Chapter 33 - What is this?!

Before Endyr's eyes, a screen that only he could see appeared, glowing a slight blue yet casting no light on the surrounding area. Endyr had figured out how exactly it was possible in his past life, but that knowledge seemed to have been lost in his reincarnation. While remembering it was on his to-do list, right now he couldn't care less.

[Is Host inquiring about the encounter they just had?]

"Of course I fucking am! What else is here to ask about?!" Endyr snapped, knowing full well the System was simply being coy. Despite being renowned as a purely impartial and mechanical entity in the Main Universe, the System seemed to have gained a deeper sense of self in this one. Whether or nor this was a good thing remained to be seen.

[It is heavily recommended Host checks their full Status for the answer they seek]

Endyr squinted his eyes, gritting his teeth at the avoidance. "Just tell me yourself dammit!" he swore. The System stayed silent however, forcing him to do as it advised. "Status" he called out.

Endyr furrowed his brows as he read his Status. Apart from the increase in Intelligence and strange change to his Luck, the only other difference was the Title "Student of Sky Cross Academy." Yet no matter how hard he looked, he saw nothing that explained the feeling that black-haired boy gave him. "What am I looking for here System?" he growled.

[Try and activate the Split Double Skill] was the simple response he got in return. Endyr hesitated to do so however, suddenly filled with subtle tension. He felt that he was on the cusp of a change, though whether it was enlightenment or corruption remained unclear. Forcing down his feelings of discontent, Endyr did as instructed.

"Split Double."

At once, the surrounding darkness rushed towards him. Endyr felt a searing pain grip him, akin to the one he felt when facing those three assassins in Fellise. He fell to his knees, struggling to stay conscious. He managed long enough to take notice of his bulging shadow, along with the feeling of 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 pulling away deep inside him. Then his fortitude gave out and he collapse, his eyes closing slowly....

With a gasp, Endyr shot up and looked around franticly. He felt... 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 somehow. Emptier, like he was lacking something non-vital but still of importance. He looked around sluggishly, a new and strange weight affecting his chest. He was still in the ally, and the sun had only moved a slight bit, indicating he had only be unconscious for several minutes. As his gaze moved down however, Endyr froze. Laying in front of him...was himself. Endyr staggered back and raised a hand to his head, brushing against his hair and causing white locks to fall in front of his eyes.

'Wait a minute, white hair?' Endyr shot his eyes open wider and pulled the locks down so he could see them better. His hair, that should be blood red, had become a silvery-white instead. He then took notice of then hand holding the hair. The skin had become daintier and the fingers longer, seeming more effeminate than before. Abandoning everything else, Endyr rushed to his body and checked it desperately.

'Whew, I'm still breathing. But what the hell is going on here?! I'm suddenly in a different body, with the last thing I remember being told to...use...Split Double...' Endyr's thoughts slowed as he realized what was happening. Standing up, he reached out to the instigator of this whole scenario. "What is happening System" he asked angrily. Yet his response came in a form he was not expecting.

Endyr's eyes nearly popped out of his head as he read his Status. Practically everything had changed from his bio to his Skills and Level, or rather, his Tier. From a mere Mortal, Endyr had somehow become...a Grandmaster. Someone on par with Jace. at least in terms of overall status. All these changes led Endyr to a sole conclusion, one he struggled to come to terms with regardless.

'Split Double is meant to create a clone of the user, and can also the same Skills as them. Yet no matter how I look at it, I have become someone entirely different, instead of a simple clone. What the hell happened? Is there a problem with the Skill itself, or is it because of my uniqueness as a former Denizen of Infinity?'

Endyr decided to slow down and try and break down each part of his new Status. The System was still staying quiet, so it seemed to be the only way he would get any answers. First, his new name: Endyr had the added surname of "Syndrine", which he had no idea on how he acquired. Nonetheless, it only seemed to be flavour text and of little importance.

Secondly, his new Species: Endyr had somehow reverted back to a Denizen of Infinity, though the System claimed he was "fragmented" in some way. This seemed important, and Endyr felt it confirmed his second guess about why he gained a new body. And while the System claimed he was once again a Denizen of Infinity, he felt no different from when he was human.

Thirdly, his Rank and Tier had changed. Endyr seemed to have unlocked his EX Rank, and directly skipped the rest of the Mortal Tier and the entirety of the Master Tier. This was undeniably a positive thing, but Endyr was queasy about how exactly this came to be. Receiving such a massive power boost had to come with equal repercussions, and Endyr was awaiting them to reveal themselves with trepidation.

Forth: He had lost some Titles and gained new ones. The two Titles that pointed out his uniqueness as a human remained, but the rest were foreign to Endyr. He looked them over before asking the System about them. Thankfully, the System's silent treatment didn't extend to that function, so Endyr could definitely find something out. He decided to start with the "Abomination" Title first, since that's what the black-haired boy had called him.

[Abomination: You are an abomination to all that Orvonia stands for. Every creature, good or bad, will unite to destroy you in your entirety. Grants {Mortal Enemy} relationship with all organizations on Orvonia.]

Endyr's heart sped up as he finished reading, feeling as if a chasm had opened up below his feet and plunged him into darkness. His titles of "Irregular" and "Outlier of Regulation" had implied the powerhouses of Orvonia would try to control or kill him, but this...this was far worse. The whole planet had literally become his enemy, a mortal one that would stop at nothing to erase him. Endyr tried to pull himself together and moved on to the next Title.

[Split Doubler: You are created from the Skill {Split Double}]

Thankfully, this one was incredibly simple, and likely served more as a notice than an actual Title. In fact, Endyr felt that his Species would have been Split Doubler, if not for his uniqueness as a Denizen. Instead, it seemed to have appeared as a Title, though it served the same purpose there. Next, he looked towards a Title that was bound to be more complicated than its predecessor.

[Vessel of Infinity: You are the vessel of Infinity within the Infinite Universe. You serve as the anchor and gateway between both Planes, allowing you to draw on the power of your homeland.]

'Just as I presumed, this Title had a connection to Infinity. It claims it allows me to draw on the power of Infinity, which is probably why I can use Archaic Dialect and Mana Manipulation in this form...but what exactly does being a "gateway" entail?'

[Seed of Apocalypse: You are the herald of doom, the dawning of disaster, the outrider of collapse. As you bloom, so does the end of times draw near.]

Endyr could not contain a scoff upon reading the Title description. While the implication were just as bad, if not worse, than the "Abomination" Title, the way the System phrased it was just...too chuunibyou. Did it even know how it sounded to others, or did it simply not care? Endyr guessed he would never know, since the System was still refusing to speak up despite being so obviously taunted.

As he expected, the remaining two titles were the exact same as before, though Endyr felt they were redundant now, since "Abomination" made sure everyone on Orvonia wanted a piece of him. Endyr had gained a lot of new information, but nothing that definitely answered his original question: how did he gain an entirely different body rather than a simple clone? Thankfully, the System finally felt like it had blue-balled Endyr enough, as it spoke up suddenly.

[The Skill {Split Double} operates by taking a portion of the user's soul and forming a new body for it. Naturally, this requires a sufficiently large soul to work, which is why the Skill is classified at {C Rank}. However, Host attempted to use the Skill while only at {D Rank}, causing a lack of sustenance for the Skill to found itself on.]

[Left with no other choice, the Skill forcefully absorbed the souls of anything near it, which happened to be the three entities that attacked you at the time. It was only after devouring a fourth entity that the Skill had enough material to properly work. The last entity devoured was called {Selene Syndrine} and was also the strongest, making her genetic data the cornerstone of Host's current body. Host thus takes after her.]

[Now, this was not the only issue that occurred when the Skill was activated. {Split Double} has a unique function that only activates under certain conditions: the user must possess multiple personalities or separately defined characteristics within themselves. Under normal circumstances, the split personalities would enter the new body rather than the one created by the Skill. In the case of mixed characteristics...well, lets use a half-breed as an example, a Werewolf. Upon using the Skill, either the Beast or the Human side would be separated and forced into the new body.]

[This is where it went wrong for Host. {Split Double} attempted to separated Host's Human and Denizen selves, but only partially succeeded. That is why Host is labelled as "fractured" in their Status. After all, Host only contained a portion of their Denizen self to begin with. Trying to further divide an already small portion would leave both pieces sorely lacking. To fill in the gaps, the System was forced to buy several new Skills and grant new Titles, thus expanding Host's soul and making it fit the required quota for Skill activation. These actions have depleted Host's Privileges but a fair amount, by the way.]

The lengthy explanation from the System left Endyr stunned momentarily. He had no idea that a "mere" C Rank Skill had so many intricacies involved. He had just assumed everything was taken care of without a hitch by the System. After all, it constantly boasted about being omnipotent, so why would it struggle here? But it seems Endyr either overestimated the System, or the Laws of this Infinite Universe were much more profound. Either one did not bode well for him however.

Having his question answered and already digested his new Status information, Endyr finally caught on to one last detail, something which he had subconsciously been ignoring since he woke up. Or should I say, since "she" woke up? Looking down, Endyr noticed three things: one, there was no clothes on his body. Two, his chest was more protruding than he last remembered and finally...his male genitals was gone, and a female's replaced it.

"System...WHAT THE FUCK?!"
