Chapter 2 - The Void

*Blink blink*

"H-Huh?" I say, completely disoriented. Looking around, I see nothing. Yep… nothing. In all directions… as far as I can see… nothing. White. Or is is grey? I can't really tell. Up? Nothing. Left and right? Nothing. Down? Nothing. Wait…

I look down at my feet… or rather, where my feet should be, and see… nothing? I look over my entire body, and there's nothing.

"WHERE IS MY BODY?!?!" I yell, hearing my words echo back at me.

"Shhhhh, shhhh, quiet down, would you?" something says in my ear, soothingly. It sounds like a middle-aged man, maybe 30 or 40 years old. I look around in search of the voice, but again, there's nothing. Except, now there's a goat. At least I think it's a goat, I never really went to farms or anything…

"A… goat?" I question, thinking aloud.

"Baaah!" The goat replies. We keep eye contact for a short eternity, as I once again hear the voice.

"All of these questions shall be answered in due time, young one. Or, perhaps they will not be. What thou dost choose from here on layeth completely upon thy own decision," the voice says.

"…where am I? Am I dead? Are you God? IS GOD A TALKING GOAT????" I ask frantically.

"No, that is my dearest companion, Carmilla. Payest unto her no mind, she merely serves to liven up the place a bit. It can become quite dreadfully boring in this realm at times. But to thine other questions: as I have said, they may or may not be answered in due time, young one."

As I hear this, I see a cloud of mist begin to form in front of me. It floats closer, and for a second I swear I can see… people? Walking, talking, and doing things in the mist, like some kind of movie has been projected and is playing on it. As I attempt to look closer though, the mist slowly condenses, forming the shape of a person.

"As thou art lacking the higher understanding necessary to perceive this place, I shall assume a form more conceivable to thy mind." With these words, the form slowly begins to fill with color and shape. I watch and see it taking the form of a chiseled man, bearing a resemblance to the typical 'Adonis'. As it fills in though, I look down, and quickly cover my face with my hands in embarrassment.

"P-Put some clothes on, you can't just… do that!" I feel my ears begin to heat up, and then remember that I probably don't have ears. Or hands. Wait, how am I covering my face?

"In truth, I am fully capable of doing what I have just done, as I have just demonstrated. My power is far beyond thy comprehension, young one. But, look not away, for what I speak unto thee is of great importance to thy future."

I feel my chin slowly being lifted, I uncover my face, and I blush again at the being standing so close. He stares deep into my eyes, and soon enough, he resumes his speech.

"Thou hast ceased to live. That is not to say thou art perished however, for the spirit still lingers, now caught in this realm. Thusly, as thou hast not lived completely, I offer unto thee another chance at life. What sayest thou?" The Adonis smiles down at me, waiting for my answer.

Thinking back on my life, he's right. I never really lived. Yeah, I was alive for 18 years, but I never did anything with that time. I went to school, got ignored by my parents (though to be honest, I ignored them too), ate, and slept. The only hobbies I ever really had were playing video games and chatting with people halfway around the globe.

After a few moments pass by, I meet his gaze, and nod firmly.

"I accept!"

"Then, fare thee well young one, and may thy will be done…" As he smiles down at me, his body disintegrates back into the mist.

"H-Hey! Wait up a minute! What's gonna happen to me?! Where am I headed?!? Who are you?!?!" I desperately yell more and more questions, but the mist starts to swirl around me. Faster and faster it spins, making me feel like I'm standing in the middle of a hurricane, until my vision becomes darker and darker… and then it begins to reverse? I look on in confusion, as the being reforms before me. And speaks again.

"Ah, pardon me, but I have nearly forgotten something quite important. There is one thing I must bestow unto thee; thou shalt receive a token of my powers. Nothing significant, merely a blessing to assist in the path ahead of—"

"WAIIIIIT!" I yell as loud as I can, interrupting him.

The Adonis' smile turns to a look of annoyance, asking me, "Yes, young one?" He crosses his arms impatiently. "Why must thou interrupt mineself to brazenly?"

I gaze up at him apologetically. "Oh, um… sorry… but I need to know what you mean! I'm kinda dumb, so it would help a lot if you explain this a bit. Please."

The Adonis puts his hand to his face, sighing heavily before speaking. "Thou art dead. I have given thou another chance at living, alongside a small blessing. What part of this is not understood?" He looks at me expectantly.

"W-Well… where am I going? Back to my old life? Or like.. somewhere else? Am I keeping my old body? What kind of blessing are you giving me? Because I have a few things I'd ask for, personally…" I say sheepishly, followed with a nervous chuckle.

"I suppose it would not upset the others too much to keep them waiting a bit longer. Very well, to keep this short I will speak to you plainly," he responds tiredly, and a large holographic menu appears next to us. He motions to an image of my body laying in the street before speaking. "This is the old body, in the old life. Thou hast been removed from it. It is dead. Thy spirit layeth here now, beside me. Thy spirit must receiveth a new body, and a new world. Dost thou understand?"

I nod carefully, before asking him the question on my mind. "I think I understand, but… can I choose? Like in Elder Scrolls Online you can—"

"Yes! Fine! I will disperse with the corpus I hath so meticulously designed for thou, and thine own hands will make thy new body! Art thou satisfied now?" He asks, quite irritated at this point.

I nod my head eagerly in response, and the hologram changes to a loading screen.

"Then I will leave you to your own devices, alongside my blessing," he says, before once again disintegrating into mist. "By the heavens… why did we ever let earthlings reincarnate?"

With this last remark, the being disappears, alongside the goat, leaving me alone in the void with the loading screen. Soon enough, it changes.

**PLEASE DESIGN A CORPUS**

I look upon the words in wonder, as I ponder what kind of body I might want. Below the words is a mirror… or at least I thought it was, until the reflection began to spin. Wait, reflection? I look down to see that I once again have a body, and jump around excitedly. Eventually, I remember what I was doing, and begin to focus on the reflection. As I focus on the image I have in mind, the body — my body — begins to change.

Surprisingly, despite being able to feel my bones, skin, and organs changing, it doesn't hurt. It just feels… weird. My body becomes smaller, and more lithe, but with a lean muscle look to it. My face becomes softer, and my eyes a bit bigger. I look closely at the face, changing it ever so slightly until I'm satisfied. I decide to give myself heterochromia, because why not? I close my eyelids, and decide to have my right eye be green, and the left one violet. Opening them, I feel quite happy, before moving onto the hair. I try a few different styles and colors, before deciding on shoulder-length dirty blond hair — the same as I had in my previous life.

I step back from the holographic display, and jump around a bit to get a feel for it. I feel quite happy with it, but sense something wrong with it. The body is quite dainty, and the face is quite boyish, giving the whole thing a solid twink feel to it. I scratch the back of my head, trying to figure out what's wrong, before realizing. My hand brushes all over my head, and I discover I'm missing ears, causing me to burst out in a laugh.

"Of course I would forget something as important as that. Though… hmm…" I tap my chin in thought for a moment, as a sly grin spreads across my face, and I look back to the display. Slowly but surely, two fuzzy triangles begin to form atop my head. Sharing the same color as my hair, they look quite natural, and I give them a wiggle. I giggle excitedly, as I sprout a tail in the same fashion, letting it flick about for a bit in awe.

"Yes! Nya nya!" I shout excitedly, as I quickly finalize the changes to my body. As I do so however, my body begins to glow brightly. "E-Eh?"

**CORPUS FINALIZED. HAVE A NICE DAY.**

As I look up at the words fearfully, the glow overtakes my vision, and I close my eyes.
