

If Senior really liked Bo Xiyun and wanted to pursue him, he wouldn't be treating him so kindly. He wouldn't be risking the possibility of his feelings being discovered, and he wouldn't be worried about being distanced from him at any moment.

"You..." It was only now that Xu Xinyi fully realized.

Bo Xiyun was surprisingly rational and composed. He was analyzing himself as if he were an object of strategy.

Xu Xinyi wanted to say something, but after contemplating for a while, she found that she couldn't refute Bo Xiyun's reasoning.

What Bo Xiyun said when he rejected Senior earlier was not wrong.

He truly had difficulty accepting love and affection from others.

They continued chatting for a while, covering various topics.

Finally, Xu Xinyi said one last thing.

"Xiyun, throughout this whole process, you've been analyzing things from a rational perspective," Xu Xinyi pointed out. It was as if Bo Xiyun had made an excellent strategy guide for himself.

He realized that Yi Zhongshen didn't approach it in the same way, which led him to believe that Yi Zhongshen might not be trying to pursue him.

"But liking someone can be divided into two parts: the rational aspect and the emotional aspect," Xu Xinyi continued, not hesitating to use herself as an example. "For example, after you rejected me, I retracted my feelings for you. That's the rational part, as I understood your situation. However, the emotional part is that I still think you're great and admire your outstanding academic achievements."

Xu Xinyi was analyzing the situation as well. "So, even if someone rationally understands they can't pursue you, their emotional liking might still exceed their rational thinking..."

As she spoke, Xu Xinyi suddenly stopped and felt that what she said was not entirely accurate.

"But, it seems like Yi Zhongshen senior isn't very emotional either," she sighed in frustration, running her hand through her hair. "Why do I feel like I'm inadvertently confirming your analysis?"

Bo Xiyun chuckled and timely accepted Xu Xinyi's words.

"Senior is indeed a great person," he acknowledged. He had always been aware of that fact, which was why he didn't want Senior to be bothered by any rumors.

"Our relationship is just that of senior and junior classmates," Bo Xiyun clarified.

Xu Xinyi sighed and was convincingly persuaded to accept the explanation.

After hanging up the phone, Bo Xiyun sent a message to Yi Zhongshen.

As expected, Yi Zhongshen was still outside and seemed to be busy. He didn't know when he would be back. He just reminded Bo Xiyun to rest early.

Bo Xiyun was a bit worried, but fortunately, tomorrow morning, he could accompany Senior to the hospital for a follow-up.

There was no physics class the next morning, and Bo Xiyun had already taken a leave of absence in advance. He wanted to see how Senior's treatment was progressing and offer any support he could.

Early in the morning before dawn, Bo Xiyun went to the hotel's gym as usual. After finishing his workout, he took a quick shower. As soon as he stepped out of the gym, he saw a familiar figure waiting for him in the hallway.

A tall and handsome young man stood there, waiting for him under the porch.

Bo Xiyun's footsteps involuntarily paused as he didn't expect Yi Zhongshen to come over.

"...Senior?" he called out, surprised.

In the past two days, because Yi Zhongshen went to the hospital early or was busy with his family's matters, he didn't come to the gym in the morning. Bo Xiyun had been doing his morning exercises alone.

Today, Bo Xiyun had planned to wait a bit after his morning workout until Senior finished his work and then they would go to the hospital together.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he came out, he ran into Senior waiting for him.

The rare morning sunlight of winter filtered through the hotel's glass revolving door, shining on Yi Zhongshen, who always had a cool demeanor, giving him a touch of unusual warmth.

Yi Zhongshen had already noticed him. As their eyes met, a faint smile appeared in Yi Zhongshen's otherwise aloof eyes.

He raised his hand and lightly gestured.

"Ears."

Bo Xiyun blushed again.

Subconsciously, he touched his own earlobe. In truth, he knew that his earlobes must be completely flushed with color.

But he didn't have time to worry about that now. With three quick strides, he walked up to Yi Zhongshen, standing shoulder to shoulder with him.

"Thanks for waiting."

"It wasn't long."

Yi Zhongshen had already extended his hand to help Bo Xiyun adjust the hastily worn collar of his shirt. He said, "I'll be with you tomorrow."

Bo Xiyun's thin lips curved into a gentle smile. "En."

It was only then that Bo Xiyun realized why he had been feeling a bit strange during his workouts these past two days. He hadn't been used to exercising alone anymore.

Since the first time they worked out together, Bo Xiyun had been exercising with Yi Zhongshen, with very few breaks in between.

He had always been accustomed to doing things alone on ordinary days. However, maybe when it came to this particular aspect, he had become accustomed to having one more person around.

After leaving the hotel, they waited for Gu Sheng for a while before going to the hospital together.

(Tn: Here the author wrote Xu Xinyi which I think was an error so I changed it to Gu Sheng based on the situation.)

Once they arrived at the hospital, Bo Xiyun realized that he wasn't the only one there to accompany Yi Zhongshen for the check-up.

He was taken along and also underwent a complete set of examinations. Perhaps due to some VIP service, the check-up process proceeded quickly. When Bo Xiyun came out of the examination room, the doctor was already discussing the results with Yi Zhongshen.

"There's nothing serious, just mild anemia and being underweight. You need to watch your diet and make sure to eat well," the doctor said.

Even Gu Sheng nodded in agreement. "Yes, you need to eat well."

The doctor, who had also seen Yi Zhongshen yesterday, continued, "Some of the indicators are slightly low. You mentioned that the kid needs a lot of sleep every day, right?"

Yi Zhongshen nodded.

The doctor said, "It's likely due to a lack of trace elements. You can take vitamin B complex supplements, and remember to take them regularly."

This surprised Gu Sheng, and he turned to look at Bo Xiyun, who had just returned.

"Do you have trouble sleeping too?"

Bo Xiyun began to respond, but Yi Zhongshen interrupted, saying, "He has difficulty falling asleep."

Gu Sheng looked surprised. "Why can't both of you sleep well?"

Bo Xiyun wanted to say something, but he saw Yi Zhongshen waiting for the doctor to prescribe the medication.

He could only say, "It's just that sometimes it takes a while to fall asleep."

But Bo Xiyun didn't really feel that it was a big issue. He added, "It's not always like this. Two nights ago, after giving Senior a massage, I felt very tired, and I fell asleep shortly after lying down."

"The night of the massage?" Gu Sheng recalled something. "Oh, that night, didn't Zhongshen also fall asleep quickly?"

"Both of you have trouble sleeping alone, but when you're together, it improves..." Gu Sheng suddenly realized something. He clapped his palm and exclaimed, "Then why don't you two sleep together?"

At the table, Yi Zhongshen's figure seemed to tense up for a moment. Bo Xiyun also froze for a moment.

...Sleep together?

Before they could say anything, the doctor turned back and said something, interrupting their thoughts.

"This kind of situation does exist," the doctor explained patiently. "In my years of practice, I have encountered many patients with sleep disorders. Some of them have unique sleep habits, like requiring a specific aroma or a certain type of pillow to fall asleep. There are also some adults who need to hold a doll for a long time to sleep. These cases are quite common and not weird at all"

(Tn: i improvised it a bit)

The doctor suggested, "If that's the case, you two can try sleeping together and see if it improves your sleep."

Gu Sheng nodded in agreement, "Yes, maybe Zhongshen also has a unique habit, and he can only sleep well when he's with his junior."

Bo Xiyun felt a little embarrassed but nodded in agreement. "Alright, we can try it."

Yi Zhongshen, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke up. "En, we can give it a try."

The doctor smiled and said, "Great, give it a try for a few nights and see if it helps. If you have any other concerns, feel free to come back and see me."

After leaving the hospital, Bo Xiyun and Yi Zhongshen exchanged glances, both feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement about the idea of sleeping together to improve their sleep. They decided to give it a try and see if it would make a difference.
